You guys hate and lack of judgement when it comes to slaming bts is showing I cant imagine a US artist being under tbis amount of scrutinity and people thinking its ok and twisting the narrative so the artist is in the wrong. Read the fucking article, and also read other articles billboard wrote about bts before shiting your pants with fear of a partnership Yall are pathetic. That article is a disrespect towards an artist. Do they ask Dua about how she feels about being on the top 10 till this day because of radio? Or did they ask olivia how she felt about being on top of every playlist on spotify and the promo the platform did for her? Because the same day butter was coming out she was the cover of the korean New music friday playlist. Anyway, everything we say here is always disregard as crazy fans so I dont even know why I bother. Go on, I guess.

Simple: those actually require millions of people to engage. If being on the big playlists was all it took to have a hit, then Camila Cabello, dhruv, Blxst, Elton John, Maneskin's "I Wanna Be Your Slave", and Shouse should all be in the top 40, but they're not: playlists' impacts are overstated and the ones that actually become hits still require active engagement to stand out from the crowd. If being played highly on radio was so out of step with the general public's tastes, then the stations engaging in such would suffer in the periodic recalibrations, but they haven't. In fact, one of the few songs that was trying to force that scenario was "Butter": its pop scores and net positive scores were consistently bottom of the pack on Top 40 station callout reports, but it still took a month and change for it to begin being dropped. Sales, by comparison, only requires a few thousand people to get a song very far. Last week, less than 4,000 people drove over 45,000 sales of "Butter"'s 55,000 total. That's over 9,000 chart points, almost half of the 19,800 it was estimated to have last week (more than half when you factor in the rest of the sales that were supplied by ~10,000 people total), and the ratio was even more sales-heavy when the song was actively being pushed to #1 like it will be next week.

A like 80% sure this is a meg dupe or at least someone who's seen meg's screenshots, but I'm leaning towards the former because the "Olivia was on the cover of the Korean NMF playlist the same day Butter was out." was exactly what meg said

I'm not entirely sure the purpose of mass buying for the remix. Given how popular the group is, it'd probably go back to #1 without the extra push.

With how strong Stay is, I doubt Butter is going back to #1. Maybe #2, but Butter is weakening on radio and is at a 50M aud disadvantage to Stay, which is very strong in streaming. That means Butter needs to make up the gap with sales, and even there, Stay is holding strong with 10k+ each week. The only thing that can stop Stay is a WAP/Dynamite like debut, not a song that’s been out for months, declining on radio, and has already made a run at the top.

Assuming the remix doesn't give the song a solid streaming boost or stop the hemorrhaging on radio, it still doesn't take that many copies to take #1 from Stay. 155k is perfectly within Army's wheelhouse, I wouldn't bet against them on this one.

The only thing that can stop Stay is a WAP/Dynamite like debut Stay has a nice lead over #2 but it’s no WAP or Dynamite. If Ed decided to drop a high profile remix for Bad Habits last Friday i feel like it’d be in striking range for #1 right now

So Billboard exposed BTS Army's mass-buying tactic as a chart manipulation, Armys got mad and cancelled Billboard, stopped giving them the views & clicks. Then Armys will mass-buy Butter (Remix) to get to #1 on Billboard again, the company they try to cancel, thus giving them the views & clicks again. This could go on and on.
I just hoped that since Billboard already took advantage of BTS, they can finally fix their chart, now that we atleast know they are aware of the "manipulation" going on. C'mon Billboard, save yourself!

"STAY" is a strong hit, don't get me wrong, but it's competing with a two months old Ed Sheeran track and Olivia's ancient smash. Of course it has a nice lead, but I'd say BTS should have an easy time mass buying their way back to #1. And something huge like Drake could take "STAY" down as well (remember it took "WAP" to block his last big single).

If Kanye, Travis or Lil Nas X get blocked by BTS from the #1 slot (again, in Nas' case) then I could legitimately see the rap crowd instigating drama with billboard, and the thing is that it would damage billboard's credibility. Look what happened with the Grammys - they're dying, because they were involved in a very similar situation. If Billboard doesn't learn from that, I think that Spotify, for example, or Apple could launch their own chart in the very near future. That will be what the rap fans will use as the main metric of success, that will generate more clicks, more revenue and, ultimately, that will also dictate the general credibility of the biggest artists in the future. I could see Billboard getting completely replaced in a decade. Is getting a few more likes on twitter really worth destroying your business in the long run?

This continued rise should help them get into Top 30 and become stable.

Streaming or at least Spotify has kinda stalled it's growth a bit, hasn't it? Less than 1% of the US population is hearing "STAY" on a daily basis on Spotify.

After that Billboard article (which was pretty fair, I'd say), BTS stans are more toxic and unhinged than ever on Twitter rn, as if Twitter isn't already toxic and unhinged enough in general
