I've never seen anyone talk about The Box outside of this forum. But it was also very much a US sensation that didn't quite dominate the same way elsewhere.

obviously someone out there was talking about every one of the decade's hits. but i personally didn't experience that phenomenon with 90+% of them.

The Box wasn't huge worldwide but it was a fucking phenomenon in the US, it might end up becoming Roddy's legacy if he doesn't bounce back from that mediocre second album.
But yeah, 2020 hits that I heard people actually talking about was Blinding Lights and WAP for sure. I thought it was funny cuz the older members of my family didn't recognize some of The Weeknd's hits during his halftime performance but when BL came on they instantly were like "oh this song!"

What about the omnipresence of the millions of people watching Encanto who aren't even measured by streaming or airplay? So...just because a person unwittingly hears a song in the movie or TV show, that should be count as a play somehow? By this logic: the Squid Game theme song and other music pieces in it should've been in the Top 10 for several weeks. I know this is an extreme hyperbolic example but if one song will be measured, you have to include all other songs and music pieces in media. It's radical, but if the chart is meant to display the most popular songs of the week, this would actually make sense. In the past I imagined them somehow incorporating songs being used in TV commercials into the chart

Go back a few years and the teens raved about Fetty Wap for a few months too. Although The Box certainly had a better chart run than Fetty's hit.

I know this is an extreme hyperbolic example but if one song will be measured, you have to include all other songs and music pieces in media. First of all, I didn't actually say it should be measured; I was simply making a point about people indirectly hearing a song. Secondly, and along those same lines, how is unwittingly hearing "Bruno" in a movie someone is choosing to watch any different than someone unwittingly hearing "EOM" on a radio station someone chose to listen to? In other words, praising that people are hearing "EOM" but not praising people are hearing "Bruno" seems odd.

I know this is an extreme hyperbolic example but if one song will be measured, you have to include all other songs and music pieces in media. This was actually Billboard's logic when they included YouTube streams from absolutely any video containing a song. Obviously they backpeddled on that idea and stopped but we had the iconic "We All Might Be Dead By Tomorrow" become top 10 just from being background music.

It's radical, but if the chart is meant to display the most popular songs of the week, this would actually make sense. In the past I imagined them somehow incorporating songs being used in TV commercials into the chart I used to think so too. When songs are used in ads, for example, or in movies - those are things that can be tracked and added to audience totals that contribute toward the charts. How is it different than hearing a song on the radio? But now I think of those things as being more external factors that people have to respond to if they choose to. Hear a song you love in an ad, you stream it or buy it. Things like Super Bowl performances or award show spots I think a stronger case can be made for. These are primarily music-focused things that generally audiences actively choose to see/hear, and they generate discussion. But of course, they’re often medleys, so how would they count in a chart context. It could open a bag of worms all around.

In my country, I already heard We Don't Talk About Bruno on the radio. The past 3 years any song that hits it big on Spotify, Tiktok and YouTube normally gets radio play here

Reportedly this will be a Spotify-exclusive song with The Game, and only available to listen to for 24 hours. Update: I lied about the 24-hour thing, Eazy is now available to stream and buy on all platforms.

Probably has something to do with him renewing his record deal and asking for a favorable deal. Republic might be reluctant to come to the table for that and hence, the delay in his album's release. Called it.

Kworb didn’t update today on radio. Whenever this happens, it's because Mediabase (and by extension AllAccess, which Kworb sources his data from) was late.

That situation for Post is such a mess but if the contract is over, it's not really a surprise either. Both parties should've seen it coming. Why create an album without a contract?

The thing is though, the singles Post has released from this album so far have received a lukewarm response. Not sure if it would have been wise to release the album so soon anyway.

That situation for Post is such a mess but if the contract is over, it's not really a surprise either. Both parties should've seen it coming. Why create an album without a contract? I'm sure Post and his team didn't expect it'd take them this long to reach an agreement on a new contract and you record a new album without a set contract in place because you're a musician and that's what musicians do? He's made a lot of money for Republic/UMG and has had 3 massive albums so you'd think they'd prioritize reaching a new deal with him with more favorable terms but apparently not. Worst case, Post signs with another label. I'm sure following this report, he's gotten some calls about that., maybe even before the report if there's been whispers within the industry of him and Republic not being able to come to an agreement on a new contract. Either way, regardless of how I feel about his last 2 singles, I'm ready for a new Post album. There'll definitely be some better songs on there.

So I finally watched Encanto, I'm even more confused why 'Bruno' is the song to go viral and not 'Waiting for a Miracle'. Also I think 'Bruno' would be much better if performed live or within an actual broadway context. The trap percussion is really tacky.

"We Don't Talk About Bruno" is still gaining week-on-week on spotify/youtube and is pushing back into the top 10 on Apple Music. I'm not sure how much more its streaming/sales need to increase to overtake "Easy On Me" but it's possible it may start to plateau before being able to overtake given the points gap between the two songs. Although early signs are that "Easy On Me" may finally be starting to fall on Pop radio, so its airplay gap between it and "We Don't Talk About Bruno" should decrease over the next couple weeks.
