Rihanna had a radio deal across multiple formats + comeback hype, so the huge first week on radio isn't unexpected, but it will be interesting to see how it holds on after week 1.
With the Drake/21 Savage album coming tonight + continued streaming decline + big drop in sales + potentially slowing radio, could it maybe break Taylor's record for biggest fall from #1? Probably not unless radio absolutely collapses (unlikely), but it would be an even trade for the #1, imo!

lol also new video was released 12 hours ago. "Rihanna - Lift Me Up (Behind The Scenes)" Alternate Covers is the tell-tale sign of desperation. And in the being fair, yes it was also desperate what Taylor did last week but at least we now know that even if she hasn't done that, she'd have the top spot.

Y'all forgot the 'buy it again' campaign for OG and the wretched Britney remix for S&M. I'm a stan so I'm glad both songs nabbed #1. Let's not act like this is RiRi's first push to get a #1.

well to be fair, we're still unsure if billboard will switch to mediabase this week. the billboard article mentioning lift me up's first 3 days performance seems to still be using nielsen's numbers (26.3m vs 34.23m). maybe they'd still use nielsen numbers this week for consistency sake and switch to mediabase next week.Actually not sure. It looks like there will be a mix of BDS and Mediabase number for this week's radio number, at least judging from what will happen to country charts. (Just a tidbit, you may remember that in the original announcement article by Billboard, it says the transition would occur in December instead of November) So by "eliminate the BDS platform" does this mean they're going to ditch over 3 decades worth of archived data and station logs? If that's the case someone should probably start archiving as much of it as they can. That shit is historic and shouldn't just be deleted in seconds.

looks like rihanna has led exactly one #2 hit, her very first song. I don't see an "exchange for the missed 'deserved' opportunities." She's had two other #2 hits where her hook was vital to their success. She's had multiple other top 3, 5 and 10 hits that permeated public consciousness, 'felt' bigger than some #1's and perhaps with the right push could have gotten there. It's all subjective, so you can disagree, but I don't think this is necessarily worse than other flash-in-the-pan #1's from celebrities. Even though I hate radio's power and think this is a super odd fit, it is also unsurprising that radio would want to make fetch happen with a song from one of the biggest artists of the century making a return after 6 years.

Anti-Hero didn't have any alternate covers tho I think you mean the two instrumentals from those tracks to secure the entire Top 10 (Aka scam the chart swifties)

So, it wasn't close to #1, because Despacito had massive lead throughout all Summer and then other (Cardi, then Logic/Alessia, etc) songs quickly overtake it .

Taylor just dropped an instrumental of Anti-Hero on her site. A little late to play but we'll see.

I wouldn’t count out swift just yet… I would assume another 7 points could come from the instrumental.

I hope Taylor can stay at #1. She's #1 on Spotify, Apple Music, and iTunes. It's gaining radio at a steady rate and will have these extra webstore sales as well. If that isn't enough for #1... that would be ridiculous.

If Rihanna can get a number with THIS kinda streaming… while getting GAPPED pretty hard by Taylor, I’d be pretty sick no lie lmao. The fact that it’s even a discussion should be enough for Radio to have its power slashed in half.

Look Rih is my favorite act of all time, but if this isn't evidence that sales are still weighed too heavily...

I hope Rihanna does get to #1. The soundtrack release tomorrow and then the film release the week after should hopefully help keep the song somewhat stable. Taylor can then re-claim the #1 spot after. If "Life Me Up" does get to #1, hopefully the lead single for her next album will debut at #1 much more easily.
At least she isn't as unlucky in the US as she is in the UK. She's had 9 #2 peaking hits here (and has had 9 #1s as well).

^ But won't Rihanna's #1 need an asterisk if it only gets there because of the plethora of versions available? Taylor and BTS are playing the same damn game. Stop pretending Taylor is almighty and can do no wrong. Is she playing the game by what's allowed? Hell yes! Do we wish our faves probably played the game as well as Taylor does? Duh! Is it still desperate as f**k, inconsiderate to her fans, and come with an added asterisk? ALSO f**kinG HELL YES!!

8(=) Nicki Minaj - Super Freaky Girl 59.42(+1.34) Surprised radio likes the song this much and I'm not complaining tho, one of the catchiest 2022 songs.
