She looked me in the eye and said it's over I can't take this heartache anymore She said don't tell me lies and try to please me I've heard it all so many times before
And I took her by the arm and said don't leave me There's nothin' in this world I wouldn't do Just give me time I'll be the man you've needed She said I wish that I could take that for the truth

"Love's Got a Hold On You" out before "Someday"?

As correctly predicted by bboat11, "Someday" bows out as one of the first two songs in the top five. Released in August 1991 as the second single from the album, this would go on to become Alan's third chart topping hit. While no one put this as their top-ranking song, it did garner a pair of top two rankings from Kris Kringle and Troublemaker. This was a very consistent top five contender for its entire run and even briefly snuck into the top three a couple of times. All in all, the majority of the group did place this somewhere within their top five and only received four rankings outside of that. Interesting enough, this was actually the first single from the album to bow out in Alan's artist rankdown as "Love's Got a Hold On You" made it just a few spots shy of the Top 30 there.

Oookay so as a kid I kinda loved "Love's Got a Hold On You" but now it's one of his few singles I'd skip in favor of his better songs. Don't hate it though, just would rather spend my time listening to other songs of his.
"Someday" is maybe not his most memorable song, but I always loved the hook. As someone who lived through relationships where I was always promised "Someday" as well it really hits home.

Released in December 1991 as the third single from the album, "Dallas" went on to become Alan's fourth consecutive single to top the chart in early 1992. This was also a very early top contender thanks to the early support it received from Kanenrá:ke 's top two ranking along with what would be one of many top fives from George Strait Junkie . This was very much a consistent top three contender for its entire run and only dipped outside of that once as it received its first of four rankings outside of the top five. And my condolences to both ClevelandRox and 🌺CountryLineDancer as they become our second and third participants to lose their top-ranking song. While I've always loved this song, I've also always had a hard time ranking it whether it be here, Alan's artist rankdown, or even in the year-end rankdown it was featured in. This was definitely one of my favorites of his growing up, but I can only guess because of that it has also become one his more overplayed songs to my ears. For that reason, this is a song that I often never find myself having a strong desire to revisit because it's just as likely that I'll still hear it on the radio at some point again.

Aww figured it wouldn't take out the big two but I always loved this one. It's a silly concept and one I kinda relate to "Ocean Front Property" but Alan and George are able to make these work so so well.
My #1 vs #7 for the final then! I do really like my #7, but as a kid I didn't get it and because Alan was such a huge part of my childhood that nostalgia of not quite getting it still holds it back for me even now.

And a drunk man in a cowboy hat took me by surprise Wearing shiny boots, a Nudi suit, and haunting haunted eyes He said friend it's good to see you, it's nice to know you care Then the wind picked up and he was gone, was he ever really there
Well, I climbed back on that eagle, took one last look around Through red tail lights the shadow moved slow across the ground And off somewhere a midnight train is slowly passing by I could hear that whistle moan, I'm so lonesome I could cry 2. “Midnight in Montgomery” Track: #4 Songwriters: Alan Jackson, Don Sampson Released: April 1992 Billboard Peak Hot Country Songs: #3 Placement in Singles Rankdown: #4 out of 65 Total: 44 Average: 2.75 Std Dev: 1.91 (5th Lowest)
Before you drop that quarter, keep one thing in mind You got a heart-broke hillbilly standing here in line I've been down and lonely ever since she left Before you punch that number could I make one request
I ain't got nothin’ against rock and roll But when your heart's been broken you need a song that's slow There ain't nothin' like a steel guitar to drown a memory Before you spend your money baby play a song for me 1. “Don't Rock the Jukebox” Track: #1 Songwriters: Alan Jackson, Roger Murrah, Keith Stegall Released: April 1991 Billboard Peak Hot Country Songs: #1 Placement in Singles Rankdown: #2 out of 65 Total: 32 Average: 2.00 Std Dev: 1.71 (4th Lowest)

Correct Top 2!!! (and I love being correct with its order too ) Both of these songs are so great and iconic additions to his repertoire. bboat11 how many correct #1s is that for me now? :kii: Thanks for hosting tim and I'll have Thirty Miles West in either later tonight or early tomorrow morning!

In what probably doesn't come as much of a surprise, "Midnight in Montgomery" has to play second fiddle yet again to the title track. It did start out as our initial top-ranking song thanks to the first of four #1s from Kanenrá:ke and remained in that position until it could just no longer compete against the song that has become quite a fierce competitor all on its own (which seems quite reminiscent of Jo Dee's "Bye, Bye" and "I'm Alright"). Despite garnering three additional #1 rankings and six top two rankings, this settled into the top two quite comfortably where it rode out the rest of its time. "Don't Rock the Jukebox" wound up receiving NINE #1 rankings and only garnered one ranking outside of the top five (hello again my old friend Kanenrá:ke!). Because of that, it started out at its lowest ranking position of #7. It quickly vaulted into the top three however and with each additional list it found its way at the top. This song has certainly gone on to become a force to be reckoned with as it not only placed in the top two of Alan’s artist rankdown, but also in the top two in the most recent edition of bboat11’s Revenge of the Best rankdown series.

I'll have Thirty Miles West in either later tonight or early tomorrow morning! Speaking of...it's time for an update! I've received two additional lists for our next album since the last reminder bringing us up to 10 participants. Considering that this is a bit longer album (and only has three singles), I'm going to give y'all just a bit more time for this one. With that in mind, I'm going to set the due date for this Friday, April 9th! Participants for Thirty Miles West:1. Kanenrá:ke2. George Strait Junkie3. tim4. someguy5. castleoblivion266. Cody Wants Out...7. bboat118. gardyfan9. kw946110. 🌺CountryLineDancer

As I said earlier "Don't Rock The Jukebox" may not be my top song here but I fully recognize it's place as an all time classic now ("Midnight In Montgomery" is too to be fair) and have no problems with it winning.
"Midnight In Montgomery" was a song my grandfather had to explain to me what it was about but that lead me into learning about Hank Williams and exploring music from before my time.

Perfect top 2! These two singles are among Alan's very best of all-time. Love both, for very different reasons.

I originally had set the due date for Thirty Miles West for tomorrow, but I'm thinking of taking a little down time from Pulse this weekend and given that I've decided to schedule this out until next week. So, this is your FIVE DAY REMINDER that lists are now due on Tuesday, April 13th. This album is a little bit longer in length compared to what we've done thus far and it only consists of three singles. With that said, this is a firm due date so don't procrastinate on this over the weekend! Participants for Thirty Miles West:1. Kanenrá:ke2. George Strait Junkie3. tim4. someguy5. castleoblivion266. Cody Wants Out...7. bboat118. gardyfan9. kw946110. 🌺CountryLineDancer

Oh good cause I needed more time. Keep reminding me! Well, lucky for you I let this past weekend get away from me without doing reminders as I had originally planned. I also didn't get any new lists in since the previous update, so I'm going to extend this out one last time in hopes that we can at least a few more lists in. I'll go ahead and give y'all until Tuesday, April 20th which makes this your ONE WEEK REMINDER.Participants for Thirty Miles West:1. Kanenrá:ke2. George Strait Junkie3. tim4. someguy5. castleoblivion266. Cody Wants Out...7. bboat118. gardyfan9. kw946110. 🌺CountryLineDancer

There still remain a handful of previous participants ( bboat11 ) that have yet to submit their lists, so if y'all are still interested make use of the time this weekend to complete this as I will not be extending this out any further! Participants for Thirty Miles West:7. bboat11
