Really interesting that Lil Nas X's new song is nowhere to be found in the Spotify or Apple Music Top 200. I wonder if he's still stuck in the position where he needs a viral moment to propel his songs on streaming.

Fascinating that success in the TikTok era is just so random. Lizzo, Jack Harlow, Billie Eilish, LNX...all of these newer artists seem to have really hit-or-miss success on streaming. They're basically at the whims of TikTok's algorithm - although as LNX has shown, it's possible to make your own viral moment. It's such a change from the 2010s megastars who could reliably succeed with singles just off of their fanbase's hype. It's going to be fascinating to see what happens with Olivia's 2nd album.

Sam and Kim's performance reminds me of Jack Harlow's "First Class." we all knew there was some hype for it based on TikTok popularity but I don't think many people thought it would smash out the gate and debut at No. 1. I sense a similar level of "what is going on?!?!" with this one. not saying it'll debut at No. 1, but the initial feelings around the songs' popularity seem comparable.

Does the fact that Star Walkin' wasn't released until 11am yesterday somehow make it ineligible and explain why it didn't make the Spotify top 200? It's kind of unfathomable that it otherwise wouldn't have made it, especially since it was pretty hyped up and has decent YouTube views and currently #14 on iTunes. That wouldn't explain though why it's also missing from AM top 200.

it’s not a good song IMO but the charts are weak and a number 1 is very possible

I don’t think 6 weeks is enough time for any song to make a year end list barring something like Hello or CITW 1997 happens, and I don’t this is gonna be an exception. I could see it going number-one though.

6 weeks is easily enough time. Aiw had its spot easily clinched at 5 weeks. Way 2 Sexy had 9 weeks and it was in the top 50. I think it'll actually end up making it.

^It would almost have to be #1 all 6 weeks to have a chance to make it. But definitely becoming #1 is probably in play until holiday songs (mainly AIWFCIY) gain strength and end up blocking most non-holiday songs.

Doesn't make sense as Unholy was released 1pm yesterday and debuted at #4 on US Spotify.

I can't see Unholy being a long lasting success though. It's fairly easy to go top 5 on AM for a day or two with hype only. Top ten debut on Hot 100 would be great for both acts.

Just noticed Omar Apollo in the top 20 on Spotify. He's probably the most exciting young name in modern R&B together with Brent Faiyaz. So thrilled that both are seeing mainstream success this year. It really does seem like R&B is on the verge of dominating the latter half of this decade

I don't think so. Unholy was released even later and debuted on the charts.
