I’d also say part of the blame is on Billboard for having a formula that counts website sales (and weighs heavily sales in general), while not counting UGC, which makes it easier for BTS stans to steal extra weeks at #1, or even artists like Travis Scott to score illegitimate #1’s with Franchise. Billboard could make a few tweaks like bring back UGC and downweigh sales or remove website sales altogether to make it harder for sales heavy songs to get higher positions than they deserve on the charts. Here's my question. Is the Hot 100 meant to be a REVENUE chart or a popularity chart? If the latter then they need to adjust formulas. But if it's what song is making the most money for its label then I would assume BTS songs are raking in the most money week on week for their label, which is what the industry would care most about. No, even if it's a revenue chart, Billboard's formula is off. Relative to what the RIAA deems stream equivalence, Billboard weighs sales about double. Rolling Stone is close to RIAA's standard, and on their song chart (which includes at least digital D2C), Good 4 U has kept Butter at bay so far.

If it were meant to be a revenue chart, it would be an American revenue chart and the money in question is not American. When people were mass buying in the 90s, someone wasn't flying from a foreign country every week to buy physicals at a store.

Gotta love the fake "Pulse said he's flopping" comments. He literally just had a huge #1. Anyone that said he was freefalling was not worthy of attention. Oh yeah. They were thinking he was gonna flop because the way Changes sonically played out. I get "Yummy" was a mess, but "Intentions" gave a lil more hope for future singles 🤣🤣

Wasnt Justin Bieber on frefall according to the general concensus of Pulse? Lmao He loves to prove Pulse wrong. Score that hit King. Peaches hit just cuz of the current music climate we in...those other singles were pretty hit or miss. Peaches hit because it's a tasty summer jam with incredible vocal performances. Never been a fan of Biebs, but I gotta hand it to him, that was a well-deserved number-one (in my opinion).
Also, lots of interesting discussion points in this thread: - IMO Billie's doing fine commercially. I think people forget that Billie's singles have unusual chart runs (early singles percolating by the bottom of the chart or high peaks with big drops and consistently mid-charting). Perhaps "Bad Guy" and "Everything I Wanted" made people forget that. Also, I think it'll be another critical success.
- I am really surprised that "Transparent Soul" isn't rocketing up the charts considering how well it's doing on streaming and Alternative radio. Curious as to why CHR isn't servicing that track.
- It'll be interesting to see where the BTS singles fall this week.
- Perhaps Bo Burnham will reach the Hot 100 this week???

No, even if it's a revenue chart, Billboard's formula is off. Relative to what the RIAA deems stream equivalence, Billboard weighs sales about double. Rolling Stone is close to RIAA's standard, and on their song chart (which includes at least digital D2C), Good 4 U has kept Butter at bay so far. "good 4 u" has also kept "Botter" at bay on that SPS chart that Billboard compiles (or is it just Nielsen? idk). It's just that sales are weighed too heavily on the actual Hot 100. Yeah Sales do need to be weighted very differently then they are now in order to lessen the influence that Stans have on the Chart, The Sales weight is really Outdated and needs a Major Adjustment to accurately reflect what Songs are really the most Popular ones of the Week.

Probably discussed already, but will MEBF survive another week? When it finally falls, what will become its rightful surpass-all-expectations-for-pop-punk-on-the-charts-in-2021-heir*, and why is it t r a n s p a r e n t s o u l?
*Other than Olivia, cause she’s in a league of her own above any other pop-punk influenced stuff atm

The vinyls are going to push Blinding Lights above of Rapstar, LTDO, and Peaches for the first time next week. I wouldn't even be surprised if BL charts above SYT on the 7/31 chart.

You've mentioned these vinyls a couple of times now, mind pointing out both which listing is being referred to and an official notice about them shipping between the 17th and 23rd? I can't find any corroborating information myself.

Not sure if they'll all count as last week, or they'll be split between this week or last week.

Post sounds out of touch and unaware on the deceptively titled 'Motley Crue'
an almost comical, complete waste of a comeback
i expect this to be a one-off, a non-album single followed by an abbreviated re-hiatus
forgettable, but ironically too notable of a failure to be truly forgotten

oof at Motley Crew debuting outside the top 10
hopefully it is just a throwaway for a documentary and not the debut single for a new era

So glad that Motley Crew is not a lead single for his next album. That would be a step back in his evolution as an artist.

Stay deserves more than a #4 debut. Maybe it can beat bts for the 7/31 chart. it's only a few points behind g4u.

Yeah Sales do need to be weighted very differently then they are now in order to lessen the influence that Stans have on the Chart, The Sales weight is really Outdated and needs a Major Adjustment to accurately reflect what Songs are really the most Popular ones of the Week. There will always be ways to manipulate figures, whether by artists or fans. Mass streaming, for example. The reason though mass streaming isn't as effective in gaming the charts is that Spotify actively filters out streams. If you buy streams or bot them or just leave songs on a loop for hours, Spotify will filter them out and they won't count. There are ways to still game streams but it just isn't as effective as mass buying. This is why ARMYs buy instead of stream

Streams are way harder to manipulate than sales.
If sales were made 1 copy per song per person per week, no, ARMY wouldn't be able to 'find a way around it'. They'd pretty much never be #1 after the first week again. If sales were divided by 10, and not 5, to match actual consumption that Billboard uses, they'd never even see the #1 spot ever again. They could probably still score #1 debuts with the /5 divisor. I'm not sure how other countries like the UK weigh sales on their charts though.
On the Hot 100, you need 6,000 paid streams to match 24 sales, which is not feasibly possible with streaming caps and a life; that's more than 48 hours of CONSTANT 30 second-only streams even if they all counted. A whole week of incessant streaming if the song was on a realistic repeat (not repeating after 30s). Spending days continuously streaming to match 24 sales which can be bought in under 1 minute from the store using international money just isn't equivalent in any way.
Spotify was confirmed to only count 10 streams per day for their charts (and the number is the same as what's counted for Billboard's charts). YouTube's cap is 50. So if one ARMY has Spotify, their limit is 70 paid streams and 350 free (maybe paid if they're willing to also pay for YT Premium). A far cry from 6,000 paid streams, that's for certain (just 7% the impact per person, even fulfilling all streaming caps and paying for both services each week!). To be clear, that limit is per version of a song, so if they accumulate these streams over 10 versions, that's getting close. But again, it's infeasible, and if Billboard changed the sales bulk rules, they might concurrently change the streaming bulk rules too. Rendering any attempt at manipulation completely ineffective.
Plus, even if they were streaming that much, at least they are listening to the song by doing so (although they'd probably put it on low volume on some device in another room to not go insane).

I feel like with streaming making up as much 85% of how all music is consumed in the US and with the continued decline of pure sales (even with vinyl sales steadily rising over the last few years), it should go without saying that streaming should be weighed heavier than it currently is. It's extremely hard to pull upwards of 100 million streams in a week with an album. 200 million streams is even harder and 300 million streams is damn near impossible for over 90% of the artists in the music industry (for reference, there are currently only 15 weeks where at least 1 album pulled up to 300 million streams on the Billboard 200. Drake has 3 of those weeks, Post Malone, Lil Uzi Vert and J. Cole each 2 of those weeks. Lil Wayne, Juice WRLD, Travis Scott, Kendrick Lamar, Ariana Grande and Olivia Rodrigo each have 1 week). The way things stand currently, managing to have your album amass 300 million streams in a single week won't earn you up to 250K units. That makes no sense to me. It's gotten even harder now to have an album garner enough units for a Platinum certification because pure sales are dead and streaming, despite growing every year, hasn't seen any change in how it's weighed to make up for the massive decline in pure sales.

Wtf at Without You being #1 on callouts and the remix with Miley at that Mediabase is for some reason crediting the Miley remix (probably a label decision), but make no mistake, the original solo version is getting the majority of airplay. Just one of those weird instances of nonsensical credits from Mediabase. Much like BTS was suddenly credited in "Savage Love" even though there's no way that remix was getting more than like 10% of the song's total airplay.

I'm not a regular radio listener but the one day I listened to the radio couple weeks ago, I heard the Miley Cyrus remix. (I also heard the Ariana Grande remix of "Save Your Tears" like 4 times within a couple hours, lol. the solo version did come on once as well.) I also know that's completely anecdotal and doesn't reflect national airplay totals. (I know labels can just tack on artist names on Mediabase as soon as the remix drops, but I wonder if there's a chance the Miley Cyrus remix might be getting more spins at this point?)
