So Levitating was really the Hotline Bling of the weekly charts…

Happy to see traitor being noticed. It's one of my early favorites but most of my friends rank it at the bottom.

A lot of times it depends not only on how big a song is but how big it is relative to what else is being released at the time. Both songs did pretty well, to be sure. Most people are more interested in why Versace On The Floor did far worse than both. Versace On The Floor deserved so, SO much better than peaking at #33 and missing the Year-End list. It might be Bruno's best song, and that's saying something considering that I'm a big Bruno Mars fan (I own all of his albums, two of which I have on both CD and vinyl).

Never understood why That's What I Like was bigger than 24K Magic despite the latter being the lead single. 24K Magic is better There was one theory I heard, I don't know how true it is. "24k Magic"'s video was filmed in Las Vegas--that combined with the harder party lyrics repelled his older fanbase in the AC demo, because it reminded them of when he was busted for cocaine possession in LV back in 2010

We'll see about this. But if the thread is anything close to that long it's going to be a messy one. Don't know about that... Butter's #1 status won't be as messy as what happened with Life Goes On. BTS topping the Hot 100 is not really news to chart watchers anymore. The interesting angle will be, if Olivia does record breaking numbers on AM and Spotify with Good 4 U, but I don't think she will.

So Levitating was really the Hotline Bling of the weekly charts… Not really, the closest thing I can come up with to compare to Levitating is Ellie Goulding's Lights, which got blocked from #1 on its 34th week by Whistle in 2012. But that was more of the result of a slow climb, rather than a resurgence. Don't look now, but the next Levitating might already be here. Forever After All, which peaked and debuted at #2 in November, is on track to post a 20% gain in points in its 30th week on the charts. If FAA continues its resurgence, it might become the best comparison to Levitating.

Just stopping by to drop a 24K Magic >>> Uptown Funk take. The adlibs on the verses are just too much fun. I second this! I also prefer the production on "24K Magic" (the talk box in the intro gives me life), and the breakdown is much stronger and fun as well. I also love how Bruno mixed funk elements with crunk vibes in the verses, which makes it much more innovative than "Uptown Funk!". Both songs are top-tier tunes, don't get me wrong, but I never understood the comparisons.

It's hard to get a handle on how SOUR will perform on Spotify judging by it's Apple Music performance but so far, I think it's safe to say that Olivia is a much stronger artist on Spotify than on Apple Music so my guess is that her opening on Spotify will be better than it was on Apple Music.
I'd originally thought she'd be able to challenge Thank U, Next's Billboard 200 streaming record but I doubt she does (Thank U, Next had a much stronger showing on Apple Music upon release, scoring the highest global debut for any female artist in every genre ever and owning 12/13 spots [including the entire top 6 and #8-#13 positions] on US Apple Music within 24 hours of it's release. SOUR on the other hand, as at 19 hours after it's release, owns 11/17 spots on US Apple Music [including 3 spots in the top 5 and a total of 6 spots in the top 10]). My updated projection for SOUR's Billboard 200 streaming debut is now 235-285M streams. I'll make any necessary updates as the week goes by.

Go Olivia. Love her. I will finally have some free time today to spin her album but the three singles were A+.

So, will Blinding Lights die this week or will it barely survive again.

I'm ready for Blinding Lights to go tbh. Love the song and it's success but enough already*.
*: meaning it's a little annoying to see it on the chart still. Thanks to the streaming era I haven't actually heard the song in months (when I finally got tired of it after a year and removed it from my main playlist lol)

I think Weeks 76 and 77 are locked. If there is no major album release next Friday, BL should be able to make it a year and a half.

Blinding Lights' chances of exiting this week are gonna be cutting it close. Again, TOTC's now-deleted early predictions accidentally excluded a J. Cole song that had debuted last year but was on The Off-Season that's expected to return above BL. If Drivers License and 1-2 other songs manage to finish above it as well, it'll be gone. If it manages to hang on for another week, I think Olivia/BTS netting several entries above it should push it out, unless it gets a significant sales boost from the BBMAs.

If BL stays during the J Cole bomb week and majority of J cole tracks fall below it during the Olivia bomb week then it's safe. Let's wait for the spotify numbers today. In the mean time, Butter did 7M+ on radio yesterday. That's better than Dynamite i think.

We really need to start reading TOTC with a grain of salt.

We'll see how messy it is. I can't see a thread getting to be that long without some sort of messiness. It actually only gets messy because of people complaining about chart manipulation, regarding their sales. If people would let that go, things would be "normal".

I'm not so sure that track will return. Billboard set a precedence a few weeks ago when they did not allow Holy and Lonely to return to the Hot 100 during Justin's album release. Allowing that track to return to the charts will only continue to expose how inconsistent Billboard is with its rules. I'm far from a Justin fan, but I believe that rules should be applied consistently. Even so, Blinding Lights is predicted to be #22. Attachment Deleted

View AttachmentThe main reason Holy and Lonely did not return when Justice impacted the Hot 100 was because they had already gone recurrent after at least 20 weeks each on the charts and were no longer being promoted as current singles. (I disagree with Billboard's decision to exclude them that week, but that's a different story.) The Climb Back spent only 2 weeks on the Hot 100 last August, so it's eligible to come back.

We'll see how it goes. Billboard is nothing but consistently inconsistent with its rules and how they are enforced, after all.

Billboard's too inconsistent to even know what's going to happen Just a few months ago they randomly prevented Savage Love from Going recurrent despite it falling to #51 after 30 weeks. Out of all the songs ..... 😂
