Pandora streams haven't really been a huge indicator for the hot 100 success like Apple and Spotify have been recently. It doesn’t matter, they’re still used and measured by Billboard. The question was about relevance, not use.

I don’t think anybody noted this but this week was the first week that a song from SOUR dropped out of the Hot 100 with 1 step forwards, 3 steps back exiting.

I think it got mentioned; I remember seeing something about it at least, but it would be hard to say exactly where because it was just a little blip in the usual discussion.

This whole thing reminds me of when Harlem Shake had some crazy big weeks at #1 despite very clearly not being the number one song in the country. (A YouTube craze with 30 second videos is not equal to being the biggest song if no one listens to the song in full) I think that song blocked “Thrift Shop” from quite a few extra weeks at #1 too.

I'll be glad when this discussion thread is closed, although I have no doubt the lingering issue will continue until Butter is no longer #1 ... The more I look at it, I'm amazed at how the Lil Baby/Lil Durk album chart thread (6/19) only got to 21 pages. Either we skipped over the issue that week, the album had very little impact, or a combination of both. I mean, we had 2 weeks (6/12 and this week) that had nothing going for it, and we still got into the upper 20s of pages. what are the updated thread stats?

And don’t forget the One More Night/Gangnam Style fiasco just before that. One More Night got the weeks at #1, even though it felt GS was the bigger song.

I was following the charts then but don’t remember. Was it before YouTube counted or something?

Had streaming been included in the Hot 100 Formula back in 2012, "Gangnam Style" would have probably ended up spending double digit weeks at #1. So yeah it just ran into really bad timing. We should be glad that streaming started counting for the Hot 100 in 2013 or else the BTS Army would probably have wanted to mass buy "Butter" until they could break PSY's record of most weeks at #1 on the Hot 100 for a K-Pop song. So yeah we all got lucky in that regard.

Per wiki, streaming WAS counted starting March 2012. Gangnam was #1 in sales and streams a bunch.
But Youtube was not, so Night's radio got to overpower that.
The last time a song doubled atop Streaming/Sales, but never made it to #1 overall was Cold Water, blocked by radio superpower Cheap Thrills.

Gangnam Style was #1 streaming for 6 weeks and sales for 6 weeks
Different weeks though
Streaming around June 2013 Digital around November 2012
1st streaming chart was January 2013 (4 months after this song was released)
For the Blinding Lights fan in the audience, Gangnam Style stayed on the streaming chart for a still record 122 weeks even still

There's still a few hours time to get this properly to something close to 30 pages. What a mess this summer has been so far.
