Selfishly, I'm less than thrilled to hear she's going to have a Spanish song on the record since I don't particularly care for songs in different languages since I only know English. However, I am very intrigued to hear what Kacey does with the arrangement of this and am truly inspired by how she experiments with so many different sounds. I know she's been really excited about learning Spanish so you know she's really excited about this song being on the album (the Rolling Stone interview also shows her enthusiasm for this song). So so so so ready for this album. Please hurry up and at least give us a date to look forward to! hopefully she'll scrap it, i think it might actually do some damage (unless its like a japan bonus track or something)

Anyway, I’d be surprised if it isn’t on the album at this point. We’ve heard about the Latin influence this album has been said to have and we know the letters of the titles of the songs on the album that’s already finished and this song lines up with one of the titles. So unless something changes, it’ll be on the album.

It's only one song from the album. It would be a treat for her spanish-speaking fans, and also, if the song is indeed a Violeta Parra's Gracias a la Vida cover, I can totally see Kacey's voice killing it, it's such a beautiful song.

Y’all need to be careful with your word choices in here. Singing In Spanish is not “experimental.” And what damage would a song in a different language do?! Just because a song is in Spanish doesn’t mean it has to be enjoyed only/mostly by Spanish speaking fans. I’m sure she has Spanish speaking fans that enjoy her music in English just as equally. Music is a universal language. Don’t limit your boundaries - grow people.

Just because a song is in Spanish doesn’t mean it has to be enjoyed only/mostly by Spanish speaking fans. I’m sure she has Spanish speaking fans that enjoy her music in English just as equally. Music is a universal language. Don’t limit your boundaries - grow people. Like Au$tin mentioned, I never said her singing in Spanish was experimental - her sound is what I mentioned her experimenting with and I mentioned that in tandem with my comment about "Gracias a la Vida" because there was mention of "Latin influence" on this record dating back to her Rolling Stone interview in February. Nothing in her catalog has any sort of Latin influence to it up to this point, so including that on this record would be experimenting with her sound. I hope the Latin influence doesn't just stop with this song - I hope it's carried over onto some of the songs she's written for this project too! I'm happy that she's including a song in Spanish on the record because of her passion for learning Spanish and her fanbase that does speak Spanish (there were a ton of people reacting on Twitter about how excited they were for this as someone from Argentina/Spain/Mexico, etc.). And to The Brazilian Guy 🇧🇷 's point, I'm very intrigued as to how this fits on the rest of the record. The reason I'm "less than thrilled" about a song in Spanish being on her record is because the reason I fell in love with Kacey from the get-go was because her songwriting. That remains my favorite thing about her. In fact, lyrics are the main reason why I love most music. I wish I had the time and energy to learn Spanish (and other languages) to better appreciate music in languages other than English, but unfortunately I grew up in America where that isn't valued. I can appreciate music sonically, even vocally in other languages but if I don't know what they're saying, there's only so much I can get from the song. But it's one song (out of 15) and I'm one person, so I'm not mad about it being included on the album, it just probably wouldn't have been my pick. I'll wait to reserve judgement until I hear the full album though!

If you were one of the lucky ones to see her at either the Houston Rodeo or her first Austin date during the 2nd leg of the Oh, What A World Tour you would've been blessed to hear her cover of Selena's Como La Flor. So this isn't anything "new" to her per se. It was a sight to experience with the us cheering her on and singing right alongside her. It was nothing but smiles all around.

She also has "spanish" influence in her version of Feliz Navidad on her Christmas record, which comes with another song offering a completely different language phrase, Mali Kalikimaka.
So, again, I will repeat, be careful how you use your words when referring to songs in different languages. Particularly the comment about enjoying Kacey's music because of her songwriting.
Seeing post after post with words like experimentation, I prefer English written music, dangerous, and non-English songs not being valued in America, when referring to music, is problematic and provides the kind of micro-aggressions that people of non-white communities have to encounter on a daily basis where maybe the intent was innocent.

As someone who grew up loving songs in Portuguese, Spanish, English and Italian, I just love when artists show interest in performing in different languages.
I was so excited when Kacey shared herself listening to Elis Regina and João Gilberto on her IG stories a while ago. They are two of the greatest Brazilian artists of all time and It felt so good to see her appreciating my culture.
Unfortunately, it seems so rare for english-speaking artists to show genuine interest when they do attempt performing in different languages... Most times it just feels very strategic in terms of gaining new markets or getting foreign streaming numbers. I think that also totally relates with the lack of value most of the english-speaking population (especially in the US) gives to foreign language art (not just music). Hopefully we can see a shift in that in the near future (I think we are already seeing glimpses of that)

Maybe I'm missing something, but I really don't understand how having a preference for songs written in a language I actually understand is a micro-aggression. I'm not saying I hate all music in other languages or that I don't appreciate music in other languages, but I typically find it difficult to enjoy songs as much if I don't understand the lyrics. There are certainly other aspects of the songs I can enjoy though, like I mentioned before. I think a similar analogy would be how I enjoyed the movie Parasite for multiple reasons, but if it weren't for the English subtitles it would have been difficult for me to understand what was going on. I could have still enjoyed the cinematography, costume design, film editing, visual effects, etc. but the story wouldn't have been as impactful for me if I didn't understand the dialogue. I hope that better explains where I'm coming from with this. Definitely no ill intentions with my comments and I apologize if it offended anyone. I'm definitely intrigued to hear her sing in Spanish and to hear what she does with the cover of Gracias a la Vida. I'm sure I'll enjoy it because I've never disliked something of Kacey's, it will just take some extra effort on my part to learn what the Spanish lyrics mean (I'm already starting to learn from listening to Mercedes' version)! PS. Also my comment was that learning other languages isn't valued in America, not that music in other languages isn't valued. I can see how that could be misinterpreted with the way I worded that though. I sooooo wish I would've had more than just 1 year of Spanish in high school so I could know more than just English. I do hope America starts to value foreign language, art, culture, etc. more than it currently does.

Someone just really wants to be mad I see. The level of reaching to call people out for something that isn't there is mind boggling.
Someone doing something they don't normally do is called experimenting. Full stop. That's it. There is no deeper meaning. If a Spanish speaking musician sang a song in English after releasing three albums of Spanish, that would be experimental too. It has nothing to do with the specific language.

The same people coming for the "I don't speak Spanish so I prefer her singing in English, but it's cool that she's experimenting" crowd will also be the same ones throwing shade if she were to butcher the Spanish cover (which we know she won't, but still). Some of y'all need to chill. I love that she's doing a song in Spanish. That's cool. I'm excited to see what she brings on the new record because I know it's gonna be another transcending experience like Golden Hour was, which was her most cohesive and flaw-free project yet.

Some of y'all need to chill. I mean, taking on a Spanish language record before you learn the language or even the proper pronunciation is at least as disrespectful and tasteless as complaining about her putting a Spanish cover on her album before even hearing it just because you don't speak Spanish. Both come from the same "I speak English and expect everyone to speak it & shower me in compliments for pronouncing 'quesadilla' correctly" type of worldview. (That said I don't think zaclord intended to come off that way and explained what they meant, but the way some of y'all are rushing to tell someone they're "overreacting" is... interesting 👀 and a microaggression in and of itself.) At the end of the day, she'll still have, what, 14 songs in English showcasing her own writing skills, which is one more than Golden Hour. Let's all celebrate her talent and artistic vision, and shelve the comebacks and the sick burns?

I mean, the only comment that seemed even remotely problematic was the person who said they hoped she scrapped it because it might damage her career which is pretty dramatic and a big stretch. Go awf and read her all y'all want, but I didn't even see anyone directly coming for her. Eta: okay at least one person did quote her

I'm a cultured bitch so I'm totally here for Miss Mustygraves singing in Spanish! I think it's good for her to help offset some of the xenophobia in the larger country community In all seriousness one Spanish song won't kill ya, y'all listen to worse!
