Honey chill, its just an opinion I'm not over here shaming people for accessing music via radio or something, its just a casual conversation. Keep it that way, nobody wants the dramatics. Please. Radio shaming and bashing has been a staple for years here. That's cute. But there is absolutely no problem with listening to the radio though I do believe a lot of the best music is not played on radio for one reason or another. Bit the radio is usually designed to provide music for people driving who don't actively seek out music on there own and it has its purpose. I'm not bashing radio, I just think its slightly overvalued on the charts. I'm just sharing my thoughts on the matter, nothing more nothing less. We can end this conversation now to avoid annoying everyone else, thanks!

It's crazy how many weeks I Hope has spent in top ten without ever reaching top 40 on Spotify. It doesn't even have 200 million streams on Spotify. Talk about being lucky! I Hope had 411,423,000 streams in 2020, as Amazon Music is the biggest streaming service for country music. That's still not a lot for a song that has spent 14 weeks in top ten. I am totally fine for it being a top ten success, but the weeks there seem excessive to me.

Most Billboard Hot 100 Top 10s 42, Drake 38, Madonna 34, The Beatles 31, Rihanna 30, Michael Jackson 29, Taylor Swift 28, Mariah Carey 28, Stevie Wonder 27, Janet Jackson 27, Elton John 25, Lil Wayne 25, Elvis Presley 23, Whitney Houston 23, Paul McCartney 23, The Rolling Stones 22, Justin Bieber 22, Eminem So they are all pop music legends - does Bieber really belong in that list? Mnjah, he is more like a product than the musician, so he should be thankful to his manager I guess. I KNOW! My apologies to the Bieber fans here, but I just struggle to see Justin Bieber as a massive star on the level of the artists here. Even the more recent ones like Taylor, Rihanna, and Drake have something magnetic about them, an intriguing musical persona and hit songs that were absolute pop culture moments. Outside of the "Purpose" era, I personally never got that from Bieber. I mean sure, we had the 2009-2010 period, but I think One Direction quickly eclipsed him on that regard - not to mention their music aged much better as well in retrospect. It just feels so weird that Justin Bieber had seven top 10 hits over these 12 months - more than Dua Lipa, The Weeknd, and Roddy Ricch, and that everything he releases is guaranteed to get at least top 20 debut. Does he still carry this much hype? I'm just baffled, really, but hey, good for him - I guess. 🤷♀️

Record low for radio was I Hope with 76.2 million on 10/31, followed by Blinding Lights with 76.8 million the week before.

Record low for radio was I Hope with 76.2 million on 10/31, followed by Blinding Lights with 76.8 million the week before. Thank you. So, record lows last fall, and the current #1 isn't all that much higher. All metrics are fairly low right now. So, the question is whether people aren't digesting music as much, or whether they just don't care much about new music and the metrics are more spread out among a lot of songs. Holiday music and now "drivers license" show you can still get a high streaming total if people want to listen.

Ok but like who is fooling themselves thinking HOLY, Go Crazy, Bang, and I Hope are in the top 10 biggest songs of the country this week Are you delusional or something? You’re accusing those songs of overstaying their welcome while pumping up levitating which should have been dropped by radio when the 2nd update of callouts got even worse a month ago. Holy is more popular than those songs because more people have heard it this week in America, radio is a form of consumption and people are still buying holy more than most songs

Only to those born after 2000. Lol... you can’t be serious. Most his fans were born in the 90’s and grew up with him. Every adult knows who he is because he was the most talked about human being for years when he debut. He was the most googled celebrity for an insane amount of time and is still in the top 5 of that list in 2020. He is literally one of the most famous names on the planet

You make it would like he had 2009 and 2020. at least his total isn't too inflated by album bombs of tracks charting a week or two.

He might be famous to some, and more "in the moment" but he is most certainly more famous than the others on that list. Simply because he was googled more does not make him more famous overall than Stevie Wonder.

Radio and radio listeners are often dismissed here, particularly in favour of streaming. Yet, there have been times when a song does well in one metric out of nowhere and for a brief period of time, but doesn’t have radio support and some question the legitimacy of that hit. I think even if radio tends to be slow to change, we still somewhat rely on it to affirm whether a song is a hit or not.

He is more famous than half the people on that list it’s not that shocking He is more famous than many of them at the moment, but not historically. As has been mentioned before, it's fairly tough to compare eras, though. In some eras it has been easier to collect hits than in others. The 50s and 60s were singles-driven, and artists released music (and popular artists got hits) fairly quickly. The chart rules for much of the timeline of the Hot 100 precluded songs without a commercial release. With that rule being changed and then the advent of digital sales and especially streaming, album tracks can easily chart. In other words I don't think you can use those lists to say one person was more or less popular than another.

@dey I brought up the "Purpose" era here - being the only era where I got the massive, magnetic star aspect from Bieber.
And out of those, only Drake and maybe Swift and Eminem have their totals a bit inflated by album bombs, but they've had massive hits in return (and a much greater cultural impact and influence). I remember reading somewhere that the points obtained by album bomb tracks is pretty minor in statistics like this, but I might be mistaken.

Paul McCartney and the Beatles are still the biggest act of all time. Elvis is an icon who is one of the top-selling artists ever. Michael Jackson is the King of Pop. Madonna has been an icon for four decades. Mariah Carey is Mariah Carey, Queen of Christmas and Destroyer of Charts. Taylor Swift, Drake, and Rihanna are all more famous. I can barely see an argument for Bieber over Janet Jackson or Whitney Houston, with their legendary catalogs and chart achievements Lil Wayne and Stevie Wonder are the only ones who are definitely less famous/successful than Bieber, but their influence (Wayne is reflected in just about every modern rapper, and Stevie Wonder is Stevie Wonder) far outweighs Bieber, though JB still has time. In the current moment, Bieber is probably the largest artist of all because he's the only one releasing new music right now, and FWIW, he deserves to be on that list, but he is not more famous than half of those people.

Infact, I know for a fact drake is not more famous than JB so that's a lie. Drake is a non event outside of America, don't get his hot 100 success twisted for global fame. Go to asia and ask people about drake and jb and way more people will know JB. All the other ones, sure. But there is 0% chance drake is more famous than Justin Bieber lmao. His name is easily escapable outside of America

Mariah, Lil Wayne, and Janet have struggled to have as much success in Europe compared to the US, but that doesn't make them less famous than Bieber, for instance.

I just seriously cant imagine going up to even a 50 year old even in just north America and asking them, do you know who Justin Bieber is? and them saying they don't. I can imagine that happening with drake. Let's be honest here, this has nothing to do with hype or hot 100 success, it's just name recognition. Maybe I was mistaken even talking about fame in a list to do with most top 10's, but now that we're on this subject, you wont find many people who are more famous than Justin Bieber in this world.
