All Too Well predicted to fall off the Top 50 in Week 5, may struggle to reach 10 weeks: The song did fine for a rerecording of a 9 Year Old song,You can't expect every Taylor song to be like "Shake It Off" or "Blank Space" on the charts in 2021/2022. Taylor is way past the days where she needs to depend on radio airplay on their own and the song is still top 50 on Spotify which is better than "Willow" and "Cardigan" have done. I call it a success no matter what the result is.

Letβs wait to see where ATW lands post-holidays before we completely write it off. Still top 10 on US Spotify if you exclude the holiday music.

It's a unique situation with the song. We can't treat it as a current radio single because it's not, yet not entirely a nine year old random album track. Of course it already developed the status of a fan favorite, and when she saw it was doing the best out of all the songs on Red (TV) the moment it was released, especially with the new 10 minute version, they did give it a pretty big push with extra versions/remixes and the extended video, but just no radio push, leaving a lot of room for debate as to whether it's actually a "single" or not. But because of this gray area, the fact that it did hit #1 and was completely unexpected, I'd say it's a success.

All Too Well predicted to fall off the Top 50 in Week 5, may struggle to reach 10 weeks: If you'd take a long look around maybe you'd realise you're possibly the only one here rooting for the downfall of a decade old fan favourite. Its run so far is a testament to a kind of love and longevity that the vast, vast majority of truly huge chart juggernauts like Shape Of You or Despacito or Old Town Road, will never achieve. The love for this song is undeniable and it isn't going anywhere in the hearts of the people who, like me, have loved this song for a decade. You just look sad. Go outside. Touch some grass. Have a peppermint mocha. Listen to ** or something and take a deep breath and relax.

All Too Well predicted to fall off the Top 50 in Week 5, may struggle to reach 10 weeks: do you like get aroused by the thought of this song falling off the charts? That can be the only explanation at this point for the obsession.

That is the same person who was rooting for Fancy Like to hit #1.

That can be the only explanation at this point for the obsession. damn I never even considered that they might have a humiliation kink of some sort. one day, we'll all learn to just ignore their blabbering. as we all know, this time last year Swift's own "willow" took a historic 1-38 fall on the Hot 100, but it turned out to be a longer lasting Hot 100 hit than "cardigan" in the end. the common denominator is the Christmas songs flooding the chart right now, of course, but that poster has been proven to lack the capacity to think before commenting here on several occasions. their comment is as unsubstantiated as saying "oh look, 'Santa Tell Me' is rising really fast this week, it might be the next No. 1!" π

ATW's situation is truly novel and unlike any in the Hot 100's history.
In this ever-evolving streaming era, where a song of any age can essentially be new to the GP, I think ATW might be foreshadowing of a future where a song doesn't have to be new to be a hit.

All Too Well predicted to fall off the Top 50 in Week 5, may struggle to reach 10 weeks: Does anyone know what's the longest song to chart without significant airplay? Like ATW?

I don't think it's just that it's an old song. Because it's an old song but re-recorded, reproduced and with added lyrics so it's also a different song and listening experience from the 2012 original. That and it wasn't originally released as a single nor did it even have a music video, it's been an acclaimed deep-cut for 9 years now so it had 9 years of hype built into its release. It's truly one of a kind.

All of these use old vocals and combine them with new production, and all did well in at least one territory.

Wants and Needs charted 21 weeks without any airplay, and Tombstone charted 22 weeks despite peaking at #66 on kWorb airplay in August.

I thought maybe he had but I wasn't sure. They may have manipulated them or something. I like that song though, and I hope it can reach the top 10 post Christmas.

Most articles I've read dont say anything about re-recording vocals so we can assume that most of the vocals are taken from Sacrifice. Makes sense though, his vocals on his other songs released this year sound older than on Cold Heart.

We did have songs like Nights in White Satin (released in 1967 and became a #2 hit in 1972) and Pure Prairie Leagueβs βAmieβ (released in 1972 and became a Top 10 hit in 1975) in the early days of the Hot 100.

Makes sense though, his vocals on his other songs released this year sound older than on Cold Heart. I saw a video that broke down the four songs used in 'Cold Heart' and how they were used in the composition of the track; I think it had an excerpt from a radio interview where Elton said he'd effectively given PNAU carte blanche to go through his masters and do what they wanted with them, and PNAU made 'Cold Heart' out of them. So yeah, there were no new contributions from Elton himself, just Dua - which in the same interview Elton said it was his suggestion to bring someone else in on the track. So in the vault somewhere is an Elton-only version of the song before Dua recorded her parts.

I hope mashups becoming a hit is something that happens more often. Mashups are so popular on YouTube too (or atleast used to be a few years ago? I don't really keep up with music via YouTube anymore).
Another nice mashup hit that comes to mind, reached #11 on Pop radio:

We've definitely had old songs become hits a few years after they initially released, that's nothing new, but have we ever had an old song get an extended re-release years later and THEN become a hit? I feel like that's the part that makes All Too Well so unique

I feel like that's the part that makes All Too Well so unique For songs that became big hits after re-release years later: UB40's "Red Red Wine" reached #34 in 1984, then re-released in 1988 and peaked #1. Sheriff's "When I'm With You" reached #61 in 1983, then re-released in 1989 and peaked #1. Charlene's "I've Never Been To Me" reached #97 in 1977, then re-released in 1982 and peaked #3. There are more instances of songs having higher peaks in second runs years later in UK too I believe. Madonna's "Holiday" was released three times in UK, and on the opposite side was a hit each time -- peaking #6 in 1984, #2 in 1985, and #5 in 1991. That's so impressive for a non-Holiday song to just have 3 separate popular runs in less than a decade. And ofcourse, "The Twist" is the biggest example of a non-Holiday song having two separate runs but was a big hit in both runs.

I don't think any of those were extended versions of the originals though
