Not sure I like this. Iβd prefer if Doja just whole-heartedly promoted KMM, and not put out intermediate singles every few weeks.

Isn't this pretty usual behavior when trying to promote a new album, though?

The Latin explosion of the late 90s was a pretty big deal when it was underway and lasted for a few years, but at the same time, it did feel like a trend at the time so when it deflated significantly for the next change in sound, it felt expected. This time around, it doesnβt feel like a trend because it feels more gradual and, aside from the bigger bits like Despacito, also somewhat under the radar. The hits keep coming with varying degrees of success. Iβd say Latin pop hits are here for the long run.

This time around, it doesnβt feel like a trend because it feels more gradual and, aside from the bigger bits like Despacito, also somewhat under the radar. The hits keep coming with varying degrees of success. Iβd say Latin pop hits are here for the long run. A large part of that, I think, depends on the fact that contemporary latin pop hits have their own infrastructure, be it a base of solid support on streaming, as well as a wide variety of Spanish language radio stations that consistently play popular songs. Whether or not these songs crossover, they have a consistent appeal that gets them regularly onto the Hot 100 charts or at least close to it, even when there is no popular English-language remix. That difference in the state of the overall infrastructure of the Latin pop genre between now and the late 90's is the biggest difference to me. While crossover appeal can turn a song into a massive hit (see Despacito, etc.), even without crossover such songs can achieve consistent and considerable success, and even the occasional YE spot, which is a sign that such music is indeed here to stay for a good while.

I'm not even sure if Doja is an official single. She dropped something the other Friday (5/28), but not an official single. This might be something similar.

I think I read on Doja's album thread (or Twitter, I don't remember) that she plans to drop two promo singles (this is likely the first one, then), and the official full radio backed second single is gonna be the collaboration with The Weeknd that will drop with the album. "Kiss Me More" is here to stay.

I can see them pushing the Drake, Cardi, Juice WRLD and Pop Smoke collab as singles.

Youβll roll your eyes, but I was starting to get tired of the dembow drum pattern in most Latin hits (reggaeton is so dominant). Iβm glad βTodo De Tiβ is switching it up. At least some recent hits like βDΓ‘kitiβ that have used the pattern have made some unexpected production choices

this is why I appreciate rappers like J Cole more, those A-list collabs are pointless.

^^^ Yeah I agree. It's a way for people to pay attention to their new music and fight to stay relevant. (I'm still gonna listen though lol)

Artists like Lil Baby, Gunna, Young Thug, Roddy Ricch and DaBaby could have easily been on the album as well. It's their first album in 3 years, you really thought they'd have 0 features? Come on.

Is Migos still relevant though? Feels to me like their time has passed, but it's also been a long while since they actually dropped... we'll see. The Drake collab will ensure they have a top 30 entry at the very least.
Rolling my eyes at the Vaccine song already lol.

Iβm not sure why Polo G is gonna be on the new Migos album when he already has an entire album of his own coming out on the exact same day. I doubt this will be a conflict of interest for him or his fans, but it just strikes me as an odd choice.

Let's keep talking about Kali Uchis and telepatia so they're the artist of the week

Really hope Kali Uchis would get another hit in the future. The rise of telepatia is one of better chart events this year.

Whats the point of tweeting this? If it smashes its gonna be a single This just looks like an excuse in case it flops/gets overshadowed this song is unlikely to be pushed to radio at all, and might not get playlist support on streaming etc. she's announcing it so that people know this is a promo single. she'll be dropping another one next week, with the album coming on 6/25. the "next important single" is called "You Right" and features The Weeknd, and will be released alongside Planet Her. "Kiss Me More" is still smashing so I'm expecting them to push that over to #1 during album release week, while getting the next single to launch in the Top 10.

Honestly iβm not sure if The Weeknd would help with the song. He pulls in little to no numbers on the hot 100 as a featured artist nowadays, as is the same situation with Post Malone and Ed Sheeran.
