I don't think any of those were extended versions of the originals though Elvis - A Little Less Conversation comes to mind technically. 2:28 originally, released in 1968, peaked at #69 on Hot 100 and didn't chart in any other countries. Remixed in 2002 with a 3:30 radio edit and 6:22 album version. Peaked at #50 on Hot 100, and was a smash globally reaching #1 in UK/Australia/etc. The reason for the lower peak in US being the Hot 100 was like 98% airplay at that point, and it peaked at #1 on sales while not charting at radio. The compilation album it was the lead single for opened at #1 with 500K also. It was a big moment for the song. The 2002 version has 129 million streams on Spotify, while the 1968 original has 14 million streams.

^In the case of Red Red Wine, its 1984 chart run was with the 3:01 radio edit, while for the 1988 one it was with the 5:20 version which included the Astro "rap":

That Junkie XL remix was everywhere; I agree that the Hot 100 peak was deceptive. I remember going on the old Flash animation website AlbinoBlackSheep back when I was a pre-teen, and watching this and other 'animutations' blew my mind, though they seem quaint now

If streaming were a thing back then, ALLC would’ve absolutely been a top 10 hit in the US. Just goes to show how some global smashes just don’t catch on here to the same extent.

I don't think it's just that it's an old song. Because it's an old song but re-recorded, reproduced and with added lyrics so it's also a different song and listening experience from the 2012 original. That and it wasn't originally released as a single nor did it even have a music video, it's been an acclaimed deep-cut for 9 years now so it had 9 years of hype built into its release. It's truly one of a kind. It is, though it's also akin to Kygo updating "Higher Love" and now the "Cold Heart" remix in some form. All of these use old vocals and combine them with new production, and all did well in at least one territory. A good example would be Lizzo's song "Truth Hurts" was released in 2017 but became a hit in 2019 in the USA 2 years later. Also Lizzo's song with Ariana Grande as a added feature was originally released in 2016 but came out in late 2019.

All Too Well predicted to fall off the Top 50 in Week 5, may struggle to reach 10 weeks: Not the swifties getting rattled by this comment. Yeah okay but it was still a hit. Y’all do the most painting every song with the same brush as if every single must follow the same points and rules in order to be called a hit. You can talk about it all you want, doesn’t make whatever song you’re trying to lessen any less of a hit. Just makes you look ignorant. Carry on with that :kii:

I don't think any of those were extended versions of the originals though If anything that extended nature is what made it a hit since it was something to draw interest. The TV of the album version alone would not have gone #1.

I will never understand the thought process of saying a song that topped the charts not a hit, that just makes zero sense.

Since I posted this prediction in the wrong thread, I'll repeat what I said in my original post: - Looks like Girl of My Dreams won't debut as high as lots of people said it would (though I still think it'll be one of the bigger debuts from Fighting Demons) - We can expect Save Your Tears, Beggin', If I Didn't Love You, and Pepas to all go recurrent this week

I wonder if "Easy On Me" will crack 100 million audience when Christmas is over? It should gain a good 15-20 million AI from AC radio.
Edit: On Billboard.

The predictor prefaces that the predictions could be wildly inaccurate- would be interesting if that turned out so.

That's Army for you, they throw their backing behind a song better believe BTS will get yet another number 1.

I’d say if a song makes it to #1 (no matter how it got there), it should be considered a “hit”, regardless of its overall familiarity to the masses or its chart longevity (or lack thereof). So yes, “TROLLZ”, “All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version)” and even “FRANCHISE” were hits, regardless of the average person on the street never hearing (nor hearing of) those songs.
With that said, the term “hit” is subjective. Back in the late ‘90s when airplay-only songs weren’t allowed to chart on the Hot 100, songs like “Iris”, “Fly” and “Don’t Speak” were massively popular, even though they never charted on the Hot 100. So, you can have sales hits, streaming hits, and airplay hits. Regardless, they’re all “hits”, one way or another.

How many songs released in a given year does the average person on the street recognize? I feel like with streaming that number has probably been reduced to single digits. Everyone has their favorite genre and musician that they follow.

I wonder if "Easy On Me" will crack 100 million audience when Christmas is over? It should gain a good 15-20 million AI from AC radio. Edit: On Billboard. lol, I hope not. We don't need radio to hold on to EOM like they did with Stay. Or like they did with Blinding Lights?
