ok. now really coming on Friday. "obsessed" still the focus track. Yet this. Which are we to believe? I don't see them promoting both songs at once. At any rate, it's rarely been mentioned that the album has actually held surprisingly well on the chart, still #14 in its 27th week. This is pretty remarkable for an album that's had no standout tracks besides Vampire. It seems her overall streaming (and album sales) are still high, so general interest in her still remains strong.

I just want to know who is the source of the embed X/tweet above because I don't see where it's been said that "love is embarrasing" will/is going to be the next single from the album. Also, the phrase 'expected to be' seems more like a rumour (or a fan fiction) to me honestly.

The tour + holidays will push guts to around 600k pure sales which is in line with Billie’s last release. On the album front she’s still competitive with the top sellers outside of the Taylor outlier.

Hm, “new versions” is very specific. I wondered if it’s possible that what she wrote was just misinterpreted but that seems explicit. I’m curious to see how drastic the changes are.

She needs to fire her team ASAP. Um she's about to earn 50 million dollars or so from the tour. She's not firing anyone

She's not firing anyone She let people go from her team between SOUR and GUTS, so it’s not unimaginable that she would fire people... especially since the fact that her tour is doing well is because of her and her music moreso than because of her team.

Just finished my listen of the deluxe, and I completely agree with Rosaliner that the deluxe really adds something to the experience here. These are all really solid tracks here. "Girl I've Always Been" is particularly a really cool sound I'd love to see her explore more, and "Obsessed" definitely sounds like single material. I'd rank them as follows on first listen:
1. Girl I've Always Been 2. Obsessed 3. So American 4. Stranger 5. Scared of My Guitar

Just listened to the deluxe tracks and I like all of the songs. My favorites are "Obsessed" and "Scared of My Guitar". I do wish "Girl I've Always Been" would have been longer.
Now, for her next era, I hope she ventures out a bit more because I feel most of her music is starting to blend together a little bit too much. I love the songs but still hope she gives us something fresh for the third album.

^ That's really good if you ask me! All five new tracks debuting with over 1 million, and would be much higher in rank if not for Future/Metro Boomin.
obsessed also at #46 and so american at #189 on Apple Music so far.

The deluxe release was a good idea. As much of a mess as this era has been handled, this should boost the album quite nicely and "Obsessed" should be able to become a nice sized hit, hopefully another top 10!

I am exceptionally late to the party, but I listened to this for the first time tonight with low expectations.
Some context before I give my thoughts - I could not get into Sour other than "good 4 u." As a 30-something, most of that album was too much of a high-schooler perspective for me to relate to it much, but I thought she had a solid pen and good instincts that would improve over time.
AND BOY HAS SHE IMPROVED.
From the reviews on this board, I thought we were getting Sour Pt. 2 with a few bratty pop punk records and a bunch of acoustic teenage ballads, but that was not the case AT ALL. The lyrics showed growth as a songwriter and wisdom beyond her years (Making The Bed especially). The album was varied and kept me interested to see what was coming next. The deluxe tracks didn't fit the vibe of the standard completely, but they were 90s alternative throwbacks that I loved! I immediately wanted to listen again when it ended and now I'm sad that the singles were mismanaged because it's such a good record. I wish she had been nominated for more Grammys because it was certainly deserving.

Wait?? Over a Taylor album? How is that possible? I honestly did not think Sour was THAT big.

Wait?? Over a Taylor album? How is that possible? I honestly did not think Sour was THAT big. and the fact it only has 11 tracks... overall streams: 12.27B1.drivers license 2.15B 2.good 4 u 2.14B 3.deja vu 1.57B 4.traitor 1.53B 5.happier 1.10B 6.favorite 1.02B 7.jealousy, jealousy 862M 8.brutal 627M 9.1 step forward, 3 steps back 473M 10.enough for you 448M 11.hope ur ok 321M average streams per song: 1.11B - the only album in history to cross 1B mark. also, it's the only album to have 4 songs over 1.5B streams, and tied with Bad Bunny's Un Verano Sin Ti as the album with the most songs over 1B. It'll be the first with 7, since jealousy, jealousy is coming (862M / 700k per day) vs UVST's Neverita (818M / 400k per day). Taylor's most streamed album (Lover) has 10.19B streams.

These touring numbers are incredible. Hopefully this bodes well for her third album.

To think she went from an album with 12B streams to an album with less than 4B streams is crazy. This next era is gonna be critical for Olivia IMO.

She could’ve sold out Sofi Stadium with how many people went to her *six* LA arena concerts. Setting her up to have to match the success of the most streamed female album in Spotify history is only going to lead to disappointment. All things considered, GUTS did very well for her.

To be fair, one album has been out for three years and few months, while the other has been out for eleven months. Not the fairest comparison to make. I mean, it's still a huge drop a year out considering it has no active singles, has concluded, and its daily streams on average have currently fallen 1-2 million below Sour. It's not as if I was being unreasonable with my expectations or even with what I said. While I don't think anyone expected the streaming success of Sour to be duplicated, I don't think most expected such a steep drop either considering just how huge of a streaming force she is. I say the next era is critical because artists typically try like hell to avoid the "sophomore slump" and if they do experience it, era 3 is really what dictates in which direction everything goes from that point forward. Not saying she's over or anything, just being realistic with the circumstances. She just needs to bring her A game next album in terms of commercial appeal. Guts is a solid album IMO, but it didn't quite resonate with audiences in a big way.

I don't think she is in trouble or that Guts flopped by any means, but I have to think they are having some conversations even now about why they struggled to get a single to stick after Vampire and, particularly, some of the songs had terrrrrrrrible streaming. It's baffling to me because its not like there was a terrible drop in quality or something.

It's baffling to me because its not like there was a terrible drop in quality or something. Oh yeah I wouldn't say Guts flopped per say, way too harsh, moreso under-performed (and I say under-performed because I'm sure it didn't quite meet label expectations and/or a more natural decline from her debut). Part of me always wondered how much "Vampire" coasted off the good will and success of how huge the Sour era was and it being the direct followup as really any moderately good song was going to be a substantial success regardless (not saying it was terrible or anything, just not a personal fav or as strong as Sour's singles). I think the real mistakes came via her label later on with all the single confusion/cluttering. I was surprised "Get Him Back" didn't hit big, as it seemed right in line with what people want from Olivia, but I guess not. Personally I always wished they had gone for "Love Is Embarrassing". That seemed like such a great option narratively speaking for her career; it was insanely catchy, fun, incredibly self-aware, and called back to the Sour era. She's gonna be fine regardless, but I think if they're looking to replicate the huge success of her debut, they need to really bring something special with album 3.

It's amusing to me that she's mirroring her idol, Alanis, in the late 90s. However, I think Alanis rejected fame and just followed her muse but it doesn't seem like Olivia is doing the same, so I think she can have a commercial rebound if she wants and has the material to back it up.
Jagged Little Pill sold over 12 million copies; SFIJ sold 4 million and had a hit lead single but nothing else stuck. Sour got over 12 billion streams; GUTS has about 4 billion streams and had a hit lead single but nothing else stuck.

Not worried for Olivia at all, not everything will click with the audience, but yeaah, she just needs to spice it up a bit for her 3rd album. Look at Billie Eilish and the difference between HTE and HMHAS.

Look at Billie Eilish and the difference between HTE and HMHAS. This is exactly the level of progression I was imagining/hoping for, for her third effort. Imagine, like Billie, she takes the image/sound she's known for, dives even deeper into it, perfects and finetunes it, and delivers a masterpiece ala HMHAS. Like Sour, matured, on progressive steroids! A pop/punk masterclass! She would be back on top easily and her fanbase would only multiply. She needs just one more huge era to solidify her place as a pop phenomenon!
