Had to quickly get my votes in now before I leave for work  Porter Robinson - “Musician” (Trilogy, #2) vs. Nilüfer Yanya - “Crash” (wamdjones, #5) - “Musician” has been on my personal chart for some time now, might be my favorite PR song. It gives off such a good vibe for me, always makes me feel really happy. “Crash” is really solid too, and I’d love to vote for it but I’m just honestly obsessed with “Musician”. Pink f/ Willow Sage Hart - “Cover Me In Sunshine” (Keatonzab, #2) vs. Kassi Ashton - “Black Motorcycle” (Stacey, #5) - “Cover Me In Sunshine” is honestly pretty nice. It doesn’t have *too* much going on, but I think it works here. “Black Motorcycle” is also pretty cool, definitely a jam. It does get a bit repetitive after a while though. I like these both, though I’ll give Pink a vote here to switch it up. Loviet - “Dullshine” (lyhom, #2) vs. HEALTH - “CYBERPUNK 2.0.2.0.” (Geometrical, #5) - I love the buildup in “Dullshine”, especially when the chorus hits- that had me jamming  “CYBERPUNK 2.0.2.0.” is super mysterious, definitely an interesting sounding song. Declan McKenna - “You Better Believe!!!” (DistrictTwelve, #2) vs. Zella Day f/ Weyes Blood - “Holocene” (Kyle #5) - Aw this matchup is not cool :( Declan’s song is such a banger, but Zella & Weyes work so well together in “Holocene”. I’m going to give this to the first listen, but these both deserve to go through in my opinion. Christian Lee Hutson - “Lose This Number” (born, #2) vs. Fleece - “Do You Mind? (Leave The Light On)” (wrip, #5)- I’m up against Jim :( fr though, “Lose Your Number” is so good, so sweet and so comforting. “Do U Mind?” has been on repeat for me lately, the production is so chill yet it still hits hard for me. Why do I have to be up against one of my favorite discoveries this set :'( Josef Salvat - “One More Night” (Juan Carlos, #2) vs. Saweetie f/ Doja Cat - “Best Friend” (Fire, #5)- Really cool production in “Night”, definitely a jam. “Best Friend” is literally so awesome, Doja and Saweetie really work well on it. Rico Nasty - “iPhone” (BB, #2) vs. The Happy Fits - “Hold Me Down” (Macattack, #5) - “Hold Me Down” is a nice discovery! Love a solid alt jam. “iPhone” though is one of my top songs from the last year, the production is unmatched imo. Delilah Montagu - “Loud” (nickd, #2) vs. Cromartie f/Tod Soul - “Fall Season” (Lordeftones, #5)- I don’t have a whole lot of specific things to say about both of these, but both are really nice discoveries! Porter Robinson - “Musician” (Trilogy, #2) vs. Nilüfer Yanya - “Crash” (wamdjones, #5)
The intro to "Musician" was a great way to kick off the playlist, lemme tell you. If "Look At The Sky" doesn't wind up being Porter's entry on my personal year-end list it'll be this one. The song is ethereal bliss to listen to, even with the heavy modification to his vocals (it could also be a Vocaloid, which wouldn't be new territory for Porter). The lyrics are excellent as well, diving deeply into Porter's perspective on fame and whether music was the career he truly wanted to pursue. Check out the music video too, which is filled with crazy visuals. "Crash" is the victim of a truly unfortunate matchup here, for me it had no chance of upending "Musician", but it's a neat electronic-tinged song on its own.

Neither song really grabbed my attention but "Black Motorcycle" felt like it had more substance so it gets the nod.

"Dullshine" was slick, melodic electronic pop and I admit I'm a sucker for that kind of sound in a guilty pleasure type of way. "CYBERPUNK 2.0.2.0" was pretty good too; it was a very similar song, albeit with heavier percussion. "Dullshine" had stronger hooks so I'm opting to move that along, but either song is a worthy pick IMO.

This was probably the best song I've heard from Declan McKenna, it has a neat progression to it.

"Hold Me Down" was a surprise favorite of mine last year and I'm glad it's starting to get attention. They have such a unique take on the indie rock sound - they have a cellist instead of a bassist and that makes a lot of what they do feel fresh and invigorating. The cello gives a rock song such a unique bassline, and it blends in well with the more typical electric guitar. These guys have a lot of fire and give a fresh perspective on rock music and what it could evolve into during this decade, and I hope we see more from them for years to come. "iPhone" was autotuned to almost a reckless extent, it had no chance of convincing me to turn on my pick.

- I'm not particularly huge on these, but I've enjoyed a handful of Porter Robinson's songs. It's no "Look At The Sky", but it's still a solid tune overall.

- As much as I love P!nk, "Cover Me In Sunshine" doesn't blow me away the way P!nk's songs used to. It's sweet, but really nothing more than that. "Black Motorcycle" is kind of a cool discovery. I like her voice a lot.

- Okay, now this one is tough. While listening to "Dullshine", I thought for sure that would be my winner because of how much of a jam it is. But then "CYBERPUNK 2.0.2.0." put up one hell of a fight and ultimately won me over. There's something about the beat that I just find really intriguing and the vocal delivery is really interesting as well.

- I've only heard a few songs from Declan McKenna, but I enjoy what I've heard. "You Better Believe!!!" is no "Be An Astronaut", but there are some aspects that I enjoy a fair amount. "Holocene" is really nice and I love the vocal harmonies. I could see myself coming back to this one.

- "Lose This Number" is pretty good. I think the instrumental here is quite nice. I like "Do U Mind?" as well. I think it's very vibey and it has a good beat. I don't have too strong of a preference, but I think I lean towards Fleece here.

- This one isn't particularly close for me. "Best Friend" is kind of just not my cup of tea. I haven't liked anything either of these artists have released and I honestly just found the song boring. I can kind of see the appeal, but it's just not for me. I really dig the production on "One More Night". This one is a jam!

- I cannot stand the amount of autotune on "iPhone". It actually makes the song hard to listen to, in addition to the production being a little too over the top. Not my thing. "Hold Me Down" is cool though. This sounds like something I've heard before, but I can't figure out what or when that was. Regardless, it's one of those cool alt discoveries that I like finding in these Madness games.

- "Loud" is so good! I love the light, airy production and her vocal delivery is honestly flawless. She has a beautiful voice! I like this one a lot! "Fall Season" is kind of cool too. I like the flow in the verses. Solid tune overall, but I have to go with Delilah here.

"Musician" is a bop. Nurture was great too; I never expected to say this for an EDM album but I like the lyrical themes throughout the album. I'll just echo what everyone else is saying that "Crash" is good too but it being up against "Musician" was just unfortunate for the song.

Both were cool first listens. Ultimately I'm more drawn to the melodies in "Dullshine" so my vote goes to that one.

I enjoyed the instrumentals in "You Better Believe!!!" quite a bit. I don't think I'm fully sold on the song yet but that doesn't change the fact that Declan McKenna is an artist I still need to check out more. "Holocene" was nice too, but I think the instrumentals in the former won out for me.

Nice bassline in "Loud", I liked some of the disco (?) influences in the song with the guitars (I feel like I just hear those types of guitar riffs in nu-disco songs so I just assumed it's a disco thing but idk I'm not that good at telling genres/influences so). "Fall Season" had a nice flow to it though, and the beat was nice and chill.

I continue to find Porter Robinson...completely fine while also thinking why don't I like this more than I do. Crash was a pretty cool first listen, it's a pretty ecclectic blend of genres, really heavy sound to the bass too, I just think that it's a little on the repetitive side.

Ehh this isn't the best song I've heard from Zeros, but I still like Declan's style here, maybe it's just a bit too gaudy and the hook isn't as good as Beautiful Faces and the build isn't as good as Be an Astronaut, but it's fine. Holocene is, alright, it's about on par with every other Weyes Blood song I've heard, perfectly fine in the background. Definitely wouldn't have expected to see her with Zella Day, but she does fine in this style too. Uhh this one's really a tossup, I'll give it to Declan cause I imagine Holocene will win anyway.

I quite like Josef Salvat. I didn't really care much for anything from his 2020 album, but I do like First Time a lot, and I think this one is just as good, will chart it as a followup. This is actually my first time hearing Best Friend, and it's pretty fun! I've heard literally nothing else by Saweetie before, but she and Doja have good chemistry, beat is good, catchy chorus. It's a fun listen, I wouldn't change the radio on it, but it's not really something I feel very inclined to return to voluntarily.

Delilah Montagu has been 2/2 in the last two Madnesses, I charted Next to You and Version of Me very well, so I was excited to see her name in this round. This one...didn't do too much to impress me though. I still think her voice is lovely, but I do think the song is a little too soft and lacks the theatrics that make me like her other songs so much. It's okay, maybe it'd grow on me. Fall Season was also ok, I like the instrumental enough, but I just don't care for this guy's rap style from what I've heard from him.
