81. Rock Around the Clock - Bill Haley & His CometsThis right here was my dad's favoitesong of all time. I know this because no matter what he would be right there waiting to hear it at the start of "Happy Days" I only knew this song from "Happy Days" reruns. It's hilarious our host calls this rock "primitive". Not sure if you just came up with the saying, but it was considered "primitive" back in those days by the moms and pops of those teens rocking N rolling. Maytbe even one of the episodes was dedicated to the "primitive" rock n roll. I thought that was funny, but yeah this rocks through the eras. I like rock n roll as much as anyone (i ranked Jailhouse Rock a lot higher and wish there were more 50s rock n roll on the list), but Rock Around the Clock is just too simple for me to get into🤷🏽♂️

If we're gonna talk musicals, throw in some Sound of Music tracks, I would've had them high.

This is gonna be a bloodbath, lol can't wait. I definitely had some controversial takes as you’re number 1 in closeness, so I’m going to wonder what takes are controversial when the rankdown ends.

90. thinking out loud - i think X might be Ed's best album, but from the first listen, thinking out loud was my least favourite song. it already sounded date and tired. i don't mind it but knowing that he's basically tried to recreate it 8 times since somehow makes it worse. my ranking (#39 lol) implies that it's out way too early. This is true. I keep seeing other people mention songs that should be out by now and I fully agree.
89. despacito - you know, i don't hate this. but i would rather listen to the bayside boys remix of macarena.
88. everything i do i do it for you - i've never given Bryan adams much thought over the years but for some reason, it's occurred to me fairly recently - as in, over the past couple months, that i don't think i like him. Or at least, i've come to realize how bland he is. Maybe it's growing up in Canada and seeing all the homegrown pride toward him over the years, but... it seems homegrown pride in Canadian acts has dissipated since Bieber and Drake have become international stars. Maybe now we're all realizing that Bryan adams wasn't all that wonderful afterall?
87. happy - ugh~ bye (yet somehow i still ranked it higher than the final result and i still feel like it overstayed)
86. moves like jagger - i feel like we all see this song as the transition between old maroon 5 and new maroon 5. tbh, i kinda like it. definitely a lot worse still remains
85. see you again - case in point. also i think this is the first reveal where my rank is lower than the final result (#93 for me).
84. thunderstruck - sorry rockheads. i never liked AC/DC. i can get the appeal though. i just didn't like them
83. lean on - no kidding about the 2010s purge. I think most of us expected the newer songs to outlast most other decades but it seems to be the opposite. I guess because most of us lived through the overplay and lengthy chartruns of a lot of the 2010s songs that we're still sick of them. Lean on is pretty harmless. i find it strange it's even in this list in the first place tbh
82. you're the one that i want - my first memorable time with anything Grease was the Grease megamix that was a top 40 hit in 1997. i much prefer that over the 3 songs it featured, this being one of them.
81. rock around the block - i actually think i might have underranked this one (my #91). i don't really have an opinion on this at all, whereas a lot of the songs i ranked, i do (and dislike them) so i should reevaulate myself.

Darling, I've been "Thinking Out Loud" about the reasons why I'm "Happy". What if I won't "See You Again", who will I "Lean On" to? Or what if I got hit by a "Thunderstruck", will you still "Rock Around the Clock" without me? I don't care about the future, because for now, "Everything I Do, I Do It for You". I know I don't have "Moves Like Jagger", and I'm not the one who moves "Slowly". Because I know that in the end, "You're The One That I Want".
(Also side note, I keep mistaking that Grease song with Beyonce's "Love On Top".)

Rock Around The Clock is kinda primitive, but that isn't bad necessarily. Hopefully Jailhouse Rock isn't out in the next set, since I ranked that one a bit higher
I'm slightly surprised that Sweet Home Alabama stuck around, especially with the lyrics about Alabama governor George Wallace

In Birmingham they loved the governor (boo boo boo)Now we all did what we could doThe first line is sarcastic, given Birmingham was the epicenter of a lot of the Civil Rights Movement and was followed by booing him. That second line might be unclear, but the intent was they did what they could do to vote him out of office. For what it’s worth, when asked about his thoughts on Wallace, Ronnie Van Zant said "Wallace and I have very little in common. I don't like what he says about colored people."

For what it’s worth, when asked about his thoughts on Wallace, Ronnie Van Zant said "Wallace and I have very little in common. I don't like what he says about colored people." That seems fair, though I've seen conflicting statements on it. I think Ed King (another member, and also was in a band called Strawberry Alarm Clock - who made the psychedelic classic "Incense and Peppermints" in 1967) claimed it was different edking.proboards.com/thread/87/secong-helping"I can understand where the 'boo boo boo' would be misunderstood. It's not US going 'boo' ... it's what the Southern man hears the Northern man say every time the Southern man'd say "In Birmingham we love the gov'nor". Get it? "We all did what WE could do!" to get Wallace elected. It's not a popular opinion but Wallace stood for the average white guy in the South. "Watergate doesn't bother me" because that stuff happens in politics...but someone's conscience ought to bother them for what happened to Wallace. Walter Bremer may or may not have been a yankee but he sure destroyed whatever chance Wallace had to be president. And hardly anyone in America noticed. I still like the plaque that hangs here in my office that says I'm an honorary member of the Alabama State Militia...signed personally by George C. Sure, the man had his flaws. But he spoke for the common man of the South. And, whoa, I'm gonna get in trouble over this whole dang post!"

That's Sweet Home Alabama for me. My dad's fav song, and I would hear it constantly as a kid. This is an immigrant in a Colombian, predominantly Spanish-speaking household, very much not the song's target audience, but I guess something about that riff won him over.

When I saw #82 and my ranking to that song was #80 "oh I missed a perfect ranking by two"
Then the very next one (#81) was a perfect ranking...

90. Aww I'm sad to see "Thinking Out Loud" and all of these Ed Sheeran songs show up so early. :( Definitely wished this was higher but not too surprised when his other two songs showed up recently.
89. Not as sad to see "Despacito" showing up after TOL, but I also wish this could have been higher. I am kinda surprised it did rank higher over some other songs.
88. Ooh wow I'm one of the higher rankers once again for "(Everything I Do) I Do it For You." Again another one I'm kinda sad to see show up so soon but with comments posted earlier in here, I'm not too surprised.
87. Aww I love "Happy," and am sad to see it show up already. :'( But again, not really too surprised. Lmao I'm sounding like a broken record with my comments.
86. Love "Moves Like Jagger" and think this is a really fun song. Pretty much the same comments applies to this as the ones I posted already.
85. Love "See You Again" too and again, the same comments I already posted applies to this. Wish this could have been higher but not too surprised it's not.
84. Okay finally one of my lower ranks in "Thunderstuck" shows up. :haha: Not really a fan of this song, but I understand it's a classic. It's just not a song I grew up knowing.
83. Of the 2010s songs purse, I'm fine with "Lean On" showing up. I do really like this but love more of the current songs that ranked lower more.
82. Aww kinda surprised to see "You’re the One That I Want" showing up but I'm okay with the rnaking. This is a really cute, fun classic song. I do think I may have overranked this a bit looking back but oh well.
81. Fine with "Rock Around the Clock" ranking here. It's nice to have a classic song from the 50s amongst this list but also made it difficult on how to rank this.

Every one of these bottom 20 songs is more bearable to me than two or three particular songs from this list that I would rank the lowest.

Ok I finally went through my ranks and got caught up on reveals, and I figured I never did proper comments on these so let me just do that now: 100: Perfectly fine with this being last. Only reason I don't have this as a 0.5 rating on RYM is because Cardi slightly prevents that 99: I don't think there's ever been a point where I've really liked Let Her Go tbh. Sometimes I'm a sucker for cheesy songs, but this is not one of the ones I like. 98: Glad this didn't overstay like it has done previously. Genuinely cannot get into her voice at all here, and like this being such a huge hit continues to baffle me every day. 97: I'll admit, I hate like 99% of Maroon 5's newer music, though this is kind of fun in certain situations. It can get annoying tbf, but sometimes I enjoy listening to it. 96: This definitely hasn't held up super well over the years, but I'll admit I used to love this song when I was younger. It's cute, though I can see why people would find it annoying. 95: I kinda hate that Ed Sheeran has become some icon for love ballads. 94: Tbh not a whole lot sets this apart from Ed's ballads except for the fact that John Legend's voice is a lot better sounding to me. 93: Hmm, not sure if I was expecting this to leave so soon. There are definitely some bad lyrics in it tbf, though the sound of it is fun to listen to in some cases. 92: This was in the bottom 10 yet it still overstayed. Annoying, overplayed song that I continue to like less as time goes on. I swear this song is everywhere. 91: Closer has not aged the best tbf, but I remember the chokehold this had on me in 2016 lol. This was a jam that was great for the summer time. But looking back it's um, not the best. 90: Nice, a perfect ranking 89: Nice, a perfect ranking 88: Yeah this was pretty bad lmao, idk if I've listened to it much before this but I don't have any desire to listen to it after hearing it here. 87: Overplayed but not to the same extent as Shape Of You. This one is kind of fun at times 86: Not sure what to say about this that I haven't already said previously, but honestly glad this left so early (as I feel like it has over performed in previous rankdowns). 85: Kind of have a soft spot for See You Again. It's not that good of a song, but something about it has always been enjoyable to listen to. 84: Getting flashbacks to some parties I've gone to in the past lol83: I kind of expected this to end up *slightly* higher than this. This is one of the few songs from the 2015 year end that I enjoy. 82: Always been kinda mixed on this. I did do theatre in high school and have generally been a musical fan, though maybe actually seeing this movie/show in full would help me appreciate the song more. 81: This one really surprises me! I would've expected this to perform better by being a generally well-rounded and appreciated song

I’m so happy the Cold War is over. Can you imagine having to worry about nuclear war with Russia? That sounds so stressful. Glad we have a good relationship with them now. This song to me is no different than the usual ballad, only difference being it's nine minutes long.
