I find the years discussion a bit uninteresting because every year has gems and every year has s**t music. Also music fans usually have this mentality of older music being so good and the current market being full of s**t. Give it a decade, Britney was called manufactured s**t back in the day but everyone jams to Toxic and BOMT now. Unless it's Bieber. That's always gonna be manufactured crap HOT TAKE: Toxic is one of the most overrated songs of all time. That doesn't mean it's bad (I'd give it a 6/10), but people lose their s**t over that song and I don't get why. That’s exactly how I feel about Wannabe (except maybe 4/10?)

I guess you're pretty surprised at this point that it is in fact debuting at #1 lmao. An it's very comfortably getting that #1, by at least a 100-point margin. And those first day numbers are FAR above love story TV was so that comparison isn't rly fair Sort of like how you also must be surprised last week both songs you predicted to make top 10 in fact did not, and multiple songs (One Right Now, Smokin Out) you said had no shot did indeed debut top 10! None of us can perfectly predict a week ahead. We’re human! All Too Well’s first week performance surprised literally everyone. Running back to find posts is pointless. LMAOO i can't believe i was SO off, fair point, I was definitely wrong - the AM streams were extremely unpredictable b/c of what prediction pages were saying on twitter in the first few days. And i didn't run back to your post, you were the only notification i had when i logged back in a week later b/c you replied to my post. Don't interpret my post as being shady bc it wasn't like that!!

Even the biggest Swifties out there would have expected ATW to fall after a couple days. It held on remarkably well (and is behaving well so far on week 2 as well).

Taylor Swift opens with the second biggest SPS week of the year after Drake's 613k.
RED (TV) becomes the second-biggest streaming week among albums by women:
#1 - thank u, next (307.07 million) #2 - RED (TV) (303.23 million) #3 - SOUR (300.73 million)

30 tracks vs 11 & 12 tracks .. hmmm i GUESS it’s the 2nd most streamed album in a week by a woman this logic is stupid because you don't have to listen to the entire album. people CHOSE to stream all 2 hours of it

If the other two had the same amount then the public would also CHOSE to stream all 30 tracks too and have an even higher streaming count

It is what it is. If Ariana and Olivia had 30 tracks as well it's safe to say they would have done even better (in fact SOUR had a better average per track than thank u, next, and obviously RED (TV)). Doesn't take away from the fact that Taylor managed to get an average of 10 million streams for a 2 hour album, which is also impressive on it's own.

The biggest question for me is if Taylor can manage a second week at #1 and stop Adele from getting the two simultaneous #1s (single and album). I guess EOM's streams will rise a lot this week because of the album release, but IDK... Adele should have released single #2 to go with the album.

I'm actually glad they decided to hold off on the second single until after having a chance to see how the album tracks fare in order to determine what would be the best choice.
WWWY is great but was obviously a misstep as far as singles go for 25.

EOM is ahead on streaming by a little, but has a huge radio advantage. I think Adele will easily return to #1.

Imagine the chaos if Taylor and Adele dropped on the same day and how many songs would go recurrent. It would’ve probably done some serious damage and would have the same effect if Kanye and Drake would’ve dropped the same day as well. This 4th quarter is really something and it’s a shame 2021 picked up in music releases right at the end.

Billboard Top 10 from 35, 30, 25, and 20 years ago: November 30, 199115 33 Emotions - Mariah Carey This was the first Hot 100 chart to use data from Soundscan. Did this rebound because of Soundscan? It had been #1 in October of that year.

It seems like OMG will be sent to radio ^Makes sense. It is the second most streamed song from 30 in both US Spotify and Apple Music.

I don't see a reality where ATW stays #1 and stops Adele from being #1 on both charts.

HOT TAKE: Toxic is one of the most overrated songs of all time. That doesn't mean it's bad (I'd give it a 6/10), but people lose their s**t over that song and I don't get why. Please rewatch this: Iconic. I did. It's fine. Nothing special, though.
