All imma say is, the people that are LIVING for the Army ruining the charts better be welcoming Morgan Wallens inevitable comeback single at number one. It probably would've gotten there with streaming alone but it'll have over 100k sales easily, if that song from last week is any indicator, and those'll be LEGIT sales too. s**t it'll probably have even more tbh People forget that Morgan’s album was very stable in Weeks 1-4 before the incident, and based on what Sour is doing now, would have probably been stable for several more weeks if the incident never happened. Morgan’s team needs to push Sand In My Boots very soon.

The sad truth is that 'Sand In My Boots' is a great song and the perfect sort of 'please take me back' cut that's primed to do well, especially as he'll absolutely get the radio push.
As for our current #1 predicament, I have to wonder if 'Industry Baby' falls short of #1 what will happen. If it's at all close and we have Columbia effectively competing against themselves - their distribution deal vs. their "homegrown" act - that's the sort of thing that sparks a quiet mutiny among staff and promoters, to say nothing of what Lil Nas X chooses to air out.

It pains me to think of how chart position is viewed as being within the power of the artist themselves to ensure, as if three hundred odd million other people did not have something to do with it.

seems like the only way to dethrone BTS would be an organized mass buying campaign of another song?

#40 on Streaming & #1 on Hot 100. Let’s see if this exits the Streaming chart completely while #1 at this point. Nah, I think Industry Baby has the #1 locked next week, so fortunately, we won’t have to deal with that crap. The BoTS are mad because the CEO of Columbia is supporting Lil Nas. They will block him.

Let's make this clear: If Billboard changes their rules regarding non-digital-storefront sales within the next month or so, it'll be because Columbia finally caved and decided that it's not worth propping up an act with bad streaming stats and bad radio callouts whose fans consistently manipulate the charts via website sales in favor of acts on their own label who have much broader appeal from the industry and general public (i.e. The Kid LAROI and Lil Nas X). And that will especially be apparent if Industry Baby gets blocked from the #1 and Lil Nas X calls attention to it (though I question how much he can really say publicly about BTS' tactics because they're labelmates, and he even collaborated with RM on an OTR remix). Part of me wants Industry Baby and Stay to be blocked because Columbia was enjoying BTS being #1 for all these 9 weeks but now that they will block 2 of their own artists they will taste their own medicine. I'm sure a label prefers multiple of their artists to be #1.

Billboard just needs 1 little rule change, artists web stores should follow the same rules that apply to iTunes (you can only buy a song once, if you try to re-buy iTunes does not allow it)... you can buy alt versions but not the same version. Thats the difference right now. The BTS webstore allows you to buy infinite times the same sing, which shouldn't be allowed.
Be smart Billboard.
Thats an easy solution and a realistic one too. Obviously no one can tell if a purchase is bough by a fan with his own $ or with money from the Army or money from the label.

Each time a certain group reaches #1, do those fans experience a Big O for the next 7 days? I mean, really, what's the thrill? And if it does last that long, perhaps it's worth a try!

1-7-1 and 1-7 runs. How ORGANIC and NATURAL! Especially that #40 streaming position. Iconic. Congrats to BTS on their 8th* week at number-one.
And their 5 number ones.*

The label should also be the one to blame since they are the ones who release alternate copies of the same song.

If we did it this way, I wonder how many of the 2020 #1’s would have asterisks on them. Let’s start with The Scott’s, Stuck With U, Franchise, and the many other one-week #1’s that I’m forgetting.

What's funny is that a certain group could actually have 21 total #1s by the end of 21 - if the group members channeled their self-funding towards a different song each week.
Step 1: Pick a song in the catalog. Step 2: Release special editions to get multiple copy purchasing. Step 3: Focus streaming campaigns on the 'song of the week' Step 4: Release a 'special version' of the video.
It's not THAT hard, but since they're not savvy enough to figure this out - You're Welcome! Now get to work.
