That TSTWUTMLT rankings with all those last places mixed with multiple top5's is so funny lol I can't help but to find it catchy!
also I'm so shocked my #1 is still in it lol. I had an impression it would be gone a long time ago.

I never have, and probably never will, understand the hate "That Song That We Used to Make Love To" gets. Probably the best song off of Cry Pretty, barring maybe "Low" which is also superb. The biggest problem is probably that it is designed to cater to literally everybody aside from country fans (aka the bulk of her actual fanbase, lol). This might have some appeal to pop fans and people who want her to keep pushing in the multi-genre direction, but there is literally nothing here for people who fell in love with "Wasted" Carrie. It's not evolution, it's literally just something completely different.

Yay, I'm glad that people are starting to show up and comment! For some reason, "Kingdom" is a song that I always enjoy more when I am actually listening to it than I always think I will when I picture it in my head. The choir is a really nice touch, especially in that climactic moment when they enter the song for the first time by suddenly singing "This is our kingdom" with her at the end of the second chorus. It made for a really epic and effective interlude/transition piece in her Cry Pretty tour. Still not one of my go-to songs from Cry Pretty, but definitely one that I have come to enjoy more with time.

"Clock Don't Stop" has admittedly always been a huge guilty pleasure for me. From the moment I heard it, I loved it and have been puzzled by the hate that it seemed to get when the Storyteller album was current. I love the verse melody in particular. It's so simple on the surface, but I find it really catchy in its simplicity.
In light of said hate that this one has always received, I am actually really happy with how well this did here! Nobody loses a top 5, but the majority of us did put it in our top 15! This is a win in my book!

This is a bit of a decline from this song finishing at #10 in Carrie's Extras rankdown that just wrapped up. However, that is to be expected considering that album track rankdowns are typically more stacked in the quality department than Extras rankdowns are Either way, its performance in both rankdowns can be seen as a huge improvement from when it finished at last place in the album rankdown! Tbh, "The Champion" has grown on me SO MUCH!! Back when it first came out I thought it was like the worst thing she had ever put out, but through the years the catchiness has started to seep into my perception of the song

Glad to see a bunch of garbage leave in the last round, namely those awful Blown Away duds and the outright mess that is "That Song That We Should've Left Off The Album."

Can’t believe “That Song That Shall Never Be Named” made it almost clear into the Top 20. What the hell?! I’m all for experimenting (I have been a vocal defender of Kacey’s new album for instance), but this is a science experiment gone wrong. Trial and error is a thing for a reason.
Also heartbroken to see “Little Girl” leave when it deserved much better. That song makes me cry harder and harder the older I get. I relate too hard to each and every line of that song.
“Thank God for Hometowns” has grown on me as well over the years, again due to newfound relatability.

Glad that "Clock Don't Stop" made it to the top20 at least! I think I relate to what bboat11 said about "Kingdom". I don't listen to it very often but I really like the song if listen and just pay attention to it. It's my #10 even though I know listened to it less than a few songs that missed my top10.

Since people been posting, how about we keep going!!! "The Girl You Think I Am" had a much different trajectory than what we have seen up to this point. In contrast to some of the songs we've lost, this song had a horrible start! It was a consistent bottom 6-7 contender for nearly the entire first half of the submission process...before the love suddenly started pouring in and helped push it up to the top half! bigd79 is the only one who loses a top 5 here, but 6 additional top 10s helped give this one its climbing power in the end. I do like this one! It being as low as it is is an effect of how much I usually like Carrie's output. This is a nice relaxing listen, although it does tend to be a bit on the forgettable side from its album. That's how it ended up being low-ish on my list.

I shared in the 1990 Country Rankdown why songs like this just tend not to grab me…the utter lack of relatability is why I just couldn’t put this song anywhere outside of my bottom 3.

Perhaps it's because I watched her on Idol, when she did a variety of different genres not just country, but I like when she deviates from the country sound on her albums. Although, that could also be due to me not being a huge country music fan myself.

Had Faith Hill recorded them, they’d be right at home on Cry. They’re also vastly superior songs

Although, that could also be due to me not being a huge country music fan myself. Well songs like "Starts With Goodbye" and "That's Where It Is" are firmly rooted in pop country at least. They are completely in line with what somebody like Faith Hill/Martina McBride/LeAnn Rimes/Sara Evans could have sang and had huge hits with about the same time Carrie was starting out. Like sure they're not Hank Williams country by any means, but the delivery is country, the instruments are all real, and they are squarely within the accepted sounds of the genre at the time. "That Song" has no sonic comparison to anything else within the careers of any of those people that I listed, the careers of any of her modern country female peers, or even within the career of Carrie herself, lol. It's basically its own unique species. The path from Hank Williams to "That's Were It Is" is a natural evolution of country music that makes sense if you look at the whole path from beginning to end. While there really is no path from Hank Williams to "That Song", lol. The path to "That Song" would probably start from somewhere in the pop/R&B world.

The Cry album was pushing the line in the 2000s WAY further than Carrie's debut was. They'd be the countriest songs on that album by a mile! Lol. A song like "That's Where It Is" would have been at home on Faith or Breathe, and had a chance of being a huge hit with no qualms from country radio whatsoever!

I am pleasantly surprised with how well "Change" did here! I remember being a bit surprised to realize that this is one of the more hated tracks on Play On. I think the delivery of "You're just a fool, just a fool" in the chorus is really engaging and powerful. I love the way Carrie sounds on this song. Granted, I can 100% see why some might find this to be preachy or something. But this would be a case where I like a song for its melody regardless of what the lyrics are. This didn't get as many high ranks as some of the songs we have seen lately, although it does have a top 2 from .indulgecountry and a top 3 from castleoblivion26. But it also has less ranks in the 20s, which allowed it to be a fairly constant competitor to land right in the middle of the list. I wasn't aware that ClevelandRox was against being compassionate and showing charity towards the needy, but alas he finally loses his last place here ;)

That trajectory's going to make fans of this song very sad, lmao. "Sometimes You Leave" was a legitimate top 2 contender for about the first 1/3 of the rankdown, was a strong top 5 contender for a little more than half, and was a top 10 contender for the entire time once it left the top 5....until the last trio of lists I was admittedly shocked as hell that this was doing as well as it was in the beginning, if only because this is a bonus track and those always have a huge uphill battle in rankdowns because they're less known! That being said, these rankdowns are always nice when they give you some good surprises, so this song was fun to watch!! And I have definitely started to pay more attention to it and take it more seriously upon seeing how passionate some were about it :)

I think we can all share in being absolutely deceased that "Cupid's Got A Shotgun" managed to come in LAST PLACE in the Blown Away album...only to be the highest album track here, and actually be within a respectable margin of making the top 10! I have no idea how the opinion on this song shifted so drastically, especially considering that our participation list hasn't really changed all that significantly from when we did Carrie's album rankdowns. Nevertheless, it has happened, so here we are.
This one and "Leave Love Alone" were the immediately unlistenable tracks for me when Blown Away came out, and I will admit this one has grown on me a LOT since then. I'd probably be more likely to seek this one out now than "Thank God For Hometowns", at the very least.
I think my biggest problem with this song is that everything about it feels completely mismatched with the style of the song. The arrangement and Carrie's vocal performance are both really heavy, on a song that is supposed to be lighthearted and fun. When I picture an ideal version of this song, it has an arrangement similar to something like Reba's "Nothin' To Lose" or "I'll Have What She's Having", on her 2009 Keep On Loving You album. I know that that is an oddly specific sound, lmao 😂 But if you listen to those the arrangement is intricate but the production still gives it a lot of breathing room, and that allows the whimsicality of some of the lyrics to come to life. Of course Reba is a much more engaging uptempo vocalist than Carrie, so maybe that has a big part of it too.
Anyway, that's my two cents. I feel like this is a song that has a lot of unreached potential.
With this reveal, Blown Away is officially the first regular album to be eliminated!

As I said a couple of times here, I did not expect my #1 (which now I can say it's Cupid's Got a Shotgun) to go this far at all!
so I'm more than fine with it being #12 and I'm glad other people feel the same way about it as I do! such a fun song and it's for sure one of the songs that I listened to the most out of this rankdown!
