Yes, that's part of it, I was going to mention too. Songs featured in movies/shows do provide much cultural presence and visibility, but I would say that grounds for adding them as part of the Hot 100 formula are shaky at best, as it's even a step below radio, where listeners/viewers aren't even selecting a certain song to be played, but not necessarily even electing to listen to any music at all (unless of course it is a musical or music-centered movie like Encanto).

There is legitimately no competition on the songs chart. A song that peaked in August is right below it as the only contender.

January is usually slow, but right now is another level of drought I do not recall seeing in any recent years. It's also weird because the albums chart is atleast somewhat busy. It's not like the #1 album is doing 40k or something which you would expect seeing this type of drought on Hot 100.

And the next #1 is probably gonna be a song that's been on the chart for over a year. 
Not that I'm complaining, I like Glass Animals.

Radio should know that even the song is not radio-friendly, the song's catchy though even without context from the film. I don't think not all the people who streamed Bruno on Spotify has seen the movie. Radio's still not progressing, smh.

I think you're focusing too much on the catchy bit and not the "doesn't work without context from the film" part which is more important, especially when you're talking about musicals. A musical song being a catchy sing-a-long tune isn't a plus, it should be a part of the show because if it's not tuneful, the show will drag on (most broadway productions are about 3 hours long so you need things to move fast). So while I love 'Be Prepared' and 'Be Our Guest' as someone who's watched both films since I was 4, if I was someone who'd never watched The Lion King or Beauty and the Beast and it came on the radio, I'd be like 'wtf is this?'

At least 'Let It Go' and 'How Far I'll Go', you don't really need the film to get the context to get what they're about, they're simple self-empowerment songs.

"We Don't Talk About Bruno" wouldn't work on radio, but I think "Surface Pressure" could, and it's close enough behind on streaming that the radio points could make it a viable #1 candidate too.

It looks like the As Heard Around the World single got dropped to help secure the song's crown in the UK (it was leading as of the first two days of the tracking week reported in the midweek radio show). In addition, if it doesn't get to #2 on the 1/22 chart of the Hot 100, that may give it the edge for 1/29, as all predictions had 1/22's #2-#4 as a tossup.

I think you're focusing too much on the catchy bit and not the "doesn't work without context from the film" part which is more important, especially when you're talking about musicals. A musical song being a catchy sing-a-long tune isn't a plus, it should be a part of the show because if it's not tuneful, the show will drag on (most broadway productions are about 3 hours long so you need things to move fast). So while I love 'Be Prepared' and 'Be Our Guest' as someone who's watched both films since I was 4, if I was someone who'd never watched The Lion King or Beauty and the Beast and it came on the radio, I'd be like 'wtf is this?'

At least 'Let It Go' and 'How Far I'll Go', you don't really need the film to get the context to get what they're about, they're simple self-empowerment songs. 

And Let It Go itself, despite being more radio-friendly and less context-specific still only received minimal airplay, making Bruno's prospects look even more dim in that regard.

Other than Radio Disney it's hard to imagine it getting airplay too many other places.

I have Sirius FM, and I've heard WDTAB playing on the 'TikTok radio' channel. But 1. that's a niche channel that doesn't exist on actual FM radio, and 2. Sirius has an eclectic taste in music, even in the context of what would be expected from the niche stations. (For example, I heard Chris Brown's Deuces on the 10s Spot channel earlier today. Not exactly a song that comes to mind for most in the context of 2010s throwback music.)

I doubt WDTAB will do well on FM radio proper, but in this day and age, that isn't required for a song to go #1, it just helps and is often near-required for it to remain there for more than a few weeks at most.

They might not care too much about #1 for this song and whether it would even be worth the expense. A top 5 and likely #2 peak is respectable enough. The soundtrack has already hit #1 and looks like it will thrive for a while, and other songs from the album are charting as well.
