Exiting first within the top five is "Gone Before You Met Me" which also takes our fourth top-ranking song this time from kw9461. Despite a pair of bottom two rankings, this was a consistent top five contender for its entire run. It picked up a handful of top five rankings including a top two from .indulgecountry along with a trio of top threes. This was our third most polarizing song of the rankdown which is likely due in part to the two bottom fives I previously mentioned along with two other bottom fives. This has always been one of my favorite songs from the album and should they have released a third single I think this would've made for a great choice. The production on this is great and sounds like something that would fit on about any other one of his albums.

Up next is a song that was actually predicted to be a top three contender, but alas it wasn't quite able to overcome the strength of the songs ahead of it.

You can't blend whiskey with a good woman's love They don't go together, love's already hard enough You think you can handle, how it feels or what it does
You can't change lonely with a bottle of wine It might ease the heartache for one short easy time In the end you have to face what's hiding in your mind 4. “Angels and Alcohol” Track: #3 Songwriters: Alan Jackson
Total: 60 Average: 4.29 Std Dev: 1.77 (LOWEST!) {Songs Remaining}Jim and Jack and Hank The One You’re Waiting On You Can Always Come Home

The title track exits just before the top three and with it Cody Wants Out... becomes our fifth participant to lose their top-ranking song. This was well-received amongst the group with only a handful of participants even putting this outside of their top five. Speaking of, this accumulated nine top five rankings overall including the aforementioned top-ranking as well as a top two from bboat11. While this did manage to briefly sneak into the top three early on, it settled comfortably inside the top four where it remained for the rest of its run. Overall this ended up coming in as the least polarizing song of the rankdown.

"Mexico, Tequila and Me" was ROBBED. </3 SERIOUSLY!!! That is by far the most "Alan"-sounding album track on this album. It has the same signature energy that makes so many of his best songs so great. Thank God it made the album tracks rankdown, but for it to nearly miss is unacceptable...

It's time for the final reveal! And since we have a tie, I've decided to just do one big grand finale. Speaking of that tie, given the circumstances *cough* following the 2020 country rankdown I was beginning to second-guess how to break this one lol. Making the decision all that much harder is that both of the songs have three #1s apiece and both were #1 contenders at some point during the rankdown. It's at this juncture that I opted to use the top two rankings as the tie-breaker, but even still it's so close that it could've gone either way.
Who is ready for the grand finale?!

And there we have it folks! Both "Jim and Jack and Hank" and "You Can Always Come Home" tied for second place with both having three participants placing this at the top of their list. In this instance, I decided to use the top twos as the tie-breaker giving the edge to the latter as it had three compared to two from the former. I'm sure quite a few of you thought this would come down to the albums two singles and alas it was an album track that put up a good fight. "You Can Always Come Home" likely wasn't on some of y'all's radar as being so well-liked! Considering that I put this at the top of my list I'm glad to see that quite a few of you enjoy it just as much. Both Kanenrá:ke and Kris Kringle joined me at the top followed by castleoblivion26, ClevelandRox, and Cody Wants Out... in the top two. There were only three non-top five rankings which included a questionable bottom two from bboat11. Speaking for myself, it was a flip of a coin as to wether I'd put that or "The One You're Waiting On" at the top so I'm quite pleased with the end result. Three of you get a perfect ranking including .indulgecountry, gardyfan, and Troublemaker followed by a pair of top twos from myself, kw9461, and Kris Kringle. This also only had three non-top five rankings making this the second least polarizing song of the rankdown.

OH look, he broke the tie in favor of his own #1!!!! It would be really really hilarious if we brought this fact up and made jokes about it incessantly for the next several weeks...

I'm going to hold off on announcing the next two albums in the series as I want to allow some of you the chance to catch up. It's been rather quiet on Pulse today and I don't want to close this set out quite yet which will allow some of y'all that opportunity to do so.
With that said, look for the announcement of the next two albums sometime later this week!

Regarding the top 3:
"Jim And Jack And Hank" has such a fun energy to it. The sarcastic, bitter nature of the narrator is low-key hilarious (especially when he calls his dad and you realize he also has the exact same sarcastic, bitter energy about him 😂 ). It all seemed a little generic to me at first when it came out a few years ago, but as time has gone by, I have really come to enjoy this one more and more.
"You Can Always Come Home" is just.....not that great of a song imo. It is good, but it is very generic and forgettable. Aside from having a soft opening leading to a more uptempo pace, it doesn't do anything that would make it more memorable than something like "Angels and Alcohol" or "Mexico, Tequila and Me". I have no problems seeing it in the album tracks rankdown, but I would have definitely preferred to see the title track be the top album track.
"The One You're Waiting On" took the longest time to grow on me back in the day. Back when it was released as a single, I listened to it probably fifty times before I ever remembered what it sounded like... But once it got its hooks in me, I have never been able to shake it! This is a fantastic song with a beautiful premise and a compassionate vocal from Alan. I love that it's basically a more tender version of George's "A Heart Like Hers" (which is an even better song than this one imo, but I appreciate the differences in perspective that they offer).

Fantastic! The top 3 went in the exact correct order! "Jim and Jack and Hank" is catchy and the lyrics are fun, but it doesn't hold a candle to "You Can Always Come Home," and ESPECIALLY "The One You're Waiting On" which was 100% the only option to win this rankdown. What an exceptionally stunning song that is. Very happy with how this rankdown went!

I bet I'm always dead last or close to it especially with 90s albums ( Angels and Alcohol is a 2015 album but still)

I'm kind of surprised it was so close, but the right song definitely won. "The One You're Waiting On" is a slow burner to be sure, but is such a great song once you give in to it. Alan's vocals were certainly more mature and weathered on this album, but that was absolutely perfect for this song and his delivery is fantastic.
I was hoping "Gone Before You Met Me" might do a little better, but at least it's moving on the album cut rankdown. That's been my favorite since I first listened to the album. Strong melody, spot on production, and clever lyrics that a tell a story in a cool way. Radio was clearly ready to move on from Alan at this point, but it's the only song on the album that feels like a real missed opportunity at radio.

"You Can Always Come Home" was originally slated to be the 3rd single and I don't quite know why it wasn't released but I loooove it. It's just a fantastic song that feels so comforting...that #9 rank for it was questionable lol
"The One You're Waiting On" is great as well even if it was my #5, Alan recording songs from Adam is always a winning combo and I'm hoping if we ever get another album it's full of them!
"Jim And Jack And Hank" has just the perfect vocal delivery to pull off the humour of the song. I feel like if they didn't nail that it would come off too silly.
Can't wait to see what the next set is!!
