It really isn't that crazy when you take into consideration their negligible impact on pop culture. If you don't follow charts, you've never heard about these songs. I just hate how Billboard didn’t do anything because it was at the height of racial tensions and just allowed them to constantly steal the No. 1 spot along with Columbia Records aiding them. Just check other Billboard related genre charts (with the expection Digital Sales chart obviously) especially for the 10-week ruler “Butter” and it just says It all. Luckily they changed the rules, so I hope when BTS comeback in 2025/26, its based on real impact and not with fans backing them up. Still, I'll never forgive with armies did to Mark Grondin(Spectrum Pulse) when he pointed the chart manipulation. The big thing about Butter was how it "outperformed" "good 4 u" nowhere but on the Hot 100. g4u was posting record streams while 10k people kept buying the #1 spot lmao.

Radio let Flowers go challenge.
Kinda crazy that Calm Down might reach #1 on overall radio. Selena really needs to put some more effort into her music career again, she could easily dominate.

The way none of the current radio top 5 has any business being #1 at this point, mainly due to age... but on the other hand the way I would take anything than Morgause, including the 4 necrotic-ass songs he's sandwiched between.

Nah radio is a lost cause atp. They know they are dying and instead of diversifying their playlist, they continue to press repeat on certain songs because they think people love to hear Flowers 50 times a day for half a year.

Nah radio is a lost cause atp. They know they are dying and instead of diversifying their playlist, they continue to press repeat on certain songs because they think people love to hear Flowers 50 times a day. I miss the days when pop radio wasn’t spamming songs 6-10 months after they peaked. Hell even “Shape of You” the last airplay hit to peak with 170+ million impressions, wasn’t still being played on repeat by multiple pop stations in like September/November 2017.

How Much Has Tracy Chapman Earned from Luke Combs’ ‘Fast Car’ Cover? Chapman, who is credited as the sole songwriter of "Fast Car," also owns the song's publishing rights.
www.billboard.com/pro/luke-combs-fast-car-cover-tracy-chapman-royalties/ BY GLENN PEOPLESLLuke Combs has driven his “Fast Car” to the top five of the Billboard Hot 100 – and Tracy Chapman is riding shotgun. The surprise success of Combs’ cover has been a minor windfall for Chapman, the sole songwriter of the 1988 hit from her breakthrough debut album. Billboard estimates that Combs’ version has generated about $500,000 in publishing royalties globally from its March 17 debut through June 8. Chapman alone is pocketing a sizable portion of that total. Most of the royalties have come from 154 million U.S. on-demand audio streams from services such as Spotify and Apple Music from March 17 to June 8, according to Luminate. During that period, “Fast Car” also had 6 million video streams and 28 million programmed audio streams in the United States. The track has also been purchased 86,000 times, while the album on which it appears, Combs’ Gettin’ Old, has been purchased 68,000 times in both digital and physical formats. The United States accounts for more than three quarters of the song’s global consumption — a high ratio not atypical for a country artist. What’s more, Combs’ success with “Fast Car” has also given Chapman’s original recording a boost. Weekly consumption — measured by track sales and streaming converted into equivalent track units — increased 44% since Combs’ version was released, while average weekly radio spins improved about 11%. That’s resulted in a boost in U.S. recorded revenues of about $54,000, with $13,000 coming from publishing royalties, Billboard estimates. (Warner Music Group’s Elektra Records, not Chapman, owns the recorded music rights.) Interest in Chapman herself appears to have increased, too: U.S. Google searches for the singer almost tripled from the weeks ended March 18 to June 3, according to Google Trends. “Fast Car,” the first single for Chapman’s eponymous debut album, has been covered by the likes of Sam Smith, Khalid, Black Pumas and English producer Jonas Blue, whose dance version reached No. 2 on The Official U.K. Singles Chart and No. 98 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2016. But in the United States, Combs’ version became the most successful to date by reaching No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 (dated June 17), surpassing Chapman’s original which reached No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1988, and helped her debut album reach triple platinum within a year of its release. Combs’ “Fast Car” peaked at No. 1 on the Country Digital Song Sales chart (dated June 10) and No. 2 on the Country Streaming Songs chart (dated April 29). It also reached No. 6 on the Country Airplay chart (dated June 17) in just its eighth week on the tally and hit No. 2 on the Hot Country Songs chart (dated May 6), which combines radio airplay and streams. North of the U.S. border, “Fast Car” reached No. 2 on the Canadian Digital Song Sales chart (dated May 6), No. 5 on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100 chart (dated May 27) and No. 36 on the Canada All-Format Airplay chart (dated June 10). Tracking the ownership of “Fast Car” is like a brief lesson in the history of major publishing dealmaking of the last four decades. Chapman signed a publishing deal with SBK Entertainment prior to signing with Elektra Records in 1987. SBK was acquired by EMI Music Publishing in 1989. Citi took control of EMI in 2011 after private equity firm Terra Firma defaulted on its debt from a 2007 acquisition. A consortium of investors led by Sony Music Entertainment acquired EMI Music Publishing in 2012. In 2018, Sony Corporation bought out the remaining 60% of EMI Music Publishing. But the rights to “Fast Car” reverted to Chapman a few years ago, according to a Sony Music Publishing spokesperson. As sole owner of the songwriting and publishing rights, Chapman can pocket all royalties generated from “Fast Car” and other songs in her catalog, less any fees paid to a third party for administration services. “Fast Car” is a rarity in an age of sampling, interpolations and Taylor Swift’s re-recordings. Outside of holiday music, cover songs rarely appear in the top 10 of the Hot 100 singles chart. In fact, the last time a cover entered the top 10 of the Hot 100 was Anna Kendrick’s version of “Cups,” a folk song written in 1931 and recorded by Hendricks for the movie Pitch Perfect that reached No. 6 in 2013. Prior to “Cups,” two cover versions from the TV show Glee appeared in the top 10: “Don’t Stop Believin’” (originally by Journey) in 2009 and “Teenage Dream” (originally by Katy Perry) in 2010. Chapman earns some royalties when “Fast Car” is sampled or used in an interpolation – Chris Brown‘s 2017 song “Runaway,” for example — but she keeps 100% of the songwriting and publishing royalties of cover songs.

Cruel summer in the top 40 pre single treatment? IKTR!!!
When was the last time we had a country top 2? Has to be AWHILE. Even wilder is the point totals, sub 200 across the board minus the number one has to be near historic lows

Even wilder is the point totals, sub 200 across the board minus the number one has to be near historic lows What also shocks me is that the percentage change column shows that only 2 of the top 24 are increasing, and 22/24 are decreasing. That can't be normal surely? That's good for Cruel Summer at least, it will have an easier time climbing over those declining songs lol.

It would be amazing if Luke released a duet version of "Fast Car" with Tracy Chapman (new vocals, not spliced from the original) and she got a 3rd top ten hit. Maybe even a number one?
Honestly I think their voices would mix well. They both bring a different energy and passion that could sound really cool together.

Does Last Night already peaked on radio? It's peaking at Country radio, but it's still increasing a bit at Pop (ie. +48 spins and +.293 audience) and Hot AC . Although it's not clear if it'll continue increasing much on Pop or not. It's currently #8 and 6 of the 7 songs above it are technically on their way down. So there's a possibility that benefits Last Night a bit.

Morgan Wallen Has the Two Longest-Leading Country Airplay No. 1s of the 2020s "Last Night" leads for a seventh week, after "You Proof" dominated for 10 frames. BY JIM ASKER www.billboard.com/pro/morgan-wallen-two-longest-leading-country-airplay-no-1s-2020s/MMorgan Wallen’s “Last Night” tops Billboard’s Country Airplay chart (dated June 24) for a seventh consecutive, and total, week – as he now boasts the two longest-leading No. 1s on the chart this decade. His single “You Proof” ruled for a record 10 weeks beginning last October. In the tracking week ending June 15, “Last Night” earned 33 million audience impressions (down 2%) on Country Airplay chart reporters, according to Luminate. The song (on Mercury/Republic/Big Loud), which John Byron, Ashley Gorley, Jacob Kasher Hindlin and Ryan Vojtesak co-wrote, became Wallen’s ninth Country Airplay leader (on the May 13 chart). “Last Night” ties for the fourth-longest Country Airplay command. Here’s a look at the longest-leading No. 1s since the survey began in January 1990. Weeks at No. 1, Title, Artist(s), Date Reached No. 1: 10, “You Proof,” Morgan Wallen, Oct. 15, 2022 8, “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere,” Alan Jackson & Jimmy Buffett, Aug. 9, 2003 8, “Amazed,” Lonestar, July 17, 1999 7, “Last Night,” Morgan Wallen, May 13, 2023 7, “Beautiful Crazy,” Luke Combs, March 2, 2019 7, “Live Like You Were Dying,” Tim McGraw, July 17, 2004 7, “There Goes My Life,” Kenny Chesney, Dec. 20, 2003 7, “Have You Forgotten?,” Darryl Worley, April 5, 2003 7, “The Good Stuff,” Kenny Chesney, July 27, 2002 Notably, Wallen and Chesney are the only acts with two Country Airplay No. 1s to reign for at least seven weeks each. Meanwhile, “Last Night” has crossed over to pop and adult radio, marking Wallen’s first top 10 on both Adult Pop Airplay and Pop Airplay, as it rises to Nos. 8 and 9 on the June 24-dated tallies, respectively. The song has also crowned the all-genre, multi-metric Billboard Hot 100 for 10 weeks running. New Top 10sJelly Roll banks his second Country Airplay top 10 as “Need a Favor” pushes 12-9 (17.5 million, up 13%). The song is the lead single from the his inaugural country album, Whitsitt Chapel, which arrived at No. 2 on the June 17 Top Country Albums with 90,000 units – the largest week for an initial entry since the chart transitioned to a consumption-based methodology (from one based on pure sales) in February 2017. “Favor” follows “Son of a Sinner,” which became Jelly Roll’s first Country Airplay No. 1, in his first appearance on the chart, in January. Concurrently, he has another song on the latest list, as “Save Me,” with Lainey Wilson, climbs 50-48 (1.2 million, up 2%). Plus, Jon Pardi nets his 10th Country Airplay top 10 as “Your Heart or Mine” rises 11-10 (17.3 million, up 7%). It follows “Last Night Lonely,” which became his fifth No. 1 last September.

Does Spotify only count paid streams? If so, they should add streams from people who don’t use subscriptions because the numbers look abysmal now. They count both, but Billboard weighs them differently, similarly with any freemium streaming service. I think paid streams hold about 2-3x the weight of a free stream. That's also why Youtube is weighed very low. Youtube basically has no impact. we learned this from Peaches by Jack Black. (and to a lesser extent, Blackpink)

Although it was a very close race; both songs dropped in streams - Last Night by 0.66% and Ella Baila Sola by 9.67%. There was also a 1,891 difference in streams between the two, meaning it could've gone either way. The biggest story however was the top debut of the week. Seemingly coming out of nowhere of the back his deluxe release and being a bigger debut than either BTS or Drake's newest song, Noah Kahan's Dial Drunk; marking his highest charting song and his biggest debut to date. Breaking into the Top 5 as well is Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 5 despite losing 1.72% in streams. Also reaching a new peak, re-entering the Top 10 at #5 is Fast Car despite only gaining 2.99% Finally cracking the Top 10 are two songs from the Across the Spider-Verse soundtrack: Calling at #8 which rose by 4.05% and Annihilate at #10 which was actually down 1.79% We didn't get much other news beyond Noah Kahan's surprisingly good numbers and the ATSV soundtrack holding up better than I think anyone expected. Notable Gains:
Mona Lisa - 35% august - 19% Next Thing You Know - 15% Self Love - 14% Angel Pt. 1 - 13% Peaches & Eggplants - 12% Sunflower - 11% Week 2 Streams
SZA - SOS: 114,758,353 (-42%)Morgan Wallen - One Thing At A Time: 113,180,650 (-46%)Metro Boomin - HEROES & VILLAINS: 58,675,707 (-43%)Metro Boomin - ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE SOUNDTRACK: 36,136,809 (-22%)

the stability for the ATSV soundtrack is super impressive I'm ngl, even though there isn't an immediate smash like Sunflower I fully expect songs like Annihilate and Calling to stick around

do not understand what is so good about Last Night that it keeps getting streamed so much on Spotify and Apple . with radio continuing to gain it could be #1 several more weeks unless Olivia or something else passes it.

If Olivia / Enchanted TV etc underperform, how many weeks away is Morgan from OTR record?
