So just to show the differences between US Audiences and other audience: Envolver is currently #1 in Brazil with 4,137,873 streams Heat Waves is #1 in America with 956,761 That's on Spotify, I assume. What about overall streams? I don't know how big Apple Music and other platforms are in Brazil.

So just to show the differences between US Audiences and other audience: Envolver is currently #1 in Brazil with 4,137,873 streams Heat Waves is #1 in America with 956,761 In fact, the entire top 4 in Spotify Brazil have more streams than Heat Waves in The US. Yesterday, Plan A also got over 1 million in Argentina and Spain, while still getting more than 1 million streams today in Mexico. There's also the #1 in Indonesia with more than 1 million daily streams. While the charts in English-speaking countries had been stale as s**t for months, the rest of the world continues to have a lot of action and had been posting record numbers.

UK is not stale, the top 2 has 500k+ there. It's US and Australia that have nothing going on.

So we can agree that the fact that new music consumption is monotonous and stalled is just an US (Australia?...) thing.
Brasil, Indonesia, Argentina, Spain charts getting that huge debut numbers and being stable.
Also KING of Reggaeton Daddy Yankee releasing his last album before he retires, an epic album!! . Hope he gets his last hit!

Those who are complaining about a lack of "superstars" like those back from the 80s-2000s or that they're missing that wow factor, I think y'all are looking in the wrong places by checking America. Because in Latin America and Asia, there are superstars. Y'all can say BTS ARMY is just on Twitter but here in Asia, they're superstars: they have reality shows and big brand deals as a group and as solo acts for a reason. Same with any other k-pop group/soloist, even smaller ones have followings. Reality shows and game shows are a part of Asian culture for this reason. Same with reggaeton acts: there was a reason that for awhile they got billions of views on YouTube and our viewed as superstars outside of English speaking countries.

Yeah, and I also think looking to the charts for superstars the way they used to be is going to lead to disappointment too. I don’t think music is made and promoted to *all* of the population anymore (not that it ever was I suppose, but we were always lead to believe that it was, or that the only population that mattered was white, young to middle age, and straight). I feel like nowadays music is made that targets specific audiences and demographics and there’s less of a need to win the attention of everyone else. Certainly it’s not a bad thing if it happens but the segmentation of music seems to be here to stay. You can have superstars and icons in one area/demographic and have others never know they exist.

Could this be blamed on the seasons? It's summer/early fall in Brazil and the southern hemisphere, while the north is still waking up from winter. Summer/early fall is generally the time with the biggest streaming numbers in the US (Stay-Donda-CLB), so this may also be true with the rest of the world

“Make Up Sex” sounds like a carbon copy of “My Ex’s Best Friend.” But it’s not as good. The 2:00 length is obvious bait to get bigger streaming numbers.

Already up to #4 at Apple Music. What’s the story behind them/ who are they? Where’d this song come from / why is top 10 on Spotify / Apple? TikTok.
"Artist: Yahritza y Su Esencia
Country: U.S. (Washington)
Why They Should Be On Your Radar: She’s here to revolutionize the corrido tumbado movement. Mark my words. Yahritza Martinez, a 15-year-old rising act from Yakima, Washington, has created a buzz on TikTok with her heartfelt covers, where she’s often accompanied by her older brothers on the bass, 12-string guitar, and requintos. I stumbled across her project when she popped up on my For You Page with a behind-the-scenes video where she’s seen singing “trato de olvidarte esta noche, como deberia de hacer hace tiempo” (I try to forget about you tonight, how I should’ve done a long time ago). The 15-second clip, first published on February 24, has resonated with users on the app, currently amassing over 115K video creations—without the single even out. It’s a combination of a very talented young lady with a mesmerizing high-pitched range and mature lyrics that hit the soul. Yahritza was immediately discovered by Legado 7 and was signed to their indie label Lumbre Music. On March 25, following its viral demand on social media, Yahritza y Su Esencia (group name of her and her brothers Jairo and Manolo) will release her debut single “Soy El Unico.” — J.R."

Between Yahritza and Dove Cameron (who is from the Seattle area), 2022 has been a good year for TikTok songs by artists from Washington state.

That actually got me thinking... Kinda like what's happening on TV now with those thousand of shows on streaming, cable and broadcast, there are few current shows that we can consider as wide appealing as the hits of the past. There are hits for certain demographics/areas only, Like let's say Yellowstone is a big ratings cable hit in the US but it's not a buzzy twitter show/ appealing to the east and west coast. I check out what's a hit on Netflix, while there are the obvious and buzzy smashes like Squid Game, there's a quiet hit in Virgin River!
