Never understood why That's What I Like was bigger than 24K Magic despite the latter being the lead single. 24K Magic is better

A lot of times it depends not only on how big a song is but how big it is relative to what else is being released at the time. Both songs did pretty well, to be sure. Most people are more interested in why Versace On The Floor did far worse than both.

^Also, popularity is not necessarily equal to quality. Both are subjective, in different ways.

A lot of times it depends not only on how big a song is but how big it is relative to what else is being released at the time. Both songs did pretty well, to be sure. Most people are more interested in why Versace On The Floor did far worse than both. Simply put, VOTF was very poorly promoted, especially on radio. For some reason, Bruno's team thought it would be a good idea to push an awful David Guetta remix of the song to radio instead of the original, which audiences rightfully responded negatively to, killing its chances of becoming a real hit. As for why 24K Magic did worse than TWIL, I think it was timing more than anything. The former was released in October 2016, when tropical house and downbeat, depressing pop still ruled the airwaves, not to mention sociopolitical tensions were rising thanks to the upcoming 2016 US elections, so Bruno coming back with a virtual successor to Uptown Funk caught a lot of people off-guard. The latter was a bit more laid-back and mid-tempo, so when it was pushed in early 2017 as that type of sound was becoming more common on the charts, it did wonders on all platforms, went to #1, and spent a full year on the Hot 100.

Never understood why That's What I Like was bigger than 24K Magic despite the latter being the lead single. 24K Magic is better That's What I Like is a f**kin' jam and is by far Bruno's best song, I like 24K Magic but my main issue is that its super similar to Uptown Funk while That's What I Like is something else, also the quotes are insane. I remember Summer '17 and being able to sing the entire song, it's that memorable. Like the catchiness of the lyrics and the beat is why it continued to dominate and killed off Versace On The Floor because it refused to die.

It always felt weird to me that That's What I Like did better than 24K Magic. To me, 24K Magic is more memorable than the former and I might also be biased towards it because it was my parents' wedding song.

24k Magic was a disappointment.. it's Uptown Funk's ugly brother
TWIL is far better
but Versace On The Floor is the best single followed by Finesse

Butter’s YouTube counter is at 100M now. 3 hours to go.
I saw on Twitter that the song got 10M deleted, is it true?

YouTube is probably going to remove another chunk at the end of the 24hours but I’m sure they’ll end the night with 110million views

I feel like 24K Magic is remembered more by the public now than That's What I Like. It's not. That's What I Like is consistently getting around 500K views per day on Youtube while 24K Magic is nowhere to be found in the top 500.

^I find the video for That's What I Like quite clever. The one for 24k Magic is nothing that special.

I was disappointed Versace on the Floor didn't click in the US but at least it made top 40!
Versace was such a big hit here in my country way before it became an official single!
Anyway, excited to see how Olivia Rodrigo is performing so far!

Anyway, excited to see how Olivia Rodrigo is performing so far! Yeah it was huge in the Philippines (and the remix in Belgium), I wish it was able to experience the worldwide success it deserved (from a quality standpoint).

Butter** It's clear that Apple Music is not the ARMY's focus platform. This gives a more clear depiction of how butter is performing without fan support.

Just stopping by to drop a 24K Magic >>> Uptown Funk take. The adlibs on the verses are just too much fun.
