That’s the thing about this web store mass buying. If one person can buy 1,000 copies and have them count what exactly would stop a label from also arranging that.

It really isn't so far-fetched to imagine that Columbia Records (which is home to BTS, the Kid LAROI and Lil Nas X), wanted to get #1 hits for all three of their artists. All three acts have been #1 in the last 3 weeks. Their primary goal seems to be to get BTS as many #1 hits as possible. They did that with Butter and then they released a remix with Megan Thee Stallion to get the song a 10th week at #1. Stay had been #1 for 7 weeks. My guess is that if Adele wasn't arriving at #1 next week, they would have waited for it to also get to 10 weeks at #1 before having Industry Baby magically reach #1 like it did this week.

It's so clear that there is something nefarious behind how Lil Nas X was able to move 30k+ digital singles this week with no sort of promotion or push online. People keep mentioning the multiple versions released but those did nothing on iTunes. Industry Baby only managed 10.9k digital sales in it's release week, which was also it's peak weak streams-wise.

Good that the song finally got to #1 but these labels aren't nearly as smart about pulling some of these shady moves as they might think.

The only problem with this is that if Columbia records wanted LNX to get #1, they would have done it weeks ago (especially during debut week and album release week). Also, keep in mind that Adele is also now under Columbia records, so that debunks the trying to get Stay as many weeks at #1 theory. I think this is more LNX doing this on his own, as he got tired of playing follow the leader (Butter and Stay) at Columbia, and just said "screw it, I'm putting all my chips in for #1 on the Hot 100".

You clearly did not read the article and just wanted to say he stole the "visual concepts" because the article clearly shows IG posts where twigs herself thanked and praised Lil Nas X for being inspired by 'cellophane' and that he was doing good work and they'd talked before, so there's clearly there's no bad blood.

You also clearly don't know anything about dancing or choreographing because speaking as someone with experience - it takes a lot of hard work to pull it off even 16 seconds of choreo, let alone for a performance that's going to be filmed or performed for big audiences as Nas has done. So if you're just gonna write off another music video as being "another Telephone copy" even though the only thing they have in common is that they have jail scenes with dancing in them (and not even similar dancing, at all).

And finally as for his hits being "payola": MONTERO, THATS WHAT I WANT, and INDUSTRY BABY are still Top 20 on Spotify. And as for songwriting being bad, well you might not care for that. He's getting critical acclaim from audiences and critics so how do you explain that.
