Really not good. Unfortunately, it will appear to be a hit, fueled by fans.

You know what, I don’t mind if this is song of the summer. I’d love it tbh. After all the sad s**t of the past few years, this is just so JUBILANT. It’s embarrassing that this song is actually making me emotional now but like...I just want to be HAPPY. I’ve been so, so sad and struggling to get out of bed. The hook’s melody is almost melancholy to me, which makes it hit 10x harder. I know you’ll all roll your eyes, but this feels like an instant summer classic to me. It makes me think of the euphoria of early 2010s pop. Definitely my fave single from them since “Fake Love” Talk ya sh!t. Respectfully.

This isn't as good as I was expecting it to be. It's still decent though. I prefer "Dynamite".

The chorus sounds similar to Dynamite. I don’t think I can say it’s worse than that monstrosity, but it’s pretty bad.

Wow this is severely underwhelming. I was expecting so much better, considering a certain user here was hyping it up to be one of the best written songs ever. ok I was overreacting, I was crying a lot last night 😭 but I really do love the song. I think the biggest reason why I like it is who it reminds me of. Lemme explain myself- For me personally, pop music is at its best when it’s communal. When two people become tentative friends because they get into a passionate discussion about how good Melodrama is, when a car full of people howls the words to “thank u, next”, when the first few seconds of “Dancing On My Own”’s buzzy synth elicits screams from a crowd during a Robyn concert. Its ability to unite strangers and bring friends closer is beautiful.
The reason why this song hit my off-my-meds ass so hard is because of what it made me think of. It just *sounds* like a song you listen to with people. I didn’t want to just listen to it by myself, I wanted to play it during a road trip or dance to it with friends (which are foreign activities in a post(ish)-pandemic world). It has been lonely this past year (you all can relate), and I...was hit off-guard when I pressed play. I wanted to boogie to basic pop, not to have a ~*moment*~ I got emotional writing that too smh, but really. TL;DR it makes me think of my friends, of doing quintessential summer shit etc

I'm listening to it for a second time since usually the second listen helps me establish better how much I like a song. I'm not really sold on the verses right now, but on this second listen I'm vibing with the chorus. As of right now I like Dynamite more, but maybe over time I'll like this more

It’s definitely better on the second listen. I could see it be a legit hit and it’s catchy without being over the top catchy the way Dynamite was.
My qualm with the song, and maybe it’s just me, is that I don’t believe their performance. Everything feels so forced and structured and fake - basically what you’d get from a manufactured group. There’s no personality and it doesn’t feel authentic in any way. Now, before someone jumps down my throat, I’m not accusing them of being manufactured. I’d say the fact I say it sounds forced and fake to me might attest to the idea that I believe there’s more to them than this song. I think I felt the same about Dynamite - but I think I also chalked it up to them trying to break it in America by being as neutral and safe as possible with as much catchiness and earworm melodies as they could fit into three minutes. With all of that said, if they can break into English-audiences as a legit group, it would be interesting to see how they might explore their sound for English audiences. I have nothing against them (though their stans are a different story - but annoying stans aren’t exclusive to them either) so it’ll be interesting to see where they go from here.

This is one of the worst songs of all time on the first listen, who let them release this?

This is one of the worst songs of all time on the first listen, who let them release this? You are bitter kpop stan living in the past. I don't care about people not liking the song but you already showed your jealousy over your second generation idols not having the same success as BTS. Sadly for you, Butter is gonna be a hit.

Kind of sad when BTS team pays radio to play their song. We are gonna be forced to hear this all summer.

I like this. It reminds me of a few other songs during the verses and the chorus is similar to "Dynamite". It took me awhile to really get into "Dynamite". I always loved the last section of it but the rest was a little to poppy for me.

Kind of sad when BTS team pays radio to play their song. We are gonna be forced to hear this all summer. Lol I wouldn’t even go there. BTS is still a big enough draw that radio would WANT to play this ASAP when it was released because it’s a two-way street and mutually beneficial. Quite frankly, payola claims over hype songs like this is not only lazy and ignorant, it’s tired. I don’t think this is the biggest first day but it’s pretty close. I made a thread a few years ago (but didn’t keep it updated) over some of the biggest first days. I think the most was maybe almost 2100? But there were only a half dozen at that point about 1500.
