40. have you ever seen the rain = i grew up on CCR. Well, they were among the first music I ever listened to, and this is easily one of my favourites. Shame it's so low.
39. counting stars = head scratcher for sure. Maybe a #86 song at BEST
38. stairway to heaven = this was my high school graduation song. 20 years ago. No idea why. Apparently I went to school with a bunch of stoners and this is what they wanted. I don't think I care either way, but I'd say this is the type of song that, if it somehow had made it to #1, I wouldn't argue against. It wouldn't be MY #1 by any means, but I recognize it's classic status.
37. the scientist = I don't know what it is but some of coldplay's piano melodies I can (or could) play on piano. This was one of them. I can't play piano. Either way, I like this song. It's not something I listen to now but in the right mood, I could get into it. It still feels oddly high though.
36. hotel california = this seems like one of those songs that people somewhere told everyone else that it was good and the general populace just kind of accepted it. Yeah, I don't think it's bad by any means but is it really that good? I might have underranked it though. I'd have to see what I ranked it below to decide that.
35. numb = I like this one.
34. Zombie = my #2. I did expect this one to make it higher, mostly because despite the number of rock songs that have been dumped so far, the entire rankdown is fairly rock centric, and this being one of the biggest rock songs of the 90s, I thought it might have a shot at Top 10, or at least top 20. zombie isn't my favourite from the cranberries but sometimes, it just HITS.
33. pokerface = pokerface isn't my favourite from Gaga either. I'd say it's rather tame and even dull compared to many of her hits, most of which I like more. Yet, it's still (one of) her biggest. I do wonder if time might give it a bit more status on lists such as these? In any case, I'm fine with it being out now because it made it further than I would have expected it too. Other Gaga songs I wouldn't be as chill over losing at this point.
32. somebody that i used to go = i'm kind of pleasantly surprised this made it this far. It seems a bit polarizing but also kind of... I don't want to say forgettable, but it doesn't scream "LISTEN TO ME" or "REMEMBER ME" when I listen to it. It feels more flash in the pan than anything. It's not a go-to for me by any means but I like that in the grand scheme of this list, it offered something a little different.
31. every breath you take = i'd probably put this in the pile of songs that have long since become overrated. And I say that with the understanding that I don't like that word because, when I think about it, it doesn't really make sense. A song like this is something I wouldn't expect to be anyone's favourite, but is still pretty likeable. And when you get a song that is generally likeable, not LOVED, but not HATED, then it's going to stand the test of time. Adele has made a career out of that very idea. At any rate, the Police have better that aren't played out.
30. I want you back = this song is a jam!
29. under pressure = I don't hate this.
28. careless whisper = I feel like i'm a latecomer with this song. I only knew wham from last christmas and wake me up before you go-go. This song kind of went over my head whenever I heard it. I can dig it!
27. house of the rising sun = this was kind of a neat discovery. (I say discovery knowing I've heard it before but didn't really pay attention to it at the time). I saw this video on a WatchMojo list a few months back. I think it was the most haunting songs or saddest songs or something. This song almost feels like a masterclass of what an epic audio recording should sound like. I definitely underranked it now seeing I gave it only a #50. I almost argue that it should be #1. we should all be sorry.
26. ain't no mountain high enough = yeah, it's a classic and required listening for sure. idk, it never really excited me.
25. hey jude = this should be let it be
24. uptown funk = I've never been into this song. It's part of the 1-2-3 of happy, can't stop this feeling, uptown funk, the trio of songs i was already sick of before they reached #1.
23. rolling in the deep = i may have said this during the someone like you reveal but i'm still tired of adele's 21-era singles. With that said, I definitely overranked this. If I based my list on what songs I'd want to listen to at a given time, this one shouldn't be above many of the others I ranked lower. Given the choice to listen to this song now versus most others, I might choose the others. Don't get me wrong, it's a fantastic song, but i'm just so tired.
22. don't stop me now = i kind of wish i liked queen's sound because they do sound like a good time. :(
21. lose yourself = can't say i'm sad it made it this high.

Sure, Mike Shinoda showed up and he didn't exactly ruin this track, but he took up a spot where Fatman Scoop would've slayed, and that was his real crime.
