At this rate I have anything go throw Morgan down, but it’s just crazy when you go and look numbers and realize that BTS success from circa Mid 2020 has been pure chart manipulation.

Makeba by French singer-songwriter Jain debuts at #1 this week. The song went Top 10 on the French charts in 2015, but never really saw any international success. The TikToks using it are mostly just people dancing (it is very danceable!)
Get Off The Wall by Philadelphia-based rap group Philly Goats debuts at #2 this week. The group's style is described as Jersey Club / Dance Rap. Seems like mainstream rap badly needs some young energy and innovation right now, and maybe this is what it will look like.
Cupid by Fifty Fifty re-enters at #3 this week, its 3rd time back on the chart. The song is now slowly declining on US Spotify, down 6% over last week and sitting at #21 today.

Tracy Chapmans Fast Car is one of the greatest songs ever written IMO so I’d be psyched if Luke’s version went to #1.

I just hate how Billboard didn’t do anything because it was at the height of racial tensions and just allowed them to constantly steal the No. 1 spot along with Columbia Records aiding them. Just check other Billboard related genre charts (with the expection Digital Sales chart obviously) especially for the 10-week ruler “Butter” and it just says It all.

Luckily they changed the rules, so I hope when BTS comeback in 2025/26, its based on real impact and not with fans backing them up. Still, I'll never forgive with armies did to Mark Grondin(Spectrum Pulse) when he pointed the chart manipulation.

all these discussions about songs charting right now dethroning Last Night feels so futile bc every time I see a chart prediction it feels like

1. Last Night by Morgan Wallen - 300 points
2. Fast Car by Luke Combs - 2. just 2 points

I think Billboard has struggled with the BTS manipulation because the rules they have work 99.9% of the time for other artists. There’s only so much they can do unless they remove sales altogether for everyone, which I doubt they would do. They *have* changed the rules multiple times to try to blunt the impact of manipulation, but the stans still figured out how to work around them anyway.

They count both, but Billboard weighs them differently, similarly with any freemium streaming service. I think paid streams hold about 2-3x the weight of a free stream. That's also why Youtube is weighed very low.

^I'm not sure if they have changed it since the change was originally made, but ad-supported ("free") streams counted as 2/3 of a paid stream.
