I like the way The Weeknd sings. I like the way Abel sings.
Both work but imo using The Weeknd feels like you're talking about an entity or a band. I use Abel as it is much shorter so makes it easier than typing out The Weeknd whenever I want to refer to him.

Heck, I think he’s actually OK with it — I’m really just pointing out my own idiosyncrasy. To me, it would be like me talking about Sting and saying, “Gordon did this… Gordon said this… Gordon’s new album is coming out…” It just seems like it’s something I shouldn’t be doing haha. I’m dumb.

Just noticed that Billboard has two new charts that seem tailor-made for BTS Army stans and K-Pop fans: Twitter Trending - Real-Time and Weekly.

Permission To Dance is #1 currently. They have this chart in real time aswell (it is powered by Twitter). Songs are ranked by "mentions".
Twitter fanwars time.

I just checked the iTunes chart on kWorb, and I find it ironic that there are 3 versions (by 3 different artists) of Let's Go Brandon, two of which are in the Top 10, and the ad on top is promoting the NASCAR playoffs, the very sport that brought to life the whole Let's Go Brandon viral craze. I wouldn’t call it a viral craze, literally would not have heard of it if not for ITunes. I highly doubt people beyond chart nerds and people who fall for political grifters have heard of it. well, same person who kept pushing the 'fact' that the applebee's jingle would hit #1 before adele. brandon on spotify: ww outside t200 us outside t200

It's viral, I guess, just for the 60+ market. Which is still valid and all, just small

Moth To A Flame is so underwhelming. The best release of the week goes to Angele, such a bop!

I know some of us may deride this chart as just another chart for BTS to top (which is what it is) but however easily manipulated it is, at least it's the closest we'll get to a k-pop chart on Billboard and it is nice to see acts like TWICE, Stray Kids, SEVENTEEN, aespa, IU, ITZY, NCT and it's 500 million subgroups, EXO, TXT, and other K-Pop acts who are really really big (trust me, these are massive acts here in Asia) but just don't have the Western support to chart in the US, that they get some recognition and spotlight outside of the Gaon charts. Really hope (G)I-DLE and TWICE top the charts soon and hopefully Cherry Bullet, fromis_9, and 3YE get big and chart there (maybe even K/DA if Riot Games continues to make more k-pop?)

Oh and btw Moth to a Flame is amazing, listened to it three times last night and was blown away by how amazing it was. Not really sure how it'll do since unless it's Daft Punk, most of Abel's collabs with other electronic producers haven't down well (or have been good (with the exception of his work with Oneohtrix Point Never) but I really hope this is a big hit. I'm on my 6th or 7th repeat listen today and it's extremely rare I do more than repeat a song more than 3 times in a row for any song! I just love this song so much. Pls pls PLEASE MAKE THIS A HIT

That is very unfortunate. The Rolling Artist 500 chart was a way to view audio streams for the top 500 most-streamed acts in the US every week. A very valuable resource. I feared this would happen when they got bought by the same company that owns Billboard. Now Billboard can be even less transparent. This sucks.

It was expected since last year, but the transparency from RS was 1000 times better than Billboard (every song/album/artist having units sold/streams for each position). Knowing how many units the album #120 has or how many times artist #430 was streamed was great. Like tgd said Artist 500 is the biggest loss.
The reason is: Penske Media Corporation which is owner of Rolling Stone, bought Billboard. So now they owned 2 charts that had the "same" purpose for no good reason. One had to go, ofc it is the new one, not the "Bible of music".

Anyone know why this is?? "This week, Rolling Stone informed staffers that it was ending Rolling Stone Charts, the rolling list of the most popular songs and albums that it launched in 2019 as a competitor to Billboard, the industry standard. Last year, PMC reached a $225 million deal for control of Billboard's parent entity. The deal was reportedly under antitrust scrutiny from the Department of Justice. A PMC spokesperson said that review was closed. A spokesperson for the DOJ declined to comment. The charts decision fits with Rolling Stone's plan to wind down the trade publication-style reporting it does on the music industry, an area already covered by Billboard. "Rolling Stone at its best is a consumer product," Wenner said." www.businessinsider.com/rolling-stone-editor-plans-to-revive-magazine-internal-tensions-2021-10

Also, in addition to eliminating competition (which, as others have said, was inevitable since the Billboard-RS buyout), this is going to make predicting the Hot 100 much harder now that we won’t have access to early stats on song units.
Oh, and FWIW, the RS charts are still available to view, but I assume they’re going to be Error 404’d at any given moment, so enjoy them while they’re still here.

I'm not going to go and find it but I said this was coming whenever they announced the merger. Doesn't make sense for the same company to run competing charts, in an area where Billboard has been the main source since the 50's. I do agree with thegreatdivine that this is bad news for transparency. Monopolies are never good.

They had a Twitter chart in the mid 2010s that flopped, so. This reminded me they have yet to bring back the Social 50 chart, which is actually nice. It was always bizarre that counted for the Year-End artist chart...

^It's currently #7 at iTunes, #15 at Apple Music and its video has over views at YouTube. I guess finding out how it did today at Spotify and radio tomorrow should give us an idea of how well it might do.

I think you are delusional if you think Moth will be smash, after TMB barely reached top ten. But stranger things have happened.

I was thinking, we're close enough to 2022 that some of the songs charting are probably gonna end up being 2022 hits (according to the YE chart). Here's some possibilities IMO:
-Easy On Me -Essence -Beggin? -Cold Heart -Love Nwantiti -AOK -Meet Me At Our Spot -Grow (Willow & Avril) -Life Goes On (hopefully not) -Better Days
