Stats for #30:
The first song to leave the top 30 only secured its spot in the final stretch, as it hadn't been a contender throughout its run. In total, four participants lose one of their top 10s, while another four shed a bottom 10 (with one of those being someone's last place!).

"Feed Jake" was released in February 1991 as the third single the self-titled debut album of the Pirates of the Mississippi. The song is also the band's highest chart peak, having reached number 15 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks charts. Despite spending most of its run as a top 40 contender, this song surged into the top 25 in the final moments, all thanks to taylor is terrified's top 15. However, it nearly plummeted out of the ranks just as quickly due to a last-minute near-last place vote from LBTrocks. This example is just one of the reasons why this song earned the title of the second most polarizing song in the rankdown, receiving as many top 10s as bottom 10s. Among those, bigd79 can take solace in the fact that his last-place song has finally exited. Nevertheless, the majority of the group ranked this song at or very near their top 30, with nuggie99, kw9461, sabre14, and Kanenrá:ke all placing it within their top 10.

I'm delighted to see "Feed Jake" secure a spot in the top 30, and it's well-deserved, as it's one of the most poignant songs of the year. As I mentioned in a previous post, Pirates of the Mississippi hold a special place for me, as they were the first concert I ever attended when I was probably just 8 years old as my mom took me to their performance at a local county fair in the summer of 1991. I've remained a devoted fan of theirs ever since and still find myself revisiting their debut album a few times each year.

Top 30 for a song that peaked at 15 is good, I guess.
Side note: it amazes me how 3 people can listen to the same song and 1 lovesit, 1 hates it and 1 is "meh". Not just for this song, just in general.

That one line about being gay vs. straight really struck me. “If you get an ear pierced, some will call you gay, but if you drive a pick-up they’ll say, ‘Oh, you must be straight,’”
Also I love dogs with my whole heart so that earned this song a lot of points.

"I've Come to Expect It from You" was released in October 1990 as the third and final single from George Strait's tenth studio album, Livin' It Up. The song reached the pinnacle of the charts, claiming the number 1 spot, where it remained for an impressive five weeks. Additionally, it was the second most played song of the year. This is the first of four songs by George Strait to exit the rankdown leaving "The Chill of an Early Fall", "If I Know Me", and "You Know Me Better Than That" in contention. Despite starting off as a top 10 contender, primarily due to George Strait Junkie's support, this song spent most of its run hovering in and around the top 25. It did, however, manage to maintain a presence in and around the top 20 for a significant portion of its run. It only slipped out of that range in the final stretch, thanks to consecutive bottom 20 rankings from CoJoFan and Kanenrá:ke. A near top 5 ranking from LBTrocks helped push it back inside the top 30 just as the rankdown was nearing its end. Unfortunately, bboat11 is the sole participant who lost a top 5 ranking.

"Down to My Last Teardrop" was released in June 1991 as the first single from Tanya Tucker's album What Do I Do with Me. The song reached number 2 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart in September 1991, behind Brooks & Dunn's "Brand New Man". This song has earned the 11th spot as one of the most polarizing in the ranking, primarily because a trio of participants ranked it in their bottom 20, with nathanalbright even ranking it in his bottom 5. However, the majority of the group had a different perspective, with most placing it within or near their top 30. Notably, .indulgecountry gave it a top 3 spot, and someguy ranked it in his top 5.

"In a Different Light" was released in February 1991 as the fourth and final single from Doug Stone's self-titled debut album. It reached the pinnacle of the country charts, marking his first number one hit and also securing the fifth spot among the most-played songs of the year. Even though this track received only a single top 10 ranking from sabre14, it still managed to collect twelve top 40 rankings, in addition to a couple of top 50 placements. Interestingly, there were just two participants who didn't rank this song near their top half, with nathanalbright being one of them, ranking it within their bottom 10. This song did experience a minor setback in the final stretch when it received a second bottom 20 ranking from taylor is terrified. However, LBTrocks' final top 30 ranking helped bring it back into contention.

"Ghost in This House" was released in September 1990 as the second single from Shenandoah's third studio album, Extra Mile, and reached number 5 on the country charts becoming their sixth top 5 hit. This song only received one top 5 ranking, with sabre14 placing it as his runner-up for first place. Nevertheless, it maintained a consistent presence as a top 35 contender for most of its run, with thirteen participants ranking it within their top half. Among them, ten had it placed within their top 40. Despite this support, there were a few who included it in their bottom 30, with nathanalbright giving it a sole bottom 10 ranking. It only managed to break into the top 30 just as the rankdown was nearing its conclusion.

Listening to Shenandoah's "Ghost in This House," it's hard not to draw comparisons to Alison Krauss's haunting rendition. This is undeniably one of my all-time favorite covers, as Alison not only did justice to the song but may even have the edge in some aspects. However, the original version by Shenandoah remains a fan favorite that has stood the test of time. Both interpretations really do bring something unique to the song!

Kind of surprised Aaron Tippin is still here but I don't really know anyone's thoughts one way or the other on him. Also glad The Walk is still here after early guesses that it would be out early.

both "Here's a Quarter (Call Someone Who Cares)" and "Down Home" need to leave.
other songs that should be among the next to go include: "You Know Me Better Than That" "Someday" "Brother Jukebox" "The Walk" and "The Chill Of An Early Fall".
All great songs but the others are greater.
also "We Both Walk" and "Down To My Last Teardrop" leaving already is just wrong.

“Feed Jake” is so atrocious, only reason I can think of with all the high ranks is people like the lyrics cuz to me, the song is hot garbage musically.
Sad to see a George song out now. If I’m not mistaken, it may be my first top 10 loss? I don’t know lol

Sorry that this is my first comment, but every single time I’ve tried to look at it the website has been down. Finally, a George Strait song is gone. No reason for so many of them to be in the top 30.

I figured "Feed Jake" was on borrowed time; top 30 is a great place for it to leave at, though.
Fun fact: My mom was inspired to name one of our first dogs Jake based on this song. He was a golden retriever that had a super-friendly demeanor and gave us plenty of company throughout most of the 90s before I started school and even into the mid 2000s about halfway through high school (sadly, he passed away from stomach cancer in 2005; I even remember the vet we took him to even though it's been closed up for years now).
Dogs are awesome. I still miss my beagle pup over three years later; I wouldn't wish what he went through the last several months of his life on anybody (and I do mean anybody).

"The Walk” was released in June 1991 as the third and final single Sawyer Brown's seventh studio album, Buick, and peaked at number 2 becoming their sixth top 5 country hit. Despite a modest start with George Strait Junkie, residing initially in the bottom 30, this track rapidly ascended into the top 20, courtesy of early top 10 placements by both kw9461 and bigd79. However, its upward momentum came to an abrupt halt during the rankdown when bboat11 placed it dead last on his list. This pushed it to the back of the top 30, from which it struggled to shake off. A second-place ranking by gardyfan provided just enough support to keep it in contention for a spot in the top 25.
