Actually not sure. It looks like there will be a mix of BDS and Mediabase number for this week's radio number, at least judging from what will happen to country charts.

Starting with the Billboard charts dated Nov.12, all rankings, including Country Airplay, that reflect radio airplay (by audience and/or plays) in the United States and Canada will be sourced by data from Mediabase, as Luminate eliminates the BDS platform.

The airplay charts that will be finalized on Monday, Nov. 7 (and dated Nov. 12) will be the first to use Mediabase data, while the multimetric Hot Country Songs chart dated Nov. 12 will incorporate BDS data for Oct. 28-31 and Mediabase data for Nov. 1-3. Thereafter, Mediabase data will fuel the chart’s airplay feed, and Luminate’s streaming and sales data will continue to power the ranking’s other measurements.

(Just a tidbit, you may remember that in the original announcement article by Billboard, it says the transition would occur in December instead of November)

i do remember it being in december so it was quite a surprise that they will transition as early as november.

i guess that answers our questions on what they would use this week since hot country songs (and other genre specific charts) use the same methodology as the hot 100. now i wonder if that would have a significant impact on songs charting this week, especially streaming-driven songs like the taylor swift deep cuts.

Lol ok. It rose in sales 9% that week to 118,000 total, but more so it had the second largest airplay gain of any song on the Hot 100 that week. "I Knew I Loved You" was falling in sales and airplay at that point, and the week prior to "TGIFY" moving to #1, Billboard even noted the big sales drop for "IKILY" boded well for "TGIFY." The next week "IKILY" took the #1 position back because it gained in radio impressions again; it actually hit its highest total impressions to that point that week (109 million), even though it had been declining for a few weeks prior. "TGIFY" actually moved to #1 on the R&B chart that week, though.

However, that all started to changed during the “Honey-My All-Heartbreaker-Thank God I Found You-Loverboy” period, with only “Heartbreaker” being seen as a ‘genuine’ number one hit.

I was on the forums then and everyone and their mother was accusing Sony/Tommy Mattola of payola and implementing shady tactics to get Carey to #1.

- Then there was the mass discount saga with “My All” being sold for 39c in some a record stores and radio not truly responding well to her singles at all, especially Pop radio.

- Then there was the drama with some record stores giving you a free physical copy of “Thank God I Found You” if you purchased one CD and it counting as two sales.

- Then of course there’s the infamous “Loverboy” vs. “Bootylicous”.

A lot of it was exaggerated but they were fun times.💀😭

Not the first time I’ve heard this. Seems Sony was just doing the most during that time I read even Michael got a .99c discount for You’re not alone.

Mediabase will likely lessen Drake and 21's impact next week barring Billboard changes their formula to lessen radio's impact. But they will likely still be a threat, though it'd be best to wait til Saturday to see how well they do.

Billboard doesn't note that for "You Are Not Alone," but that doesn't mean it wasn't discounted. It should be noted that week it debuted at #1, it was actually #2 in sales behind "Gangsta's Paradise" but its lead in airplay helped it overtake "GP" for that one week.

Some other #1s that were discounted:
The week "Bills, Bills, Bills" moved to #1 Billboard also noted it was 'sale-priced.'
"Bailamos" was 'deeply discounted' when it was #1 (and the "Genie" single had been deleted, showing that was also a common practice).

I think this is just an assumption that people run with. They're just changing vendors for airplay data, nothing has been said about how that will affect radio's influence on Hot 100 points. They may even have their own filtered panel from Mediabase's full panel. I think we'll find out soon enough.

This is a fair point. I def don't see this song as a #1, and it will likely plummet off the chart quickly, but I kinda view these type of #1's as an exchange for the missed 'deserved' opportunities. Lots of artists have #1's like this that sort of make up for massive hits not getting the top slot (Mariah, Taylor, Ari) so only fair Riri gets one. She's had several #2 hits that made a big impact and others even lower (like 'Needed Me', 'Love On the Brain') that if you told me had hit #1 I would think completely made sense.

This whole playing-the-game/organic v inorganic narrative/argument is so tired, especially because it's really just a back and forth between fans and non-fans.

The game has always been there, and there have always been players (some better than others), and added pieces, etc, to win. Not everyone plays the game, or is in a position to top the charts to even need the added pieces. But doing things to maximize the chance of a #1 is a move as old as time, some more obvious than others.

WIth so much focus on the charts in the industry, why WOULDN'T you play the game to maximize performance? It's a business. The "who has the most organic success" or "who is the most desperate" never-ending back and forth among stans has nothing to do with the business, it's just a way to criticize and diminish.

It's a no-win - if the label doesn't do enough to get a song to #1, they're worthless If they do what it takes, it's desperate. If someone blows it out of the park and sets records, they're obsessed with the charts.

Regardless of anything, this just feels odd. The song hasn't been received overly well and had big declines in streaming from its day 1 numbers. For radio to be putting this much into the song each day is pretty wild. These radio numbers would be wild even if the song were #1 in streams, but it feels all the more odd because it's down into the 20s/30s on the main platforms. That's just objectively true.
