I feel like SYT got lost in the shuffle, but hopefully enough for a top 10 appearance. And wow and BL performance! A top 10 is already a lock for THIS week(2/13), so it can easily be top 5 |

Yeah, that performance was underwhelming... I don't see where the extra $7 million he allegedly spent went to and he definitely did need some guest stars to bring some more energy to the whole performance because he clearly couldn't carry that on his own.I mean, that's a really hard thing to do. In the last 10 years, I think only Beyonce and Gaga were able to do it IMO, and I'm not even the biggest fan of their music. |

Yah I agree it was a bit underwhelming. My favorite bit my actually be the opening with Starboy and The Hills, just the way the background chorus is implemented makes it feel so big. I definitely do think there was either audio problems or perhaps Abel was just moving around too much so he didn't sound as good as he should be. Also the Can't Feel My Face was too disorienting. I get what they were going for but the camera was way too close, I think just tilting it slightly every so often would've accomplished the same thing without viewers going dizzy.

I frankly surprised he didnβt do Pray For Me as a Chadwick Boseman tribute with Kendrick I think there were a lot of missed opportunities with his performance. I'm not even seeing people talk much about it online. It's just like "yeah, okay, whatever." I felt the same way when Maroon 5 and Justin Timberlake headlined the gig as well. |

thoughts re: halftime
the opening was VERY GOOD. the opening shot, the choir, it was promising... but it went south very quickly, between The Weeknd not being able to command the stage and the lack of any guest appearances to break that, I was lost and bored. I remember someone saying "The Weeknd is spending $7 million of his own money on this because it's promo for his tour" and well, this was not a convincing performance for that. but I'm also willing to cut him some slack, as I'm imagining there were many restrictions in place.
on the flip side, he really has many bops and I'm sure there will be interest in The Highlights and his catalog, as well as a nice boost for Blinding Lights and perhaps Save Your Tears. I don't think #1 is very likely for BL, though.

I think BL should be #1 on AM by now to go #1 on Hot 100 (it has only 4 days to make up the gap), but we'll be wiser in a few hours. BL is kind of saturated - it has had such a huge audience and streaming numbers already so it's unlikely that one performance would boost THAT much considering it's been one of the most popular tracks in the world for a year now. But it still has the advantage in airplay, so we'll see. It's currently #14 on Apple Music US and Abel's performance was almost 10 hours ago. Any boost it would have seen on Apple Music would have happened already seeing as the boost on iTunes has already happened. I think it rises to #2 on the Hot 100 but #1 seems out of the question. While drivers license is losing significant streams weekly, it's rapid gains on radio are cushioning it's fall on other metrics. |

Going up two positions to #1 isnβt exactly a huge boost. Million Reasons also went from not charting to re-entering at #4 directly after the SuperBowl, so yeah, there has been boosts that big. |

If Weekndβs team had the drive of Taylor Swiftβs team for example, all they wouldβve had to do was sell 25k~ βautographedβ or special edition CD Singles that shipped this week and they wouldβve had #1 on lock.
