I love all except "Bon Appetit". The lack of memorable hook/chorus and fact it was a song chosen to help spearhead her "purposeful pop" era was embarrassing. lol Actually I've loved her entire string of singles post Witness with the exception of "Small Talk" (which had similar issues with lacking a memorable hook/chorus as "Bon Appetit"). Smile is still a solid album and IMO is much stronger than Witness. It's really the forgotten Katy album, but it deserved better. "Daises", "Harleys In Hawaii", and "Never Really Over" are all great pop songs IMO (with "NRO" being right up there with her biggest hits quality wise).

All worthy of being bigger hits + Harleys In Hawaii. Katy really has some pop gems in her post-Prism discography.

Can you imagine if she had released "Cry About It Later" instead of "Small Talk" as single #2 and then actually promoted "Harleys in Hawaii" as single #3? I think we would've had three hits in a row with those.

With the "buckle Up" comment it makes me wonder if "CARS" has a play in it, or if the title will have Cars in it or something. Many, like myself, saw the logo she posted relating to Disney's Cars.. we also know American Idol is owned by Disney in which she of course was judge.. and buckle up meaning a seat belt (?)

Bon Appetit came out at midnight on my 24th birthday. It was such a moment for me, haha.

The beat drop is amazing, when it finally gets going.

I think they should have skipped starting with the first chorus, it should have started with the first verse, and the best could have dropped with the first chorus.

I really hope she drops the lead on May 31, perfect full circle moment from 5 years ago.

I was gonna say "Bon Appetit" remains a horrible single choice and it logically derailed the entire project but tbh I can't think of a better single choice on Witness either. The opposite of Smile where there were very logical choices instead of their choices of "Small Talk", or even worse "not doing anything whatsoever with the project after Daisies".

I think "Roulette" would've worked better than "Bon Appetit" IMO.

Maybe. BA did have that weird Youtube resurgence so overall I'd say it isn't a massive embarrassment anymore. I still am not sure of what happened there tho. Did people reconnect with the video? Or was it a glitch? who knows.

The worst part of Witness still has to be the Swish Swish music video. It turned a lowkey bop into a entire viral-wannabe cringefest.

I don't think the resurgence of the "Bon Appetit" video had so much to do with a late acquired appreciation for the video as it did with it becaming notoriously cringe-worthy/bad. Like a lot of people were making fun of the way her arms were pulled like dough and her body kneaded. Her boiling in a pot etc. I'd say it became more popular through being infamous than being respected. Then you had that whole cringy viral performance with Migos that added to the video's popularity...lol.

It seems like the norm now where an artist will drop a hint that something is coming and then it’s weeks or months until something actually does. It’s tiring and pointless tbh. The clues and teasers don’t even excite me anymore because I feel like they’re meaningless without something substantial like a date or a countdown.

I must admit, even though I fell off the Katy Perry bandwagon pretty hard around 2020, I’m really looking forward to this. I’ve even revisited Smile and found a lot of appreciation for it, particularly when it comes to “Only Love”. That song could’ve killed on Hot AC.

Yeah, it does make sense. In most cases, once the album is out, the era is usually pretty much over anyway with the exception of whatever the current single's chart performance is and whether there's a tour or not. I just find it annoying.
