Only Here for a Little While" was released in November 1990 as the second single from Billy Dean's debut album, Young Man, and was his fist top 5 country hit. Even though it began its journey near the bottom 30, this song quickly ascended into the top 20, thanks to the backing of a top 25 ranking by kw9461 and a singular top 10 nod from nathanalbright. Although it eventually settled down a bit, it consistently vied for a spot in the top 30 throughout its run. It appeared all but certain to secure that position until a last-minute bottom 30 ranking from LBTrocks shook things up.

Stats for #33:
Only five participants ranked the next song outside of their top half, and two of those placements were puzzling bottom 5 rankings. Everyone else positioned this track inside their top 50, with the song earning one top 5 spot and one top 10 placement. This is also the first song to be eliminated that consistently held a position within the top 40 throughout its entire run.

"Daddy's Come Around" was released in November 1990 as the first single from Paul Overstreet's third studio album, Heroes, and went on to become his only number one country hit as a solo artist (he secured many more as a songwriter!). This marks the first song to exit the rankdown that consistently held a spot within the top 40 throughout its entire run. This achievement can be attributed to its thirteen rankings within the top half, the majority of which were within the top 30. Notably, CoJoFan placed it in their top 5, and bigd79 ranked it within their top 10. This song often flirted with the top 30, but a third bottom 20 ranking from taylor is terrified pushed it beyond that threshold. The other two rankings were rather intriguing, as both 🌺CountryLineDancer and nathanalbright positioned it in their bottom 5, with the latter even designating it as their runner-up for last place. I've always held a special fondness for this Paul Overstreet song, and it's one I can never tire of hearing. I'm pleasantly surprised to see it perform so well here!

While some here may not be particularly familiar with Paul Overstreet as a solo artist, I can guarantee that you're well-acquainted with his remarkable body of work as a songwriter. This includes but is not limited to hits like "Deeper Than The Holler," "Diggin' Up Bones," "Forever and Ever, Amen," and "On the Other Hand" performed by Randy Travis, as well as "Love Can Build a Bridge" by The Judds, "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy" by Kenny Chesney, "Some Beach" by Blake Shelton, and, of course, the timeless "When You Say Nothing At All," originally by Keith Whitley and later covered by Alison Krauss.
And for many of you here, Chord Overstreet, his son, may be a familiar name thanks to his role on the popular TV series Glee!

As for what misses the top 30, I'll say: "The Chill Of An Early Fall" "We Both Walk" "In A Different Light" "Down Home" "Daddy's Come Around"Well, you've got one prediction correct at least! Only two more songs to go before we reveal the top 30! Any guesses on which two songs they might be? Stay tuned to find out!

Man, "Only Here for a Little While" is a go-to for me, but I had a feeling it was on some type of borrowed time given the lack of enthusiasm behind Billy Dean in general. Was afraid that "Daddy's Come Around" would get tanked, but either way it goes, it's still a jam. On the other hand, "Unanswered Prayers" can go any any time now...

Before we reveal the top 30 songs later this afternoon, let's take a moment to revisit the 26th Academy of Country Music Awards. This memorable event was hosted by the talented trio of Clint Black, Kathy Mattea, and George Strait. It was broadcast live from the Universal Amphitheatre in Los Angeles on April 24th, 1991.
The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly Garth Brooks, who managed to sweep the awards show, clinching an impressive six awards. These accolades included Entertainer of the Year, Top Male Vocalist, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Single of the Year, and Video of the Year.
In addition to Garth Brooks' dominance, the evening also saw some rising stars receive recognition. Alan Jackson, Shelby Lynne, and Pirates of the Mississippi were among those honored with top new awards. Notably, Reba McEntire secured her sixth Top Female Vocalist of the Year award, further solidifying her status as a country music legend.

"We Both Walk" was released in March 1991 as the first single from Lorrie Morgan's second studio album Something in Red and went on to become her fourth top 5 country hit. This song secured a noteworthy top 5 ranking courtesy of .indulgecountry, and it received a pair of top 10 rankings from both someguy and castleoblivion26. In total, it amassed a remarkable nine rankings, all of which fell within the top half, cementing its position as a formidable contender. This has consistently remained one of my all-time favorite Lorrie songs, and I never tire of listening to it. Yet, I must admit, I'm somewhat surprised to witness its impressive performance here!

"Unanswered Prayers" hit the airwaves in October 1990 as the second single from Garth Brooks' album No Fences, eventually becoming his fourth No. 1 country hit. Despite debuting at the lower end of the top half, it swiftly surged into the top 15, thanks to its first top 5 ranking by someguy, maintaining a consistent presence within the top 15 throughout most of its chart run. Despite collecting a total of fourteen rankings, all of which remained within the top half, the song ultimately slipped outside the top 20. This drop can be attributed to its four lowest rankings, all occurring within the final quarter of the competition. These included a bottom 20 placement by Cody Wants Out..., followed by a bottom 10 from .indulgecountry, and culminating with a pair of bottom 5 rankings, both given by LBTrocks and taylor is terrified, with the latter's ranking being their runner-up for last place. This track only slipped to the back of my top 40 due to the extensive overplay it has received over the years. Looking back, I do believe I underranked it, and in hindsight, it probably deserved a spot in my top 30 as I do appreciate the song.

"Unanswered Prayers" is horrendous. So glad that monstrosity missed the top 30. I was shocked it wasn't my last place, but that Ronnie Milsap song was so terrible i couldn't justify putting it higher than 'UP'
Also hi first comment I made in this whole thread lol, Pulse has been so buggy for me I hardly get on here anymore.

“Unanswered Prayers” is one of the better ones from Garth, so sad to see it leaving before his other songs.

Never liked "Unanswered Prayers"; I somehow found the lyrics super cheesy (cheesier than Giordano's even!) There are a few songs that I both fear and suspect are running on fumes atm (maybe "Someday", "Feed Jake", "I'm That Kind of Girl", "Ghost in This House", "In a Different Light"). Hopefully there won't be as many gut punches tossed out compared to much earlier (haven't forgotten how "Loving Blind" got dunked; the steel guitar in that was magnificent).

Good evening, Tractors! I'm going to hold off on delving into the top 30 until tomorrow. In the meantime, let's take one last look back at the 25th Annual Country Music Association Awards, which were held in Nashville on October 2nd, 1991. The show was hosted by Reba McEntire and had the special presence of both President George and Barbara Bush in attendance for the evening's events.
Much like the ACM Awards, the big winner of the night was Garth Brooks. He was crowned the Entertainer of the Year and also took home the honors for Album of the Year, Single of the Year, and Video of the Year.
Vince Gill was another significant winner that night, securing both the Male Vocalist of the Year and Song of the Year awards. Tanya Tucker had a memorable moment, winning her first Female Vocalist of the Year trophy. The Kentucky Headhunters also made their mark by winning Vocal Group of the Year for the second year in a row.

Apologies for having made barely any commentary. I’m just so busy anymore, and Pulse’s recent issues haven’t helped. It seems to be getting much better as of late however, so I’ll try to dip back into the discussion when I can!
I just wanted to express my SHOCK at Reba ending at #51 with “Fallin’ Out of Love.” That’s such a perplexing finish, as it’s such a great song that tells such an engaging story, which is the hallmark of 90s country music in particular. To see near last place rankings for it is rather stunning to me.
I’m also rather surprised to see that “Love Can Build A Bridge” is the most polarizing song of the rankdown. It’s such a beautiful song and holds such a weight now. I would’ve liked to see that one do a little better.
