Sorry lol...my neighbor came knocking on my door needing some assistance with something just as I had posted that. Anyways, “A Little Bluer Than That” is the first album track to bow out in the top 5 which still leaves two singles as well as two more album tracks. While it might've started off outside of the top 5, it quickly found its way into the top 3 where it remained a contender as such up until about the middle part of its run. Even still, it stayed the course and remained inside the top 5 up until the very end. Seven participants in all ranked this somewhere within that range which included a #1 ranking from Kanenrá:ke who actually becomes the first participant to lose their top-ranked song.

Much to the delight of .indulgecountry, “Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning)” bows out next which included both his last place ranking as well as George Strait Junkie's. While this would only dip out of the top 5 once over the course of its run, it never managed to make it any higher than the top 3 even though it accumulated NINE rankings all within the top 3 including a trio of #1s from Cody Wants Out..., castleoblivion26, and Kris Kringle. Given some of the comments in the thread, however, it probably doesn't come as a surprise that this ended up being the most polarizing song from the album.

I should have heard it coming But I chose to pretend I should have recognizes that sound, way back then But I just wouldn't listen Didn't want to all those years Now the truth is ringing clearly, In my ears 3. “The Sounds” Track: #5 Songwriters: Alan Jackson Total: 52 Average: 4.33 Std Dev: 2.02 (3rd Lowest) {Songs Remaining} Designated Drinker Drive (For Daddy Gene)

Not only was “The Sounds” a top 5 contender for the entirety of its run, but this is the first song thus far in which everyone placed somewhere within their top 8. That in turn led this to be our third least polarizing song from the album which saw it pick up eight top 5 rankings of which included .indulgecountry's #1. I just as easily could've put this in my top 3 as well as it's one of my go-to tracks from the album. I always feel compelled to put this song whenever I do revisit the album and I think most of us would agree that it should've been a single. In fact, as good as this album they easily could've released five singles. Had they done so, I personally would've left "Work in Progress" as an album track and opted to release both this and "Designated Drinker". Speaking of, we've reached the top 2!

There was very little in the way of competition when it came to the top 2 as both "Designated Drinker" and "Drive" held onto both of those positions for the entire rankdown. Given that "Drive" landed in the top 5 of Alan's artist rankdown, it shouldn't come as a surprise that it steamrolled the rest of the album and held onto the #1 position for all but one brief moment. That little hiccup came along from George Strait Junkie's bottom 4 ranking which actually was also the only one not to come from within the top 3. Five participants in all score a perfect ranking including myself, gardyfan, someguy, 🌺CountryLineDancer, and kw9461! "Designated Drinker" has proven itself to be a Pulse favorite and I think most of us would agree that it should've been a single. I'm not sure if it was ever considered for one, but it sure seemed that way and I have little doubt that it would've been a hit had they done so. Radio even seemed to be giving it a bit of a push at the time as well as it managed to almost make the top 40 on the country charts from unsolicited airplay. This managed to pick up almost as many top 5 rankings as our winner with both George Strait Junkie and bboat11 placing it as their #1 song.

Happy with this result overall. Wish “Once in a Lifetime Love” did better, and not sure how Work In Progress escaped the bottom spot, but the top 2 was solid, and the right one won.

And just like that, we're down to our final album in the series which is Alan's most recent release Where Have You Gone. I'll be opening that up for submissions here sometime later on this week, but in the mean time you're more than welcome to get a head start (especially considering that it's more like a double album lol!). Until then, I'd like to thank all of the the participants and those that were following along behind the curtain as well. All in all, we'll have this series wrapped up in what looks like a year and a half which isn't too shabby!
Thanks again and until next time!

Sad that "The Sounds" missed top 2, but I didn't expect it to get past the George Strait duet anyway. The top 3 are all top-tier songs and I'm glad that none of them had to suffer the injustice of that treacly 9/11 song beating them. Being reminded of that lyric about not knowing the difference between Iraq and Iran posted in the reveal just gave me a dry heave.

Released last year on May 14, 2021, Where Have You Gone is Alan's twenty-first studio album and was his first new studio album in over five years. Also, this is Jackson's fourth album on his own Alan's Country Records in a joint venture with EMI Nashville. It was produced by Keith Stegall who has produced all but one of his studio albums and also saw the return of many studio musicians who had worked with Alan on his previous albums as well. The album is composed of 21 tracks, 15 of which were solely self-penned by Alan himself.
This will be the final album in the series after which I'll be launching an album tracks rankdown consisting of selected songs from each one of Alan's albums going back to his 1990 debut record, Here in the Real World. The due date for this is will be on Wednesday, May 11th, which is well over a month out and should provide ample amount of time for those that would like to submit for this. That in turn will provide me an opportunity to do the reveals for this just as the album is commemorating its one year anniversary.

Whoops, I slipped, and done missed this entire reveal Overall, this album went just about exactly as I would have expected it to in a perfect world! I love basically every song here, and frankly this entire album could have been in my top 3 on some of his other albums, lol. "Drive" is a perfect winner, as this is one of those quintessential '00s country songs that kinda helps define the entire decade in country music. I sure can relate to that magical feeling of being allowed to drive every once in awhile as a young boy on old gravel roads And there are literally no other songs that exist to capture that feeling! "Designated Drinker" is a big ol' hit that got away, for both George and Alan. If this was able to finish at #2 in George's '00s album tracks rd, I'd be shocked if it's not one to watch for at least the top 5 in Alan's! "Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning)" is amazing, and I am thrilled to see it still make the top 4 despite the fact that it has some loud haters on Pulse. castleoblivion26 summed up my thoughts pretty well when he said that he doesn't know any other songs that captured the feeling of a moment as well as that one did. The thing that makes that song so great is that there is something relatable about it to everybody who was old enough to remember that day. While many patriotic songs in the post-9/11 landscape were angry or preachy, this one did a good job of channeling the pain into a positive statement. "The Sounds" and "A Little Bluer Than That" both struck me as songs that I could easily hear on the radio as well, so I am thrilled to see them sneak into the top 5! "Work In Progress" and "That'd Be Alright" are nowhere near the best songs on the album, although I do enjoy both. Arguments could be made to leave them both as album tracks. "Bring On The Night" has such a great belted chorus! I found the verses a little on the sleepy side, which is why it ended up rather low on my list, but that song is still so good!! Would have easily been in my top 5 on several of his albums. "I Slipped and Fell In Love" is fun, but just feels like the one song on this album that the majority of people would like but not love. Like, even if you like it, it's probably not your favorite. Which is enough to relegate it to last place here, even though it isn't even remotely bad or deserving. That story for "First Love" is really cool! I find the song to be rather clever overall. The lyrics and melody are almost deceptively simple, until you catch on to the joke and realize just how clever the song is!

It's time for our first update of the last album in the series! We currently have two participants on board (including myself) and honestly our lists couldn't be more different from one another, so I'm expecting the end results for the album to be a bit all over the place. Anyways, y'all still have plenty of time to work on this as it isn't due until Wednesday, May 11th, giving y'all FOUR MORE WEEKS. With that said, don't put this one off until the very last minute as it's more or less a double album! Participants for Where Have You Gone: 1. tim2. Darkest Hour

I'm so sorry for slipping and just disappearing off the face of the country rankdown earth not long into this album series; it's certainly a regret as Alan Jackson is just one of the greats. I'll make sure to submit for this final album in the series! :)

Any chance this is getting extended? I will see what I can do, but another week would be great. While I was hoping to have this wrapped up by next week, I'm more than happy to extend this out a bit if means a few of more of y'all will jump on board. I'm heading back home to Nebraska next week, so I can certainly adjust the due date if necessary. I'll post another update here in a day or two :).
