This is one of those songs that I respect more than I actually enjoy, but I don’t think any song on this list had as much impact on the landscape of music as this one. It was in the top 10 until the final 2 entries.

Michael Jackson will get 3 shots at getting the number 1 song, as all 3 of his biggest hits off Thriller made it. Beat It, Billie Jean, and Thriller are all safe

of the remaining songs my 57 is my lowest remaining so if any of these were to be #11 i'd prefer it would be that but everything remaining is good so it's really whatever at this point

I really love to bust this one out and bless the rains down in Africa (pun intended) every once in a while

Paint It Black is easily one of my favorites from this list. Nothing annoys me about the song and it would have almost been my #1 pick.

I prefer Viva La Vida over The Scientist by Coldplay because of the instrumentation, also one of my favorites on this list, but the latter is definitely the better song for singing competitions.

Dancing Queen and Stayin' Alive are both a bit annoying to me because of the catchy vocals and I've heard them too many times, but still better than many songs on this list. (That video of North Korea though made me laugh)

I tune out if I hear Toto's Africa playing on the radio but it's tolerable.

Smells Like Teen Spirit is still enjoyable to hear, but now I remember it for being featured in this movie:

Really glad to see Nirvana make it all the way to 12 especially since I had no idea where to predict them to land. A true rock masterpiece.

It had the greatest chart run in the history of the Billboard Hot 100. Now, despite being by far the youngest song on this list, it’ll get a chance to be #1 in this rankdown. Blinding Lights is safe

I really tried to squeeze more rap songs on this list, but alas, the numbers just weren’t there. That said, of the four we got, it’s fitting that this, the first rap song to top a year end list, is the one that made it into the top 10. Gangsta’s Paradise is safe

The late Jim Steinman may have had a controversial legacy towards the end of his life, but pairing his dramatic production with the vocal powerhouse that is Bonnie Tyler was one of the best musical ideas of the 80s. Total Eclipse of the Heart is safe.

If this is the only Earth, Wind & Fire song you’ve ever heard, do yourself a favor and listen to more of their songs; they’re R&B gods. That said, this song is the perfect representative of who they are as a band, and I can’t imagine a world without it. Every year when the fall comes around, you know I’m gonna be turning this song on as I get lost in the joyful bliss. September is safe.

As It Was is more like Take On Me. Blinding Lights is more like Young Turks by Rod Stewart.

1983 is the greatest year in music history. It’s so amazing that FOUR of the songs in this top 10 are from that year end, including this iconic synthpop masterpiece. Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) is safe.

Glad I wasn’t the only one who picked up on how similar As it Was sounds to Take On Me. Also, massive W on vouching for Let’s Groove
