"Heroes" was released in February 1991 as the second single and title track from Paul Overstreet's third studio album, Heroes, and went on to become his sixth solo top 5 country hit. Although it initially slipped back into the bottom 20, this song managed to maintain a comfortable position within the top 60 for the majority of its run and even briefly flirted with the top half. Regrettably, both CoJoFan and sabre14 bid farewell to a top 20, while three other participants removed it from their bottom 20. As mentioned earlier, it's worth noting that this is only the second song in the ranking not to receive any bottom 10 rankings.

Stats for #66:
Next to leave is a song by an artist I had the privilege of hosting a rankdown for shortly after their passing a couple of years ago. This departure results in seven participants losing a top half, with one of them being a top 20. Once again, it's worth noting that we don't have any bottom 10 rankings for this particular song, which has been quite a rarity.

"Shadow of a Doubt" was released in May 1991 as the first single from Earl Thomas Conley's eighth studio album, Yours Truly, and went on to become his final top 10 solo country hit. I had the pleasure of conducting an icon rankdown for Earl Thomas Conley a couple of years ago, and I'm sure some of you who participated may have recognized this song from that event. It's possible that this familiarity played a role this time around, as it received eight rankings from within the top half, and no one ranked it in their bottom 10. Unfortunately, 🌺CountryLineDancer experiences a top 20 loss, followed by sabre14 losing a song they had in their top 30.

I'm too far behind to comment on every song, but: I always preferred Exile to Alabama. I always preferred the Bellamy Brothers to the Judds. Lionel Cartwright is from West Virginia, so he gained a few spots on my list for that. Some of these are lesser songs by great artists and it hurts to see them gone (even the ones I ranked low).

"Is It Raining At Your House" is a great song. Had it comfortably in my top 40 on the original version of this list. I doubt it would have fared too well here though. Vern Gosdin felt a tad old fashioned at the time, let alone 30 years later.

I was warmed up to “Shadow Of A Doubt” through his artist RD, so disappointed to see it leaving already. I definitely prefer this song over Brotherly Love.

I realize it's a little late, but as I promised, I'm here after the Taylor Swift Eras Tour theatrical show to reveal the next set of songs. Let's keep the momentum going so we can reach the top half before the weekend! With that said, the next two songs to exit will both be from the same artist

"Heroes and Friends" was released in January 1991 as the second and final single from Randy Travis's album of duets, Heroes & Friends, and his only song on the album that was not a duet. The song would go on to peak at number 3 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart. It's journey started with highest point it would achieve in the rankdown, only to swiftly plummet to its lowest point from the very beginning. Throughout the first half and even well into the second, it consistently held a spot in the top half. However, in the last quarter, things took a different turn as LBTrocks joined someguy and castleoblivion26 with a late bottom 10. Despite this, it found strong support within the top half, with eight participants placing it there. Notably, gardyfan gave it a top 10 ranking along with kw9461 who placed it in their runners-up position, making them only the second participant to lose theirs.

"Forever Together" was released in September 1991 as the second single from Randy Travis's album High Lonesome and is one of our next #1 hits of the year to exit. It was co-written by Travis with Alan Jackson while they were on tour together. Unfortunately, Randy Travis is facing back-to-back losses, with all three of his songs now having exited the competition. Although this track wasn't as formidable a contender as "Heroes and Friends," it still secured eight top half rankings, including a top 25 from gardyfan and a top 15 from .indulgecountry.

"Like We Never Had a Broken Heart" was released in September 1991 as the second single from Trisha Yearwood's self-titled debut album and reached number 4 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart. This song not only showcases Garth Brooks on background vocals but he's also a co-writer. Although this song started as an early top half contender for the first quarter of its run, it eventually slipped into the bottom 30 as I delivered its first of three bottom 10 rankings, followed by a bottom 20 from sabre14. Despite earning top half placements from eight participants, it struggled to overcome the lower-tiered rankings. In total, five participants ranked it in their top 30, with taylor is terrified even placing it in their top 10. While I do have a liking for this song, it certainly ranks near the bottom of my list when it comes to Trisha's discography. It can be a bit of a chore to listen to all the way through without feeling the urge to hit the skip button. Due to this, it remained a consistent bottom 10 contender in each of my numerous edits.

"Loving Blind" was released in January 1991 as the second single from Clint Black's sophomore album, Put Yourself in My Shoes, and it went on to became his fifth single to reach number one on both the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks. Despite having four songs in the rankdown, including two #1 hits, none of them were able to secure a spot in the top half. This song received ten rankings from the top half, including a pair of top 30 placements from myself and gardyfan, as well as a top 5 ranking from Cody Wants Out.... Despite this, it couldn't quite overcome the eight others who placed it in their bottom 30, including a single bottom 10 ranking from CoJoFan. In my opinion, it goes without saying that Clint Black is undoubtedly an underrated and underappreciated artist within the Pulse country group. Clint is, without a doubt, one of my go-to artists from the '90s country era, and I still frequently revisit his early albums.

"If You Want Me To" was released in December 1990 as the second single from Joe Diffie's debut album, A Thousand Winding Roads, and reached the Top 5 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart. Despite a brief dip into the bottom 20 during the first quarter, this song managed to rebound before briefly entering the top half. However, it later settled back outside of the top half. A trio of participants lose a top 30 while both nuggie99 and LBTrocks lose one of their top 20s. While I do like the song just fine, I don't consider it one of my go-to choices from Joe's discography, nor do I feel compelled to revisit it. Consequently, with each subsequent edit, it gradually fell further back on my list until it ended up in the back of my bottom 20.

The quality swing between "Forever Together" (excellent) and "Heroes and Friends" (not good) is so wild for them to be going out back-to-back like this. Plus "Point of Light" having already departed awhile back despite being just as good as "Forever Together." Ugh. Y'all didn't deserve Randy. 🚮
Also lol @ "Like We Never Had a Broken Heart" going out before ANY of the Garth songs. Wtf. Not one of Trisha's best or most memorable singles, but the fact it has her voice on it alone makes it better than anything her hack husband has ever done. This is getting ridiculous. At the very least "Rodeo" should've been loooooong gone.

Vern Gosdin felt a tad old fashioned at the time, let alone 30 years later. This song was certainly considered for inclusion, but I aimed to limit the playlist to 100 songs. Ultimately, I had to make some difficult choices about which songs to exclude. Regrettably, this just happened to be one of those. I always preferred Exile to Alabama.
