Morgan Wallen released an apology earlier this week. I think these "apologies" are getting old. Put your money where your mouth is. Make a big donation. Work with some organizations. Show us some growth. At least he's technically apologizing. The bare minimum, I know, but look at how Gina Carano just doubled down on her s**t and started doing some stupid film with Ben Shapiro or something like that's gonna make her Star Wars-levels of money lmao.

They really need to get rid of these website digital sales, CD's & vinyls tactics. It's pretty evident it's being taken advantage of & mainly just works to benefit the major fanbases. Unfortunately, sales are dead and we really should just let streaming overtake at this point. Mass not buying is not an accurate reflection of actual sales. Or at least weigh sales down at this point. Mass streaming is not an accurate reflection. It's passive comsuption. Sales, speacially website ones are active consuption aka people go out of their ways to actually spend money on music. Weigh them UP.

Nobody's saying get rid of sales completely. But 10k buying copies should not have more impact on the chart than 10million streams. I can safely say at least 11k of that 10 million actively searched for the track (not all streaming is passive).
If the chart is meant to gauge the most popular track, how can a small number of people buying multiple copies make a track more popular? It's just the same 10k people. You're not reaching anyone else.

It's quite common for Dua's releases, they're usually slow-burners. Recent Eg: Levitating PS- I appreciate the fact that unlike many estd stars who extensively depend on their stans to make their songs into hits (evident with their huge debuts & gradual slide into obscurity), her hits are mainly due to their own merit & feel legit This is such a funny way of trying to twist it. Reality is her songs start out slow because there isn't much interest in her music, and end up sticking around thanks to extensive radio and playlisting. I think it's a valid argument, and your reasoning itself doesn't make much sense. The fact that her hits started off slow and took a while to build up only proves that they grew mostly organically on their own merits, and were bought and streamed because people were finding out about them and grew to like them. Do you think artists who have immediate splashes on the charts due to mass-fan purchasing and industry tactics is more admirable? I also wouldn't think all her streaming is due to playlisting, though I'll admit it's somewhat suspicious that radio is keeping Levitating around despite its low callout scores. Don't know what the radio callouts for her other songs were like.

Playlisting only works if people don't skip the track. Streaming services will never share those metrics, but they surely keep track of how many people skip songs, which is why something like "NO" by Meghan Trainor gets only two days on Today's Top Hits.

You're not reaching anyone else. It's not about the number of people reached but the money each track makes. Yes, the chart is also based in part on how much revenue a song drives, but at some point that needs to be muted if it's the same small group of people buying multiple copies over and over again solely for the purpose of effecting an exact chart position. Also, in terms of streaming vs. sales, just because people stream a song instead of buying it doesn't mean they care about it or like it less. One can actively search out and select a song to listen to many times on streaming services in the same way they do on digital retailers, and choose to do so simply because it is MUCH, MUCH cheaper, or free.

Wow the song is so forgotten and skippable you forgot which one it was! (It was "No Excuses," not "NO.")

I went to my cousin's sweet 16 two years ago and Lil Tjay came out and performed for the crowd. I had no idea who he was then. I was like "why is everyone freaking out about this local rapper 💀" and now he's all famous and s**t with a top 5 hit in the UK.

Anyone else notice Taylor says "Romeo" like "Room-e-oh" instead of "Rome-e-oh" in both versions of Love Story

The new Dua Lipa might not even chart, it's all down to the Spotify numbers.

It was the biggest in my state. There was a whole line for his autograph. My mom and I got in line because why not. I didn't know his name, but me and my mom got a free autograph. That rapper was Kendrick Lamar. He must have liked the tomato selection there lmao. I still have the signature up in my room.

Taylor got a Superbowl sized boost on Spotify today (+16-17m compared to a few days ago). I wonder how much of that will go towards Love Story re-entering and how much will go to boosting her Evermore songs.
