The Pulse web servers keep crashing on me, so if there’s a huge gap in me being able to post the next reveal, that’s why. We’re almost at the finish line, so please servers, just hold on for a little longer

The one time I didn't fully tank Billie Jean...predictable AF I mean, why should anybody tank it. It is a great song. Both Billie Jean and Bohemian Rhapsody are great songs that no one should tank

Alright, we’re down to two 80s titans. Take On Me vs Billie Jean. Which one will come out on top?

How the fuck is Billie Jean a great song, let alone MJs best, LET ALONE A SUPPOSED ICON OF THE 80S?!?
- Basic as fuck bass line with the same repetitive notes over and and over
- Basic as fuck lyrics that only last 2 subpart verses, one pre chorus and one chorus repeated until you're nauseous.
- Basic as fuck music video. Ooh I can make the lights glow when I walk, ooh there's split screen, SOOOO IMPRESSIVE SENPAI
The ONLY prop I will give it is the Moonwalk and even THAT IS PUSHING IT

September, Take On Me, and Billie Jean are songs I've heard a lot of times. Yet, Billie Jean hasn't worn out on me as much as September, and to a greater extent, not as much as Take On Me.

After the "Thriller" that I did, I don't think I even deserved to be in a "Gangsta's Paradise". Those "Blinding Lights" caught up to me in the middle of "September". "'Beat It'!", I said to them, it felt like that operatic part in "Bohemian Rhapsody". But suddenly, you arrived and it ended the "Total Eclipse of the Heart" of mine. I finally learn that "Sweet Dreams Are Made of This" moment. Thank you, because you actually "Take On Me", my sweet "Billie Jean". Africa incident aside, I think this is my best performance in any rankdown ever. 8th in Closeness, 1st in Perfect Rankings. What more could I say? Thank you for doing this rankdown, mikerivera.

4. Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen
Typical selfishness on the part of Queen. If they sat on this song just a little longer, they could have asked Mac Dre to fill the role he was born to play, and together they would have created The One Song That Is Impossible To Dislike

let's do these by scrolling down one song at a time to keep the suspence boner alive. 10. Total Eclipse of the Heart - Bonnie TylerI always loved the buildup of this song. It's like a Meatloaf song he never wrote. 9. Gangsta’s Paradise - Coolio f/L.V.Not much to say except that I wasn't the lowest ranker for this song? Surprising. 8. Blinding Lights - The Weeknd I've said my peace on this song. It feels like if I would put a DIAMANTE song in my top 10 songs of all time so I guess to that extent it makes sencse. Also If I wanna listen to new Retrowave I just tune the dial and look for Reckless Love.7. Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) - EurythmicsNew Wave with a touch of early Synthpop. A top song from what is arguably the best year in music ever. with three more still to go. 6. Thriller - Michael JacksonThis might be my favorite of the Michael Jackson tracks depending on whet time of the year we are in. If you are a fan of mean basslines look no further. 5. Beat It - Michael JacksonSometimes I wanna slot this one higher than "Thriller", but it just isn't as epic as "Thriller". It does rock nicely sandwiched in between an 80's mixtape. 4. Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen Epic jam. I love evrything haters hate about it. Including the fact that I have heard it one zillion times on the radio and by choice. IMOP it should have won. It throws everything into it, but the kitchen sink and breaks all music barriers, but still rocks my way. The ranks are pretty scattered. If you gave this song anything below a #20 you should be tagged #RayFoster..and those who saw the movie know exactly what I mean. 3. September - Earth, Wind & FireI don't come across this one that much. I'm more familiar with "Let's Groove" and my favorite "Boogie Wonderland" that has everything to do with the Emotions cameo vocals. This is still a great song. One of their best. 2. Take On Me - a-Ha Synthpop at it finest hour. A classic that misses my top 10, but is still one of my 1985 favs of that year. Blame it on all those Queen songs this list featured. After all these years I still go off key a little in that last scream. This one is somehow harder for me to hold that Brad Delp's "More Than A Feeling" note. The upside to that story is that I can play "Take On Me"'s synth chord progression like a pro. 1. Billie Jean - Michael JacksonThis settles it. 1983 is not only the best year in music, but the 80's era of music slays all, and I fully agree. This has never been my favorite Michael Jackson song (the lyrics never struck me as the best theme for a song) , but it rides on Bassline Fireball and it had enough gass to go to the top. mikeriveraReally cool idea for an RD. 80's era slays all. I rest my case.

Aw cmon if a Michael Jackson song had to win it couldn't be Thriller? Oh well there's no real losers here, this list was banger after banger after banger. Thanks so much for calculating the list and putting this on Mike. It was... I was gonna say interesting but that'd be a lie when it's the only non-Hot 100 rankdown where I knew every song going in lol, but it sure was one of the most fun ever!

Comments on 10-1:
10. I love "Total Eclipse of the Heart." I wasn't expecting it to make the Top 10 and would have preferred a few other songs to make it there over this but I don't mind this being here. A great song!
9. Ooh omg I'm kinda surprised I had "Gangsta's Paradise" at 11th as I thought this was my #4, lmao. I am sure two of the MJ songs are my highest ranks. But anyway, yayy I do love this song and so glad to see it ranked as the top song of the 1990s! This song is such a classic to me!
8. I'm still so pleasantly surprised at how "Blinding Lights" made it all the way to #8 with being the newest and youngest song of this list. I do love this song but struggled on how to rank this amongst songs so much older than this. I could have ranked it higher than 25th, honestly. But eh, it still did really well and I'm happy for it. Nice at no Bottom 15 rankings for this.
7. Love/really like "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" and good on this making it to #7. I don't love it nearly as much to rank it this high but again, this is a great classic song that I do really enjoy!
6. Aww I'm sad that "Thriller" couldn't have pulled out the win or be the last standing Michael Jackson track, but this is such an iconic song, video and just an overall piece of music! I'm glad that this made it all the way to #6 as I was just really hoping for Top 10 for this! Glad to see that this didn't have any Bottom 30 ranks either! :omg:
5. Love "Beat It" and this is another one of the many iconic songs from Michael Jackson. It was my least favorite of his songs of the three, so I am bummed that it beat out "Thriller." But not too bummed as I do still really love this song. Ugh now I'm getting worried that two of my lower ranked songs could win, lmao. Nicee that this has the 7th lowest standard deviation.
4. "Bohemian Rhapsody" is a classic iconic song and it's a shame that this couldn't have won when it was looking pretty destined to achieve that. :( I do love this and think it's a fantastic song even if it's not one of my top personal favorites.
3. "September" is a great classic song that I do really enjoy a lot. It's not one of those songs I would play on my own but I enjoy it whenever I listen to it. I would have preferred BoRhap as the last standing song from the '70s but this is a good choice for that honor. Impressive how this got to 3rd with no #1 rankings.
OMGG wow.... so it's my #4 vs. my #65 (my lowest rank of the Top 10). Really hoping for my #4 to win.....
2. Oooh phew, that was scary. "Take on Me" is a great classic song from the '80s. But it's never been one of my favorites, song I really love or a song I play on my own. But I do like and enjoy it whenever I do listen to it. Just glad it didn't win, haha. But I get the strong love of it from others! It's impressive how this got to #2 without any #1 rankings.
1. Yayy I really love "Billie Jean," which was my 2nd highest ranked song of the Top 10 at #4. Lovee this and soo happy to see this win the whole game! This is a great classic and memorable song from Michael. Nice to see this not get any Bottom 25 rankings either. And wow 5th lowest standard deviation is impressive - all of Michael's songs were in the lowest 10 S.D.'s. :o
Ooof ouch at coming in 32nd with a 30.06 score in closeness ranks. Not so good, lol.
Thanks for hosting this game, Mike. This was a lot of fun to be apart of especially as this was one of my first rankdown games here!

Again, just because Blinding Lights is a relatively new song doesn't mean it couldn't or shouldn't do well in a rankdown like this. I haven't seen other rankdowns in this forum that included The Weeknd's songs, but given the song's popularity, positive reception, and strong 80s vibes, it doesn't surprise me to see it finish right next to the other classics from the 70s/80s while hit songs from Maroon 5 or Ed Sheeran are easier to dislike. Personally, I would have ranked Blinding Lights in my top 30 somewhere along with Thriller, Billie Jean, and Gangsta's Paradise.

I love "Blinding Lights" and am glad to see it do really well here and was able to stand against the more classic songs, since a lot of the 2010 songs didn't do as well.
