Yeah I don't mind DAKITI but I wished YO VISTO ASI or especially LA NOCHE DE ANOCHE had been the big(gest) songs of that album. I also wish Pero Ya No and Si Veo a Tu Mama had been hits in the US as well

I also wish Pero Ya No and Si Veo a Tu Mama had been hits in the US as well I think there was an attempt to push Yo Visto Asi but it just kind of... tanked. I remember watching the Kworb YouTube charts and seeing it go randomly up and down throughout weeks with a low amount of engagement - usually indicative of ads being used.

I like "telepatía" and "YONAGUNI". I promise you, you can like two songs in Spanish at once.

I remember people saying that latino music already peaked on US.

And get ready to stream Shakira, she's been on the studio since the start of the year. Don't let our Latin Pop Rock Queen flop. I'd really love to see her get one last US hit at least ("GIRL LIKE ME" did decently considering all factors, but still).

Also stream "MIENTEME" by Tini and Maria Becerra, and "QUE MAS PUES" by J Balvin and Maria Becerra. I swear, Maria is the next best thing in the Latin world.

I haven't been active on this forum but did people here really say that? The US has a huge Latino and Spanish-speaking population… Latin genres aren't peaking anytime soon. there just wasn't any huge Latin hit that would allow crossover impact on the Hot 100! Now we have three big ones: Yonaguni, Todo de ti, and Telepatía. it's a matter of a lack of big releases

I really like Todo De Ti, it’s very unique in Latin pop that isn’t generic reggaeton, even though I like Bad Bunny and Rosalia.

But to be fair. - it wasnt a popular opinion. -no one can see the future. - when i read it, Despacito and Mi Gente were huge hits recently and I Like It was builiding to become a monster hit so, then Taki Taki and MIA became streaming hits as well, maybe, some poeple thought that latino music was oversaturated in a short span of time.

Also while we're praising Latin music, I really hope ROSALÍA gets a hit of her own soon. I know her regular material is too art pop to crossover but Con Altura, Relación, and LA NOCHE DE ANOCHE showed she can do safe reggaetón easy and better than most reggaetón acts

If you really think about it, the whole Latin "explosion" in the late 10s was a little bit overblown, sure Latin hits were finally getting some well deserved recognition but those hits also had some well established names attached to it such as Justin Bieber, Beyonce, Cardi B and Drake, with the exception of Mi Gente which was a hit before Beyonce hopped on it, I doubt those songs would have been as big in the US without them.

I have no real problems with Latin music charting, so long as there's some quality to be found just like in any genre. I'm glad we're getting good songs like Dakiti, Telepatia, and Todo De Ti charting well in 2021. Especially after last year, where the only "Latin" song to be big enough to make the Year-End was f**king Ritmo.

Sure but had it not been for the English crossover, the audience for reggaeton wouldn't have grown to how it is now and we wouldn't have had songs entirely be in Spanish become big hits. The English remixes helped kick start the new popularity for reggaeton acts.

In Spanish speaking countries sure but I don’t think it’s big in the US, other than Bad Bunny and to a lesser extent J. Balvin and Daddy Yankee, reggaeton hasn’t been as big. Hopefully there’s a day where that time will come where it is one of the biggest genres without an English crossover but I don’t think that day is here yet.

Can I say something without you all being annoyed? I think the thing with popularity of latin music in the US is the same thing as with kpop in the US. You hear media keep talking about the latin explotion but in reality it's only Bad Bunny being big but western industry puts him in the box with all latin artists and it's then a group achievement instead of just his own. It's the same thing with kpop. You have max two groups being big and having any chart achievements but it's the whole kpop "taking over US". And then there are awards created just to seperate them from american artists so they would not feel threatened. Like grammys/bbma with best latin artist and other award shows creating best kpop artist.

You do bring up an interesting point. When individual artists of a particular genre or background hit massive mainstream popularity, even if they are the only ones (or at least the main ones) getting really big, there is often a tendency to celebrate the whole hidden iceberg of artists who are involved in the same community or context but who have not received the same degree of popularity or exposure. I personally do not mind this in the least, but it is worth recognizing that the visibility and popularity in these genres is by no means equal. The same thing happens, for example, when we speak of the recent rise of country music because a few acts (like Luke Combs) happen to receive streaming enough for high chart placement even when their songs do not crossover into pop radio.

I agree, you will hardly if ever see an act other than Bad Bunny and BTS chart as high as they do in their respective genres but like I said about reggaeton it can happen with K-pop too, both of them are opening the door for a US crossover in their respective genres it just might need time.

Speaking of Luke Combs, it’s going to be interesting to see if Forever After All can crossover. If I were Luke’s team, I’d probably do a remix with a more established artist. He’s got to strike while the iron is hot.

Billboard's streaming rules, especially how they treat YouTube views, heavily skews how Latin music is represented on the charts. K-pop is easily the dominant genre on social media platforms, but that's also hard to track on a Hot 100 songs chart. K-pop and reggaeton don't get a lot of pop radio so they're not represented on the Hot 100 lol

I don't think it will happen with kpop. Why? Because korean labels together with the western ones who are signing those artists wants to take a shortcut. Instead of taking time to gain fans and big enough fandom, they are jumping to make english songs/albums/doing american promotions without any fundaments. They are nt even trying to gain recognizon in Korea or Japan first. They just want BTS level of success right away. I think with latin music is kind of different. Mostly because of big latin community in the U.S. I'm pretty sure there's gonna be more big latin artists other than Bad Bunny because of this. It would be easier if they try and sing in english like Shakira did but even in spanish they will make more noise than those kpop groups.

I can totally see for instance Kelly Clarkson doing a duet with Luke Combs - it would benefit both.

There are many other possibilities as well.

How is Love Again doing on the charts (if any)? Is it just going to be another music video like the After Hours ones?

Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee, J Balvin, KAROL G, Maluma and ROSALÍA have had a lot of success in recent years stateside, to varying degrees. Ozuna, Tainy, Anuel AA, Sech and Kali Uchis have also charted recently. Throw in some Latin acts like JLo and Selena that aren't really killing it with their material in Spanish, but they're also part of the genre. It's not just Bad Bunny. And some platforms like Youtube are dominated by Latin acts (and in the case of Youtube, K-Pop) right now. YHLQMDLG was by some measures one of the biggest albums of 2020, but stuff like "TUSA", "Hawai" and "RITMO" also had impact on the charts.
