It'll obviously take a few weeks or months, but it will be interesting to watch if the 'Fearless (TV)' tracks actually put a significant dent in the originals (album/tracks in both sales/streaming).
It's possible the TV version may only minimally impact the originals. The overwhelming majority of listeners aren't aware/don't care about the business/creative issues involved. If the originals still populate playlists, the long-term impact to the current owners will be minimal.
Since '1989' is coming up: Bad Blood (original) + Bad Blood (KL) included?

If the originals still populate playlists, the long-term impact to the current owners will be minimal. Since '1989' is coming up: Bad Blood (original) + Bad Blood (KL) included? It does look like it's already starting to make a dent, but not a huge one. I used the Twitter account @tayonspotify to track the weekly Spotify streams of Fearless OG. I was able to get weekly data all the way back to October of last year. This is what I found for the weekly numbers. The date is the end of the tracking week, always Thursday: 10/29/20: 7,664,981 11/5/20: 7,314,653 11/12/20: 7,360,956 11/19/20: 7,362,564 11/26/20: 7,371,599 12/3/20: 7,179,829 12/10/20: 7,511,185 12/17/20: 8,120,499 12/24/20: 7,352,111 12/31/20: 6,907,394 1/7/21: 7,221,418 1/14/21: 7,897,386 1/21/21: 7,882,866 1/28/21: 7,889,123 2/4/21: 8,074,169 2/11/21: 10,005,167 2/18/21: 15,859,096 2/25/21: 10,450,702 3/4/21: 9,547,245 3/11/21: 8,734,597 3/18/21: 8,832,410 3/25/21: 8,885,750 4/1/21: 9,192,280 4/8/21: 11,070,602 4/15/21: 9,372,444 4/22/21: 7,441,327 4/29/21: 6,942,260 As you can see, despite the hype of Fearless TV, the OG version dipped below 7 million weekly streams for the first time since the last week of 2020, which most likely was just low due to the holiday season. Other than that week, the album hasn't been this low for quite some time. I don't have numbers earlier than this, and I'm not sure how useful it would be since streams of all of her catalog albums have significantly increased over the past year. On Apple Music, it's a little hard to tell what the story is since they don't release streaming numbers, and I haven't been tracking the album positions, but Fearless OG is currently #32 on the country albums chart and debut is not far away at #37. The very small gap and possibility of debut overtaking Fearless makes me think the OG might be losing streams there too. I can't see the OG version dying off, especially if its songs are still on playlists (including Taylor's own "This is Taylor Swift") but Fearless TV might continue to make a dent in the OG's streams. It already seems like enough of a dent to prevent the OG from re-entering the B200. I'll keep tracking the OG's streams and update again at some point because I'm fascinated to see how this turns out.

Taylor will be presented with the Global Icon Award at this year's BRIT Awards.
Previously given to The Beatles, Elton John, David Bowie and Robbie Williams. She will be the first woman AND the first non-British person to receive this recognition.
Living Legend.

The decline has actually been very substantial for everything other than Love Story and You Belong With Me (ie the big playlisted hits). Compared to late March, the Platinum tracks dropped by about 60-65%, album tracks dropped by about 50%, and the three smaller singles dropped by about 35-40%. The two big singles only dropped by about 10%.

Wow even the rerecorded albums are gonna get these dumb EPs of random album tracks? I really can't believe these damn things actually help streaming like...

Do the chapters affect things like what comes up on the search function on streaming apps? Like if a song is featured on multiply albums, does that make it more likely to show up when someone searches for the song?
Also evermore signed CDs are on her website. They ship the same time as the vinyls, so I think we’ll be seeing a 60-1 jump on the Billboard 200 in a few weeks.

I just think they pop up on the "New Releases" thingy and fool casual fans into streaming old stuff. I want this trend gone asap.

At best I can only imagine they give that small selection of songs a one-week bump in streams that they wouldn’t otherwise have had. It definitely does clutter her page, but I don’t know - it’s kinda a clever, simple way to reignite some semblance of temporary interest from the majority of listeners who seem to move on to new music within a week nowadays.

Do y’all think Taylor actually signs these? On her website it says “signed by Taylor Swift” and I can’t imagine she would lie about that, especially to her fans...
I’m a sucker and still bought it because my folklore signed copy needs it’s sister, but I’m still curious.

Ugh I’d consider it if I hadn’t already preordered from Urban Outfitters. Waiting for an update on when it’ll ship. It was months ago so I’m hoping it wasn’t somehow cancelled. Being in Canada meant I had to jump at the first opportunity to get the vinyl because the availibility of folklore was so unpredictable.

If you’re signing thousands of copies, you’re going to shorthand your signature and eventually just start to make marks. I dunno, it’s a crappy tactic if they are falsely advertising “signed by the artist” for $25 bucks just to receive a signature from their assistant. I’m sure many artists do it but I have a childlike faith that Taylor wouldn’t pull that on her fans.

This thread explains why the chapters are actually a really important strategy for Taylor to get streams towards Taylor's Version over the old versions. Taylor remains Taygenius as always.

^ I can see that argument for Taylor's Versions I guess but she did the same thing for Folklore and Evermore so... clearly not the sole reason.

Post by neverduplicated on May 13, 2021 14:52:53 GMT -5
^ True, it's not the only reason, but it seems quite compelling in this case. Maybe the folklore and evermore chapters were a way of testing out how this strategy might pan out?
