This weekβs debuts: #97 Do It To It - ACRAZE ft. Cherish SQUID GAMESββ Jokes aside, I'm happy to see a potential US EDM hit after a long time. Goosebumps was barely a hit, The Business and Joel Corry songs flopped in the US, and Love Tonight didn't even hit Hot 100. I hope Do It to It will be a success here.

I hope we all know that Do It To It was first an R&B hit by the girl group Cherish in 2006. That was such a great song, and unfortunate that even then R&B girl groups were becoming extinct. This new version is decent, but it just seems a pale imitation of the original and can't quite recreate its magic.

Itβs funny cause I remember exactly 15 years ago during Christmas I was obsessed with βDo It to Itβ and had it on my iPod shuffle. Itβs one of my favorite R&B hits ever and the fact itβs charting again going into 2022 via a new form is a pleasant surprise.

Easy On Me would have 9 weeks at #1 without Christmas songs. No one saw that coming. What a huge hit. It took me a few listens before it stuck, but now I love it and thinks itβs an incredible song. Hope it has a couple more weeks at #1.

37 out of the Hot 100 are holiday songs, including 26 out of the top 40 and 32 out of the top 50. We should start seeing significant rebounds next week for the non-holiday songs with some new peaks even possible.

Hope it has a couple more weeks at #1. If not for mass buying, Stay would have like 12-13 weeks at #1, and the Top 3 record would have likely been tied on the 1/8 chart (and if not for Christmas, it would have already been broken). I get the feeling radio is going to hold on to EOM like they did with Stay.

See, this is why I hate that radio is holding on to Stay and EOM for far too long. People are going to use that to diminish their legacy and say they were primarily "airplay driven", even though the numbers they put up their first 7 weeks were record-breaking.

Airplay has been part of what makes a hit single for decades upon decades, so just because the numbers may not be what they once were, they're still an important, and necessary, part of the equation. Plus, it's not like "Easy on Me' isn't a streaming hit; it's top six again on both Spotify and Apple Music.

What was record breaking about the "Easy on Me" 7th week? In Week 7, it was still getting a boost from the album release. After that, though, EOM's streams began to fall off Stay's pace. Months from now, when Stay and EOM are still very high on radio, people will have likely forgotten about their streaming achievements and all they will remember is the overplay.

If millions of people are hearing a song through radio, it's still popular enough to be a hit, even if it's not the talk of social media like streaming hits often are.

Of course, none of that changes that its primarily airplay keeping it at the top, which is what I stated.

^Yes, though the Maroon 5 comparison probably wasn't the best example. :)

Yeah, comparing EOM to a Maroon 5 song is weird. EOM was and still is a streaming smash, and radio has generally kept most hits from falling. This isn't something exclusive to EOM or even a Maroon 5 song.

In Streaming Songs, 41 out of the top 50 were holiday songs. For the sake of comparison, for the comparable week last year, it was 40 out of the top 50 but that tracking week ending on Christmas Eve rather than two days before Christmas.

We should start seeing significant rebounds next week for the non-holiday songs with some new peaks even possible. More likely the following week, with Eve and Xmas + some decent streams on Sunday, I'm guessing there will be better holds than last year - even with streams being down generally.

^Yes, though the Maroon 5 comparison probably wasn't the best example. :) Maroon 5 wasn't the best parallel, but my point is more that "EOM" isn't a huge streaming or sales song (outside of its first week) but looks like it will get at least 8-10 weeks at #1. That's more than other Adele songs that felt bigger, but also more than "good 4 u" and other songs that were a lot bigger on streaming. That was my general point.
