ATW was actually a huge streaming hit, unlike her two previous lead-singles or most of the recent sales led #1's (BTS, Stuck With U, Trollz). It's just not having great longevity, I do think it'll get 20 weeks on the Hot 100 and lock on the YE list, but with no radio play (even with the cutdown version, pop radio doesn't want to play songs that are almost a decade old) it just doesn't have a good chance at sticking around with only streaming. But you can't deny how big those first two weeks were, the song was actually huge and ended up grabbing the #1 spot back from Adele briefly. I think it definitely deserved that week at #1, because it was actually huge, unlike something like Butter which banked off sales for 10 weeks with barely any radio and minimal streaming. ATW reminds me a lot of This Is America, that song also had trash longevity but you can't deny how huge it was, it deserved those weeks at #1. The difference is that This is America was #1 in its first 2 weeks and #2 on its 3rd week. If I remember correctly, it had like 15 or 17 weeks on the chart. ATW was a one-week fluke that will likely fall off the chart with like 5 weeks if it isn’t fully pushed as a single on radio. Fall off with 5 weeks? It would've been around #10 last week if Christmas songs weren't present on the chart. It has basically the same chart run as This Is America which went 1-1-2-4-7-12-continued down. It still has enough streaming that it should be able to flounder around the 50-100 zone until it reaches 20 weeks, especially since the charts aren't particularly strong right now. It also may rebound a decent bit after the holidays. Willow managed to get 20 weeks despite having no streaming, and it didn't have particularly strong radio either but it was enough that it managed to scrape 20 weeks.

The Hot 100 is a weekly chart. A song doesn't need to be #1 or Top 10 for a certain amount of weeks to be considered a legit #1

Of course, ATW has absolutely NOTHING to do with 'Red (Taylor's Version)/(Secret Message Version)/(Dark Red Lipstick Version)/(Elvira Winter Solstice Version)' busting out the box and continuing to sell through in Week 3.
I wonder if the Amazon cloud meltdown Tuesday will knock down Amazon/Alexa holiday music streams for the tracking week. Millions of devices went offline for several hours.

I wonder if Mariah promoting so hard the last few years is starting to be overkill for the public? I think it’s because she was promoting that helped push the song to #1. This years promotion has been nonexistent. They could at least discount the single. Why is Pandora pissed at her? Something just doesn’t feel right about this year. Maybe because I’m a mini lamb so she’s on my radar but I’ve seen her everywhere this season and this song is always mentioned or played.? However I’m talking more visually than play listing. She’s got good play listing on Apple. Maybe Pandora is annoyed she has a deal with them???

That ATW post was so thirsty for attention and full of bait. Don't take the bait.
Least deserving #1, in the decade of the flash in the pan hits that don't even get 5 weeks on the chart... lmao.

Yeah that's promo by proxy; she was doing interviews for her Apple thing, and of course they mention "AIWFCIY." She didn't perform it this year, though, not even on the Apple 'special.' I don't think performances really make a difference, though. At a minimum they aren't needed. Look at all of the huge holiday songs that are by people who aren't even alive. Brenda Lee is alive but doesn't promote and "RATCT" is still huge. As has been said, if anything all of the attention on "AIWFCIY" might work against it in terms of backlash.

I get when people say “legit #1” they usually just mean legitimate actual big hit. As now a song can go #1, then be out top 50 a week or two later.
ATW is an album track that isn’t even serviced to radio though, so like, there’s no expectation it has to be a big hit? Going #1 was the bread and butter.
Obviously if this was a traditional lead single ala ME! and was already charting like this then yeah, it would be a cause for concern and it would be doubted as a legitimate hit. This is obviously where context matters. Same as if a Drake album track that is the 18th song on the album dropped 30 spots second week, versus if he did an actual standalone single pushed to radio and it performed like that.

Remember a couple weeks ago how you couldn’t enter these threads without dealing with a bunch of Taylor fans gloating. Where are they now? Is Taylor even projected to be in the top 10 this week? Or is “All Too Well” possibly the least worthy #1 of the decade? Probably working? Honestly I probably would be working overtime too if I was spending thousands of dollars annually on overpriced Taylor merch. Thank god I can afford the Mariah Menu at McDonald’s though.

ATW is literally still gaining 3.2m streams daily on Spotify across both versions almost 10 years after release. The exact opposite of came and went

rideordie doesn't follow the charts b/c if they did they would see that ATW is still doing great on Spotify. If you're not actually following the charts why are you making statements like you are?
As for degen I suspect they're just a troll

Personally I remember 2012 being the first year that AIWFCIY started becoming the go-to Christmas song I remember in 2011 that HMS Ocean thing set to "AIWFCIY" went viral, and then in 2012 she did the Fallon classroom instruments version of the song that also went viral. I think those things in back-to-back years really took it up another level to where it became the top holiday song.

Now it’s “I don’t follow the charts”? How long did ATW last in the top 10 again? And I don’t want to hear the excuse of Christmas songs. Christmas songs aren’t even as huge this year compared to last year. If ATW is as huge as y’all say it is, why isn’t it even in the top 10?

On the topic of Superstar collaborations there been some in recent years that have been major hits with Christina Aguilera,Mya & Pink "Lady Marmalade" & Jessie J,Nicki Minaj & Ariana Grande "Bang Bang".
I do remember lots of people bring surprised that Ariana Grande,Miley Cyrus & Lana Del Rey's "Don't Call Me Angel" Charlie's Angels collaboration in 2019 that not doing well at all and was expected to be a hit.

The ATW situation is really specific.
You can't really call it a 2021 hit (because it probably won't be a huge deal for several weeks or months like G4U, EOM or Stay), but at the same time you can (because it hit #1 and was an event with its mv).
I don't know if this makes sense, but just look at Levitating. The song never topped the weekly chart, it was never the biggest song of the week (according to the formula), but it ended up as the biggest song of the year...and that's just more impressive than Permission To Dance's one week at #1, but you can't call Levitating as a #1 song, like you can PTD.
That's the way I look at ATW. I don't see someone in 10 years saying "Remember ATW, that song was a hit in 2021", but I can see "Oh, ATW is just one of Taylor's signature songs and definitely her magnum opus". People are already well acquainted with ATW during these 10 years, the song just got its closure with the 10M version and music video this year.

On the topic of Superstar collaborations there been some in recent years that have been major hits with Christina Aguilera,Mya & Pink "Lady Marmalade" Half of the people on this forum weren't even born yet when this came out ... Were any of them besides Christina really "superstars" at that point, though? They'd all had hits, but it's hard to tell looking back how well-known the other women were. I suppose they were probably all at least as famous as Jessie J was before "Bang Bang."

Christina’s breakout was in 1999 and Pink’s was 2000 (she had hits like There You Go and Most Girls).

Christina also had another big collaboration that year with Ricky Martin with "Nobody Wants To Be Lonely".

P!nk had a total of 2 top 10 hits and 1 average selling album that peaked at #26 by early 2001. Definitely not 'superstar' status. That's like saying Ava Max has reached superstar status or something. Christina was the only one who ever truly broke out mainstream by "Lady Marmalade". Mya & Lil Kim were not even among the biggest R&B/Hip-Hop names at the time let alone superstars. Nicki was also arguably the only superstar during "Bang Bang". Ariana only had 2 hits prior and was right in the midst of breaking through.
