Continuing on our '70s kick, 1976 gets its turn in the spotlight. Twenty-nine singles topped the soul chart, but one of them was a double-sided single. Kicking off the extras is the breakthrough hit on the Hot 100 for this Jersey-based band fronted by George Clinton, peaking at #15. It also peaked at #5 on the soul chart and was sampled numerous times, including an interpolation in the MC Hammer song "Turn This Mutha Out".
