I see this going about as far as homecoming queen?. I just don't think it's what radio is wanting, especially after two stellar singles.

I actually think that coming off of two massive hits isn’t always a good thing. Because that means it’s competing for airplay with two songs that have already been smashes and radio loves. This one is doing good imo as gabby is still a new artist and radio won’t let this peak until next spring/ summer. Yet another similarity between the two, I know, but I instantly think of Carrie Underwood. "Don't Forget to Remember Me" had to come off a massive crossover hit (JTTW) and before a massive crossover hit (BHC), and while it still did fine on its own, it likely had to compete for airplay with those two songs as well, and is now largely forgotten in the context of the Some Hearts era. Even "Wasted" is at least instantly recognizable to most people; but for DFTRM it always takes a minute if it clicks at all. I bet Gabby's gonna have the same problem with this one down the line--it'll do fine on its own, but I have yet to hear it on my local station and still hear nothing but "I Hope" and "The Good Ones," meaning that FOTM is facing an uphill battle with those two, and will likely be forgotten by the general public years from now, unlike "I Hope" and TGO. tl;dr: "Footprints on the Moon" is likely Gabby Barrett's "Don't Forget to Remember Me" Ugh dont remind me about DFTRM. Truly her most forgotten single. Deserved to smash harder than it did. But I do agree. I think this was only released to buy her time for her next album, even if it doesn’t move the needle like her first two singles. I say they ride it till the end of the year and evaluate. If it looks like it has potential to go the distance then stay with it, but if it’s not looking good, move onto a lead single. I think this one will be fine though it’s still relatively early.

I could see this being top 15. At some point the label may settle just to release new music

^ tbh I hate it. Country radio is too damn slow at converting songs for artist that aren’t Luke Combs. I was being sarcastic though. This trend makes me lose interest faster.

How far along was "The Good Ones" by this point? Just curious for comparison sake, because I know it still took basically a full year for even it to blossom into a hit, even though it was connecting out of the gate even more than "Footprints" has been so far. Expecting this to eventually hit, but even if it ultimately underperforms, she's in a good spot to smash with brand new music once she finally delivers some. "Footprints On The Moon" impacted 6/28/21 and 7 weeks later (last Monday's chart) is at #58. "The Good Ones" impacted 6/8/20 and 7 weeks later was at #50.

WAR sent an "alternate" version of "Footprints on the Moon" to country radio this morning, but I'm having a very hard time deciphering the difference between it and the original. The alternate version is three seconds shorter and maybe some extra strings in the mix? lol

Sound like they tried to add more twang to it. I hear some banjo at the beginning now and throughout the song.
Seems pointless to me why they did this because I don't really think there was nothing wrong with the song in the first place.

It puts the song back on programmers' minds, seeing it in their inbox again. Plus, an alternate version usually offers something different, even though the difference is minimal here. The label is hoping this one gets going soon and this is usually a tactic to help with that.

Well, I hope it starts to take off soon although my hopes of this being big are pretty much gone as it's failing to connect on streaming and sales I know they'll rise as the airplay increases, but I just don't see it doing any sort of big numbers like her previous singles.

She filmed a video for this but not sure it will help.

This is country radio in 2021, and her other two songs are just incredibly massive. It might not be until the summer of 2089 2022, but this song will still do just fine. A #1, maybe not, but a Top 5 finish will be nothing to sneeze at after a debut and second single that were both massive in every regard, and still are to this day.

Was just coming here to post it, but y’all beat me lol. Great video; tells her story of wanting to be able to make it as a singer. Anyone else think she looks very much like Carrie in this video?

That might be my favorite video by her yet. Gabby is a amazing artist and has a long career ahead. I really hope footprints on the moon can at least get to top 20 before a lead off to album number two. Of course this chart run is slow

Simple enough concept for the video, but I enjoyed the story arc from a young girl playing guitar in her bedroom to Gabby getting her pics snapped by the paparazzi, and she looked stunning throughout. The giant moon backdrop with the dim lighting on her was a cool look.

I'm still so in love with this song. Musically it's gorgeous, the lyrics are great, and Gabby sounds fantastic on it. I think the video perfectly captured the essence of the song. This song is too good for radio.

This is interesting. Gabby did a IG live. She was asked about new music. She said soon and it might be more then one song. Said she is very excited for them.

Anyone know if this one is close to debuting on the top 50 on Mediabase. Kind of was hoping it would have debuted by now.

I'd assume it's close, but it doesn't seem to be making any sort of big gains each week (not surprising considering it's doing nothing on streaming or sales).

I actually looked and it looks like this song hasn't gotten any adds on Mediabase the past 4 weeks and is only on 67 stations. It's never a good sign when a song in the 50s and lower isn't pulling in any adds especially for multiple weeks in a row.
Honestly if things don't turn around in November it might be wise for Warner to just cut bait on this and release a lead single as it seems like this song is going nowhere in a hurry.

If they end up pulling the plug on it I think they should wait until next year for Gabby's sophomore rollout. I think there needs to be more time to let "The Good Ones" and "I Hope" die down more.
Given this isn't connecting at all on streaming or sales, I don't even get why Warner continues to push it when Ingrid Andress'"The Stranger" was in a similar situation where it wasn't connecting all that well and yet Warner pulled the plug almost immediately and now that Ingrid actually has a song that's showing signs of connecting, Warner isn't even pushing it...

Yeah as much as I’m hating it I think they’ll need to pull the plug on this one. Ride it till the end of the year then drop it and have something new in February/March.
This one feels like what we saw with “To Hell & Back” last year where radio was more content spinning the big hit than giving the new song a chance. It’s worse in Gabby’s case considering that it’s competing for airplay with two of her own big hits, not just one. I think she’ll probably be fine in the long run I hear The Good One and I Hope all the time just probably need to let those wear off even more considering how big they both were.
