yeah remember last week when Lorde was like "I have enough money for the rest of my life?" Halsey probably raked/continues to rake that in with "Closer" alone, lol. if their art will be this much better without the commercial pressure, I'm totally for Halsey releasing all their future albums without a proper promo cycle. All these artists are probably saying duck the charts because they know how easily rigged it is and how it doesnβt give them any more credibility as a result.

Iβm more surprised Halseyβs album canβt even pass Aaliyah on iTunes. Aaliyah was predicted to sell like 14k last week, so I imagine she canβt be doing more than 5k really this week. Halsey is about to sell like 3k pure lol? I'd expect most of Halsey's pure sales to come from physicals, including the vinyl (which ships this week, as well). definitely not doing 3k pure lol. 3k digital downloads? probably. vinyl is at #6 and cd is at #10 on Amazon. also got sold-out listings for signed vinyl, and limited edition amber vinyl, and the standard vinyl on their website that ship to the US only. I was tempted to get the vinyl from my local record store today - but it was sold out by the time I got there (as was Big Red Machine). I got the last copy of the CD instead.

This is true, Billie did 153k pure and only 24k of it came from digital downloads. We're in the middle of a transitionary era from digital downloads back to physical sales, out with the new and in with the old.

^Except vinyl has become the preferred option for physical sales. It will be interesting to see if Billboard does a breakdown of Sour's pure sales for this week.

I'm all for artists not caring about commercial success if that means them getting to make the music they've always wanted to make but I listened to Halsey's new album and I can't say it's as good as, yet alone better than Manic. It definitely has some standouts but overall, it wasn't all that great. The album has a great theme and the production on most of the songs match that grandiosity but the lyrics and the vocal performances on the songs fall flat for me most of the time. I feel the same way about Lorde's new album in the sense that while Solar Power is meant to be her huge artistic, I-no-longer-care-about-commercial-success statement, Melodrama was still a lot better in quality and it had a lot of radio-ready cuts. I definitely feel like there's a fine line between making music that isn't necessarily radio-friendly and is true to one's artistic self and making music that's true enough but still enjoyable and like good, to some degree lol. Of course, I remain happy for artists who no longer feel pressured to make music they genuinely don't feel like making. That's one of the things I've always enjoyed about Lana Del Rey and how uncompromising she's been with her sound/style. Whatβs βgoodβ is subjective. There are plenty of people (on here at least, and even some critics) who raved over Lordeβs album and early opinions of Halseyβs say the same. I did listen to halseyβs today and while I donβt have a formed opinion on it yet, it did interest me and I know Iβm going to like it for the production alone. For me, I really like when artists who are near or in their prime take risks. They donβt always work but you can generally tell when they arenβt trying to appeal to commercial success - and sometimes they are but they go about it a completely different way. Without artists throwing caution to the wind and attempting to stick with fame and formula, weβd probably never have folklore, half of Gagaβs albums (for better or for worse), probably not even thank u, next. Idk.

Just saw Big Tommy's new song called dummies @ #4 on itunes so be prepared to see his new tracks chart on Billboard every other week (might even set a record?) What if he breaks drakes record for most entries? (Coz man drops same crap on weekly basis & bozos keep buying π¬) the other day I'd panic attack finding out Tommy's song on rock/alt track chart (I've seen weird shit charting there but this, who df is running dat chart?)
Guys seriously pray for drake, ye, Kendrick (even Frank) to drop projects & stay stable so bs like these won't a stand chance to enter.

Hmm, so one day in and no sign of the Megan Butter remix in the top 100 of iTunes or Apple Music, and I went to her and BTS's website and it doesn't even seem to be noticeably on sale there either (actually, on BTS's site I couldn't even find the other versions of Butter, so like I don't know where these fans are buying all these copies lol). Could it be that this might have no impact on its chart position whatsoever?

Iβm surprised thereβs little to no talk on the Baby Keem and Kendrick song despite it being his comeback and #2 on both YouTube and AM right now. This is literally another Sicko Mode and if Life Is Good was done right.

I was going to go with buying sheet music to play on your own instruments because recordings don't exist.

Iβm surprised thereβs little to no talk on the Baby Keem and Kendrick song despite it being his comeback and #2 on both YouTube and AM right now. This is literally another Sicko Mode and if Life Is Good was done right. Kendrick's biggest hit as a lead artist is Humble, which spent 15 weeks in the top 10 and was released almost 5 years ago. Sicko Mode and Life Is Good are two of the biggest rap hit records in recent memory, so why are you comparing this song to them because it's #2 on Apple Music and YouTube currently? The song having a beat change and being his first single in a while doesn't mean it'll see even half the success those songs saw and people not talking about it tells you all you need to know.

They're comparing it to those songs because like SICKO MODE and Life is Good, there's an instrumental change for both performers. No one is expecting it to do half as well as Life is Good or SICKO MODE, just that it's a thing to compare it to because of the similarities in the composition.

Why suddenly the outburst I don't know how you took that as an outburst. I even addressed it having a beat change and hinted at the reason why it wasn't being discussed as it simply not being that eventful of a song, despite it being Kendrick's first song in a while.

If there is a music god, then please let Planet Her (or if not, then Sour) block this Halsey album from reaching #1 on the Billboard 200. It would be so wrong on many levels if Halsey's album gets the #1, and Planet Her never did. But if Planet Her never reaches #1, part of the blame is on the mismanagement of Doja/her label. Seeing some of the albums that went to #1 post-Sour, Planet Her deserved to go #1 over almost all of them.

Have you heard, do you know if it's good or not? It's getting good reception around pop circles. What an absolutely petty and vindictive mindset on viewing success. Who cares if Planet Her never reaches #1. Future Nostalgia never reached number one and to use Halsey as an example, Badlands only peaked at #2 and it's gone 2x Platinum in the U..S. You think a measly chart position negates all of the success either album has achieved so far? There's no need to bring down one female act for another, just support everyone.

The difference between those albums and Planet Her is that in Dojaβs case, I feel that the album and itβs singles are not reaching their full potential due to mismanagement by the artist/label. With better decision making, Planet Her would have been a #1 album, with 2 #1 singles (Kiss Me More and Need to Know). Why they didnβt promote KMM harder the first 5 weeks before Butter/G4u, Iβll never understand. Heck, even Dua made a run at it that last week before G4u was released.

You haven't answered my question of what your bias is against Halsey and who cares if PH doesn't go number one. It's just a number on a board. The more important number for Doja is 523,000: the amount of units Planet Her has sold so far. Planet Her is already one of the most successful albums of 2020. She doesn't need that number one anymore.
