^^Butter had more than triple the weekly global music video views than Good 4 U according to YouTube. YouTube is considered ad-supported. Billboard also filters out a lot of YouTube views, and not all views are ad-supported. If you have YouTube premium then you are contributing in premium streams.

One thing: Butter’s streams for the Global 200 don’t include programmed streams. Last week, that constituted 600,000 of its US total, so it’s probably 500,000-700,000 this week. D2C Sales also don’t count to the chart: we don’t know exactly how many there were this week, but its effective sales total is estimated to be below 30,000. In addition, and most critically, the formula for the Global charts favors streaming in a more revenue-reflective rate than the Hot 100, so Good 4 U’s able to press its streaming advantage further.

If we estimate 25k sales from the US, that would be around 121.5M streams and 61.6k sales on the global chart for butter. g4u was #1 with 109.5M streams and 17.6k sales.

If the Global charts do measure some stuff differently from the Hot 100, then it makes sense I guess. I thought the formula was the same across all three charts, which is why I thought Hot 100 + GlobalExclUS = Global Chart.

According to my calculations, for butter to lose the #1 spot it needed to have less than 70% of it's streams be premium. In the US alone, the premium stream rate is over 70%.

According to my calculations, for butter to lose the #1 spot it needed to have less than 70% of it's streams be premium. In the US alone, the premium stream rate is over 70%. That is indeed the case and then some. Based off of YouTube and Spotify revenue statistics, I estimate Butter to have approximately 15% of its streams as premium outside of the US, with the country added in bringing the percentage up to just 16%. In contrast, Good 4 U's split gives it about 44% of its streams being premium outside of the US, with the country added in upping that to 61%. Modeling it out, those circumstances are apt to provide clear cut results matching the announcement:

Serious question? Would Butter still be #1 if it had, say only like 5 million AI?

BTS fans should go for the record of Old Town Road :kii: they should. They've found such a massive loophole that literally anything can be accomplished with the right number of fans willing to spend $5 a week. That's really all it is. Have every fan buy 5 different versions a week, for $5. Would you spend $5 a week to get your fav to #1 knowing that it has a 90% chance? Of course. Again, such a massive loophole, I bet Taylor will take advantage to prevent any sort of Me! situation again. And honestly Katy should take advantage to give herself a better chance at even charting, lol.

Both cardigan and willow went #1 from this exact method.

If Tom McDonald can chart, surely Katy has enough stans left to massbuy her way into a Hot 100 entry, right?

Serious question? Would Butter still be #1 if it had, say only like 5 million AI? If AI was completely removed from every song on the chart, Butter would still be #1. Even if Butter just had all of it's radio removed, it would still most likely have a paper-thin lead on g4u. So, yes 5M AI would still be enough for #1.

What a saga that is. It's like a minor key variation of the Blinding Lights one, a testament to surviving El Perdon-style against the odds week after week in the lower reaches of the chart .

Difference is that it was fun to watch Blinding Lights and El Perdon because they weren't thuddingly terrible
Honestly even Talk You Out Of It looks like Chris Stapleton is comparison

Let's not go too far. "One Too Many" is a pretty mid song, but at least it isn't an unsettling version of "Versace On The Floor" with the woman being described as a 'grown man's dream' and the narrators wanting to 'talk her out' of her dress.

Oldest songs to chart in the Top 15 - updated
79 Blinding Lights, The Weeknd (#15, 6/19/2021) 75 Radioactive, Imagine Dragons (#13, 2/21/2014)
Also, keep in mind that BL, in its 79th week, charted higher than all 16 songs on the Lil Baby & Lil Durk album. Let that sink in for a moment.
