No, it wasn't. I would think it should manage to at least chart there (if not in the Hot 100) and Streaming Songs.

In addition to having a great selection of hits, that was such a huge year for the female eras (Fearless, I Am Sasha Fierce, The Fame, Funhouse, Good Girl Gone Bad, Circus, E=MC^2, Hard Candy, etc).

2017 had horrible hits in general (Shape of You, Despacito ruling over half the year alone) and was also a horrible year for women. To say 2008 was worse than a year like that is yikes.

I have some thoughts on this. I would agree with you if 

A. most of those albums biggest hits weren't bigger in 2009 than 2008 (You Belong with Me, Most of The Fame, ect.)

B. Many of the other albums you mentioned weren't (and this is just personally speaking) some of the lesser albums of their artists career. Like you cannot tell me that Mariah, Beyoncé, or Madonna were bigger or better in 2008 than during their peaks which were before or after 2008 with Beyoncé.

C. I do agree with Britney as she was still VERY popular at the time, however this was after the whole shaving her head incident which at the time there was really nothing like it. In hindsight it's super sad, depressing and disgusting, but 13 years ago artist's mental health was not thought of in the slightest and in 2007/2008 Britney was basically a punchline. I'd argue nothing related to 2017 was "worse to women" than the entire Britney situation being treated like a joke. Thank God she's finally free, and we understand Mental Health better.

D. I do agree, Shape of You is total butt and probably top 10 worst of the big songs of the decade but I don't get how 2017 was horrible to women overall. An argument could be made for 2018 with X and Kodak Black getting popular but those are really minor in the grand scheme of things. If anything, Praying becoming a huge hit for Kesha telling her tragic story is a good thing since it reminded everyone of how much of a massive waste of oxygen Dr. Luke is (plus the song is still incredibly powerful. 

So yeah

Mariah, Beyonce, and Madonna dropped great albums that year. Not being their best albums or at the top of their discography /=/ they can’t be good albums.

Also I wasn’t talking more about anything social related not sure how the discussion turned to that… specifically judging music 2008 was much better than 2017.

I’m going with 2008 easily! We are literally debating if a year dominated by Ed Sheeran, DJ Khaled, and Chainsmokers is better than another year…

It’s funny because even going by my own personal chart yearend and favourites lists for each year, 2017 was considerably weaker compared to any other year of the last decade. 2016 was only a bit better.
I have 2014-15 as being fairly strong, as was 2018 and even 2019. I think 2010 and 2011 (along with 14 and 15) were the best years, but nostalgia is a strong force so the latter years may creep up there in time.

Throw my two cents: both 2008 and 2017 ARE great years for hit songs. It's so funny that 2008 is getting bashing when 2005-2007 were FAR worse years for the 2000s, especially 2006.

i've always thought 2014 was overhated, its basically THE year of catchy, fun & (mostly) inoffensive pop songs & i think that's perfectly fine especially since it balances out with the truly GREAT hits such as rather be, boom clap, chandelier, latch etc.

of course this is all just my opinion but i think 2018 is the worst year. it was the year that hip-hop truly dominated which would have been really cool and interesting to see if the majority of them weren't hit or miss. the pop hits weren't any better as that genre especially had it pretty rough. i think 2021 is somewhere in between these two

I don't disagree, but it's not called the Music BUSINESS for nothing! I was surprised at how much mainstream coverage the bonus track received. I'm sure it'll get some Country airplay, but I doubt it'll smash there. Who know with Adele?

Remember music is subjective & 90% of people's favorite years of music are what they grew up with. That being said, my favorite era of music is 2009 - 2012. To me every year of the 2000's is better than the last. The worst year of 2010's music was 2018.

Also, I Bet You Think About Me by TSwift and Stapleton is having her most successful country radio run (since Red, ironically), so I wonder if that'll cannibalize the radio a little as the two biggest female pop stars are both pushing countryish songs with Chris Stapleton

I was going to defend 2006 since the first songs I thought of were "SexyBack", "SOS", Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy", "Promiscuous", "Hips Don't Lie", Cassie's "Me And U", "So Sick"........but then I remembered "Bad Day", "You're Beautiful", Yung Joc's "It's Goin' Down", "Laffy Taffy", and SO. MUCH. NICKELBACK.

Yeah, maybe 2006 wasn't that great after all...

My personal favorite Hot 100 was when "Animals" by Maroon 5 reached its peak of number three, "Love Me Harder" (Abel and Ariana) its peak of number seven, and "Hot Boy" (Bobby) its peak of number six on the chart. You can so many classics from the decade throughout the whole chart and it just brings back so much nostalgia ("Stolen Dance" by Milky Chance was on there too which deserved to reach the top ten stateside).

i would assume/hope that both "all too well"s are getting combined, mainly because it's getting combined in the UK. i don't think there should be anything to worry about, but it's kind of funny that taylor and her team are just going all out lmao.

It is not close at all. It’s literally about to be a 100 point lead.

They did all this type of stuff with ME!, Cardigan, and Willow too. It’s safe to assume at this point her team literally plans all this out in advance and goes into the release assuming they will need to execute a large scaled plan to go #1.

They are probably already planning large scale releases and tactics for Enchanted (TV) and whatever 1989 song will be the main one pushed as we speak.
