Another confusing moment about phieagles latest obsession --- Continuously Promoting 'Stay' being the biggest hit of 2021 The chart based on the title of the thread he is posting in, doesn't even have it in the top 10 YE Hot 100 top 12 1 Levitating 2 Save Your Tears 3 Blinding Lights 4 Mood 5 Good 4 U 6 Kiss Me More 7 Leave The Door Open 8 Drivers License 9 Montero (Call Me By Your Name) 10 Peaches 11 Butter 12 StayThe reason why Stay finished #12 on the YE chart is because of the cutoff date. Keep in mind, Stay is already going to pass G4u and KMM, the 2 biggest hits released in 2021, on the all-time list despite Stay being released 2 months after G4u and 3 months after KMM. All the other songs were released at least 2 months before Stay, with half of them released in 2020, and one of them even began charting in 2019 (though was the biggest song of 2020).

I believe the chart rules are fine, even the recurrency ones. AIWFCIY is hitting 52 weeks this year probably, so it's gonna have a harder time re-entering next year, which is fine. Maybe we'll get the rare week where Brenda Lee charts at like #30 and Mariah isn't there. Maybe someday in late 2023, AIWFCIY actually hits no.26 Hot 100 in a particular week. But it's not allowed to chart yet (below top 25). And the following week, it (actually) jumps from no.26 to no.1 (due to huge promo), but it become a re-entry at no.1! Hard, but a possible record-breaking milestone for Mariah.

It's hard to tell if he's actually a troll or not because sometimes he's kinda right about something

I sometimes try to keep out of these arguments but there is a valid and fair argument as to why Stay is the biggest hit of the year. Taking out Billboard for a second, it's been one of, if not, the biggest song on streaming this year and radio is having a tough time of letting it go so I don't think it's far fetched to believe it's the biggest song of the year.

why do we have to determine now which song was the biggest hit this year?
Stay isn't a HUGE smash like Shape Of You, Despacito, Old Town Road or Blinding Lights, it will definitely be remembered as one of the biggest songs of 2021, but I don't think it'll be THE song of 2021 nor do I think there will be any. For some people it will be drivers license, Levitating, Save Your Tears, Montero, good 4 u, Kiss Me More or Bad Habits. Time will tell for sure.

Stay is factually bigger than Montero, good 4 u, Drivers License, Kiss Me More and Bad Habits. It remains to be seen if it can surpass the other two
For transparency sake I prefer all of them over Stay (Which I really like too)

Biggest songs of 2021 and biggest songs released in 2021 are two different things.

I would probably put it as a huge smash on those levels. It's probably gonna become one of the most streamed songs on Spotify and is one of the biggest songs on Tik Tok

For example, Blinding Lights is without a doubt the biggest song released in 2019, but it was a far bigger hit in both 2020 and 2021. Other examples can easily be found.

Isn’t Stay the fastest song to hit 1 billion streams on Spotify?

Isn’t Stay the fastest song to hit 1 billion streams on Spotify? Yes, and it even moved back above Easy On Me on daily US Spotify as of last Friday. I thought EOM would challenge the record, but it has really fallen off the pace.

With all of this being said, could we please not engage in this topic again?

I may really dislike AIWCIY and want Brenda Lee to get the number one, but that's ridiculous to exclude AIWFCIY (and all black artists on a 60+ track playlist?? smh)

^ How does any traditional holiday list also leave off Eartha Kitt (SB), Nat King Cole (TCS) and Donny Hathaway (TC)?

Even The Ronette’s version of Sleigh Bells was left off.

Even ignoring Mariah, how in the hell do you make a Christmas playlist without The Ronette's Sleigh Ride, Darlene Love's Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) or ANY Nate King Cole songs?! Literally the first song on Spotify's Christmas Classics playlist is Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire

Billboard seems to have accounted for/corrected the "White Christmas"/"Holly Jolly Christmas" mess.

And it didn’t have the advantage of the weak summer competition. It had to face Taylor, Adele, and the Christmas domination.

Literally the first song on Spotify's Christmas Classics playlist is Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire I skipped around both of these Pandora stations. I don't have an account there but you can listen to both without one: Christmas: www.pandora.com/genre/christmasI got Johnny Mathis, Nat King Cole, The Ronettes, and the version of AIWFCIY from the Merry Christmas II You album within 30 songs. This playlist has way too much Michael Buble though. Christmas Traditional: www.pandora.com/genre/christmas-traditionalI got Nat King Cole, Johnny Mathis, and Ella Fitzgerald in this one. The only artists from after 1990 that I got in this were the Trans Siberian Orchestra and Michael Buble again. This playlist also has way too much Michael Buble on it. This Twitter user is only showing the first couple songs that come up in the preview and not the entire playlist of the station. That strikes me as a little disingenuous.

By a smidge this top 10 wasn’t as bad as I was expecting, I was under the impression that it would be 50% holiday tunes.
Now let’s form a prayer circle for Never Wanted To Be That Girl managing to debut this week.

I don't understand what you're getting at, even if Stay ends up becoming the most-streamed song released in 2021, who cares? Like we'll get there when we get there. Nobody is denying that the song is a huge hit. There's no reason to spam the Hot 100 thread every week trying to prove how big Stay is, "ITS THE BIGGEST HIT OF 2021," like okay. Cool. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So Easy on Me tops while #4 in streaming and #4 in sales.
I remember some troll (not the usual one) kept @ing me saying #4 in streaming and #1 in sales is not worthy of topping the chart.

The difference between ATW and EOM is that one followed up its week at #1 with 50+% and 25% drops to fall out of the Top 10, while the other is a multi-week #1 that has declined naturally.
