I can say I didn't dislike any song in this rankdown. There were a few I was "meh" about (more so some of them have a similar vibe and run together to me), but for the most part I liked everything so a low ranking wasn't intended negatively. Additionally a few songs suffered from me not being familiar with them. I intentionally listened to everything multiple times, but even so that can't compete against songs I've loved for literal decades. (Though I will say "Turning Point" was a great discovery for me and did well in my rankdown despite my not being overly familiar with it until now.)

30. Just To Be Close To You - The CommodoresFrom their album Hot On The Tracks, "Just To Be Close To You" was the second of seven soul #1s for this band from Tuskegee, Alabama. Written by Lionel Richie, it also made its way into the Top 10 on the Hot 100. This marks the second time that The Commodores have finished last in this series. "Still" was the first song out in the 1979 rankdown. StatsChart Entry: September 4, 1976 Peak Date: October 9, 1976 Weeks At #1: 2 Weeks In Top 10: 8 Weeks On Chart: 18 Hot 100 Peak: #7 Points: 142 Average: 24.55 Standard Deviation: 6.155 (10th lowest)The next reveal has the 2nd lowest SD. No one loses a Top 10, but five of you will lose a Top 20. Well DAMN y'all...it wasn't THAT bad. I do think there are few other songs from the list that are much more deserving of this rank, imo

OMG this was such a gem to me; it was a real discovery. It reminds me of shag music.

Crazy thing is most of these songs like a good 90% are classics so it can go either way. But I'm banking on Love Hangover, Sweet Thing, and Young Hearts Run Free to make the top 5

Just To Be Close To You is a nice song ,but there was just something lifeless about it.

My bottom 3 is out and 2 perfect scores to boot.
That Commodores song was DOA for me. Commodores are very hit and miss for me, more misses than hits but love Brick House and have a real soft spot for Oh No.

This extra was the first charted single in the US by a woman who would become one of the biggest and most influential artists of the disco era. It peaked at #3 on the soul chart and #2 on the Hot 100.
Here it is in its nearly 17-minute glory, which according to the BBC, had 23 "orgasms".

I know y'all f**king lying Ha it's a terrific vocal. What holds it back for me a bit is that the chorus just feels like an extension of the verse. I do think it's a bit low here, but there are so many good songs in this rankdown, so something has to be low.

Boogie Fever sounds like it should've been a theme song for a 70s sitcom show.
